Cocaine dealer, who had life sentence commuted by Obama, hit with 3 counts of attempted murder over shooting that left woman brain dead

May 20, 2023 by Paul Sacca Leave a Comment

A Chicago-area man, who previously had his federal life sentence in prison commuted by former President Barack Obama, has been charged with attempted murder.

Alton Mills, of Evergreen Park in Illinois, was arrested in connection to a shooting that happened near the I-57 northbound entrance ramp from 147th Street in Posen, Illinois.

Early Sunday morning, three friends left a nightclub and were driving home in a Ford Explorer. While at a traffic light, the Explorer drove around a vehicle driven by Mills after failing to move when the light turned green, according to Assistant State’s Attorney Kathryn Morrissey.

Mills allegedly caught up to the Explorer down the highway and then fired shots into the SUV.

CWBChicago reported, “A bullet struck a woman sleeping in the Explorer’s back seat in the head, Morrissey said. The Explorer’s front passenger told police that the shooter was an older black man with a salt-and-pepper beard. She also took a blurry picture of the gunman’s license plate and recorded a video in which she read the license plate number out loud.”

The Explorer’s driver reportedly sped to a Chicago Fire Department station, and called the police. The woman who was shot was rushed to the hospital. The Daily Mail reported the woman was brain dead, and not expected to survive.

Illinois State Police reviewed license plate reader data from the area of the shooting, and suspected Mills to be involved in the crime.

Investigators executed search warrants on Mills’ home and vehicle on Monday. They discovered 40-caliber bullets in his bedroom – the same caliber used in the shooting – and his car tested positive for gunshot residue, Morrissey stated.

Morrissey informed Judge Carroll that Mills “made admissions that he did the shooting.” She added that the 54-year-old ex-convict inflicted “great bodily harm and soon death” on the victim.

Mills is charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder. He is being held without bond at the Cook County Jail. He faces his second sentence of life in prison.

In 1994, Mills received a life sentence in prison for trafficking cocaine. The crime was his third felony conviction.

Previously, Democrats lauded Mills as an example of the benefits of criminal justice reform.

In December 2015, Obama commuted Mills’ life sentence, and he was released from prison in early 2016.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) met with Mills in 2016.

“Alton’s story reminds me: It’s not justice when someone who needs help can go away for life for selling crack on the street, but a bank executive who launders hundreds of millions of dollars for drug cartels can pay a fine and sleep in his own bed at night,” Warren wrote in a Facebook post.

In 2018, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) shared Mills’ story on the Senate floor and made him the face of the First Step Act – a prison reform bill to lower recidivism rates.

Ex-Drug Dealer Whose Sentence Was Commuted by Barack Obama Accused in Chicago-Area Shooting

May 20, 2023 by Amy Furr Leave a Comment

An ex-drug dealer whose sentence was commuted by former President Barack Obama (D) is now accused of being involved in an Illinois shooting.

Law enforcement said 54-year-old Alton Mills, who the New York Post noted was granted clemency several years ago, is now facing three attempted murder charges, the outlet reported Friday.

The public is reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The incident happened Sunday when the suspect was inside a car and allegedly fired at another vehicle while driving on an Interstate 57 ramp in the Chicago village of Posen.

Officials said that, during the shooting, a passenger in the victim’s car was hit by gunfire. That individual suffered life-threatening injuries.

Obama commuted Mills’ life sentence in 2016 after the man spent over 20 years behind bars. The Post said, “He was convicted in 1994 on federal charges as part of a crack cocaine conspiracy.”

The outlet continued:

The then-25-year-old Mills had two previous convictions of possession of fewer than five grams of crack cocaine, prompting prosecutors to file a sentence enhancement to lock him in prison without the possibility of parole, according to a previous news release from the Pritzker School of Law at Northwestern University.

…

Obama chose Mills as one of 95 non-violent federal inmates “who were sentenced at the height of the war on drugs and would likely receive substantially lower sentences today” to have their sentences commuted as part of a clemency initiative.

In August 2016, Breitbart News reported Obama was cutting short sentences given to over 200 convicted felons by exercising his constitutional clemency power.

“The White House boasted that this was the largest mass commutation since 1900,” the article stated, adding, “That brings the total number of Obama’s grants of clemency to 562, which is more than the all the presidents since Dwight Eisenhower (nine presidents) combined.”

Before his release, Mills’ case was highlighted by several politicians, including Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), the Post said, noting he advocated for a prison reform bill.

Video footage from 2018 shows Durbin talking about Mills during a speech on the Senate floor:

“He was an above-average high school student. It looked like he might even go on to higher education. But he had some bad luck when it came to employment, jobs, and he made a stupid decision,” Durbin said, saying he became part of a “gang in the neighborhood that was selling drugs.”

In April 2016, Durbin shared an interview with Mills and said, “An overlooked casualty in America’s ‘war on drugs’ are the men and women who have received disproportionately harsh mandatory minimum sentences for low-level, nonviolent drug offenses.”

The suspect is currently being held without bond inside the Cook County Jail, according to Fox 32.

‘I Don’t Care!’ Elon Musk destroys CNBC reporter in live interview

May 19, 2023 by BlazeTV Staff Leave a Comment

Since becoming the CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk has faced a multitude of criticisms from left-wing activists who believe his own tweets, or simply the tweets he allows on Twitter, are problematic.

But he doesn’t care.

This was made extremely clear in a live interview on CNBC. Musk sat down with one of CNBC’s reporters and did not hold back.

“You know, do your tweets hurt the company? Are there Tesla owners who say, ‘I don’t agree with his political position.’?” the reporter asked, saying these hypothetical Tesla owners would know so much about his political position “because he shares so much of it.”

“Or,” the reporter continued, “are there advertisers on Twitter that Linda Ocarina will come and say, ‘You gotta stop man,’ or you know, ‘I can’t get these ads because of some of the things you tweet’?”

Elon at first responded with silence, pausing for what seemed to be an extremely tense moment.

He then broke his long silence by bringing up a scene from the film “The Princess Bride.”

It’s the scene “where [Inigo Montoya] confronts the person who killed his father. He says, ‘Offer me money, offer me power, I don’t care,’” Elon said.

The reporter was a little taken aback, responding, “So, you just don’t care. You want to share what you have to say.”

“I’ll say what I want to say, and if the consequence of that is losing money, so be it,” Elon said firmly.

Dave Rubin comments on the interview, impressed by Elon’s unwavering position on the matter.

“If he was woke, if he was a woke leftist like most of the CEOs are or at least pretend to be, he would never be getting asked this question, right?” Rubin asks.

“So, if he was for chopping kids’ genitals off, if he was for teaching neo-racism in schools,” he continues, “that wouldn’t be thought of as controversial and there would be no need for a CNBC host to ask him those things.”

Rubin believes Musk is “widening the lane that we can speak of things in, and that is pretty good.”
