Eagle Pass Mayor: We’re ‘Abandoned’ by Biden Admin. on Border, Abbott Has ‘Been Helpful’

On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “OutFront,” Eagle Pass, TX Mayor Rolando Salinas stated that while federal agencies like the Border Patrol are controlling the situation along the border the best that they can, “I haven’t heard from anybody in the administration” and the city is “abandoned.” Salinas also said in another interview that state officials, including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) “have been helpful to Eagle Pass by sending in additional help.”

Salinas said, “Fortunately, we have the help of our state partners, DPS, the governor, our federal agencies, Border Patrol. They’re helping, and they’re controlling the situation as best as they can.”

He added, “It’s a shame that we don’t have immigration reform and a solution to prevent situations like this. I don’t know why things have come to this.”

Salinas further stated, “I haven’t heard from anybody in the administration. The President hasn’t put out a statement, the vice president, I haven’t heard from anybody. Nobody has bothered to call me, anyone in the city staff saying, hey, this is the federal government, we know what you’re going through, we’re worried about you, this is our plan of action, nothing. We’re here abandoned. We’re on the border. We’re asking for help. This is unacceptable.”

Earlier, on the Fox News Channel’s “Your World,” Salinas said, “I’ve reached out to our representatives. I’ve been in touch with our Congressman, Tony Gonzales (R-TX), he’s done very good things for Eagle Pass. I’ve been in touch with the state, with DPS, the governor’s office, they have been helpful to Eagle Pass by sending in additional help.”

Eagle Pass Mayor: ‘Thousands’ Crossing Border ‘Without any Consequence’ — ‘Just Enforce the Laws’

On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “OutFront,” Eagle Pass, TX Mayor Rolando Salinas stated that you have “thousands of people just walking in without any consequence whatsoever. So, the word is getting out. It’s kind of a come one, come all type of approach” and stated President Joe Biden does bear part of the responsibility for the crisis in the city. Salinas also pleaded, “just enforce the laws that are on the books.”

Salinas said, “First of all, this is definitely a very serious situation for the City of Eagle Pass. We’re a city of about 28 to 30,000 people. And in the last couple of days, we’ve had in excess of 5,000 people cross from Piedras Negras, Mexico into Eagle Pass, TX. It’s become a big concern for the community. A lot of people are frustrated. A lot of these people are being let loose in the community, walking around. And it’s just a big concern for the City of Eagle Pass, not only safety-wise, but also our local economy is taking a hit because, because of this crisis, we’ve had to shut down bridge number one, our international bridge, which so many millions of dollars flow through this bridge. We depend on the tolls of the people that pay those bridge tolls. And it’s just an emergency situation. That is why, as Mayor for the City of Eagle Pass, I decided to declare a state of emergency for our city, because we’ve never seen this before. This is not normal. And we shouldn’t have to be going through a situation like this in the United States or here in Eagle Pass, Texas.”

He added that “you have all these thousands of people just walking in without any consequence whatsoever. So, the word is getting out. It’s kind of a come one, come all type of approach and you have all these people coming. There is no consequence. And I just want to say that I think that this is unacceptable. It’s a shame that we don’t have immigration reform and a solution to prevent situations like this. I don’t know why things have come to this.”

Host Erin Burnett then asked, “When you say that there are no consequences and that is causing more of this, does the President bear some of the responsibility for the crisis in your city?”

Salinas answered, “I’ll be honest with you, I believe 100% he does bear some responsibility for this crisis.”

He added, “Please, just enforce the laws that are on the books. We’re a nation of laws. That’s all I ask for is that it shouldn’t be like this. We should be able to enforce laws. If you want to come here, good, come legally. A lot of people have in the past. It takes a lot of money and years to do it the right way. And it’s not fair for those people that now you have thousands of people coming in without one single consequence. It’s just not fair.”

Did Soros ‘Republicans’ make it ILLEGAL for Texas AG Ken Paxton to prosecute voter fraud?!

Ken Paxton was acquitted by the Texas Senate on Saturday on 16 articles of impeachment, and some are not so happy about it.

A recent Wall Street Journal opinion piece written by the outlet’s entire editorial board states, “Mr. Paxton’s defenders are spinning that he was saved by a populist national conservative groundswell to put an end to the ‘Bush era’ in Texas. What a joke.”

“The acquittal,” the piece continues, “may not play out so well for Texas Republicans in the longer run. A federal investigation into Mr. Paxton is continuing amid reports that a grand jury has been impaneled.”

“I’ve been investigated ever since the day I walked into this office,” Paxton tells Glenn Beck. “I have no doubt that the Biden administration would love to find some way — they’ve been working on it for years to get rid of me, and part of that process was the impeachment.”

In a recent interview with Tucker Carlson, Paxton also mentioned that the Texas Courts of Appeals recently made it illegal for him to prosecute voter fraud.

“Is that true?” Glenn asks Paxton.

“Yes, that is correct. They struck down a law from 1951,” Paxton tells Glenn. “In 1951, the legislature directed the attorney general — it’s the only thing I have original jurisdiction on as it relates to criminal matters.”

Paxton is convinced those who struck down this law are “not Republicans.”

“They struck down this law, and it said that I don’t have the authority to go to court as attorney general because I’m in the executive branch. That was their rationale for striking down things. [It’s] unconstitutional for the attorney general to be in court,” he continues.

“That is the most insane decision ever, but they did it. And now it’s up to the local DAs to prosecute,” Paxton adds.

Paxton believes this decision opens up Texas to voter fraud.

“The people of Texas need to know that.”

Gov. Greg Abbott indicated Wednesday that Texas will shore up border defenses at the beleaguered city of Eagle Pass amidst an unprecedented surge of illegal aliens who appear to be largely single males. The Republican governor further stressed that the Democratic president’s policies were responsible for the “invasion” under way.

The Biden administration, which has failed to stop over
5.8 million illegal aliens from stealing into the U.S. since January 2021, has not only worked ardently to prevent the Lone Star State from securing its border with Mexico but has also considered the possibility of corralling the invading hordes inside Texas.

Nowhere has this frustrative effort been more brazen than at Eagle Pass, where the Democratic administration
successfully ensured the dismantling of Texas’ floating border barrier along the Rio Grande.

Abbott posted a video to X Wednesday of what appear to be federal agents with wire cutters, noting, “Texas installed razor wire in Eagle Pass to stop illegal crossing. Today the Biden Admin CUT that wire, opening the floodgates to illegal immigrants. I immediately deployed more Texas National Guard to repel illegal crossings & install more razor wire.”

Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas Jr. told the New York Times that migrants, not federal officials, apparently cut three sections of the concertina wire.

“Once they cut it, it kind of opened the floodgates,” said Salinas.

The White House did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Despite swift corrective action by the Texas National Guard, the damage has appears to have been done.

Salinas issued and signed an emergency declaration Wednesday due to the surge of illegal aliens into the area,
noting, “The emergency declaration grants us the ability to request financial resources to provide the additional services caused by the influx of the undocumented immigrants.”

Within a few hours, over 4,000 people crossed the Rio Grande — where Texas had briefly had an effective maritime barrier — and into Eagle Pass, a city with around 29,000 residents. Thousands more are expected to steal across the border on Thursday.

Salinas indicated the latest mob, largely from Venezuela, has overrun Mission Border Hope, the only migrant shelter in Eagle Pass,
reported the New York Post.

The city
indicated that per the order of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Eagle Pass Bridge 1 had been shut down until further notice owing to the “significant influx of migrants in the region.”

Footage from Eagle Pass shows an interminable line largely comprising military-age males marching under Eagle Pass bridge.

“One of the situations is that a lot of these [migrants], they’re single males and they don’t want to listen to instructions and they’re leaving the facility,” said Salinas. “Not all of these people come in peace.”

WOAI-TV
reported that sources with Panama Immigration indicated last week that between 4,000 and 6,000 migrants were marching on the U.S. from Colombia through the Darien Jungle.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber told WOAI, “It’s gonna happen again. It’s been happening over and over and over for the last two years, and I don’t see that ending right now.”

An end to the “invasion” might require an end to corresponding incentives; however, the Biden administration went the other way this week, indicating late Wednesday that
500,000 illegal aliens from Venezuela will be allowed to stay in the country and work legally, depressing citizen wages, competing for American jobs, and flouting American immigration law.

In response to the latest surge, Abbott
reshared his November 2022 “invasion” declaration, in which he wrote, “The federal government’s failure [to protect the states against invasion] has forced me to invoke Article 1, § 10, Clause 3 of the U.S. Constitution, thereby enabling the State of Texas to protect its own territory against invasion by the Mexican drug cartels.”

In his declaration, Abbott underscored that Biden’s “inaction has led to catastrophic consequences” and that under his watch, “America is suffering the highest volume of illegal immigration in the history of our country.”

The Republican governor similarly reiterated Wednesday, “We are building a border wall, razor wire & marine barriers. We are also repelling migrants.”

El Paso Shelter Official: Surge in Migrants Is ‘a Warning’ — We Had a Shelter at 140% Capacity

During portions of an interview with CNN aired on Tuesday, El Paso, TX Opportunity Center for the Homeless Deputy Director John Martin stated that there is an increase in the number of migrants coming into El Paso, which “should be heeded as a warning.” And one facility that shouldn’t have more than 120 people in it was up to 170 people.

CNN Senior National Correspondent Ed Lavandera said, “There’s a growing number of migrants crossing into the United States, raising concerns this could be the early stages of a renewed surge of illegal immigration. In recent days, a crush of people flooded into Mexico’s southern border and continued north. Large migrant groups have been spotted on trains heading to the U.S. southern border. In El Paso, city officials say they’ve helped more than 4,000 migrants in the last week.”

He then played a clip of Martin stating, “Just a few days ago, we were up at 170 here at this location for a facility that comfortably should be no more than 120.”

Lavandera then said, “Daily encounters in El Paso are about 1,200 per day. Most migrant shelters are full, some migrants are sleeping outside, but the city is using hotels like this one to handle the overflow.”

Lavandera added, “The crisis is not limited to El Paso.” And discussed “a surge in San Diego” that “has volunteers dealing with thousands of migrants.”

Lavandera further stated, “A Homeland Security official tells CNN 8,000 migrants, including families, were apprehended Monday on the U.S. southern border. That number higher than the 3,500 per day average in May right after Title 42 COVID restrictions ended. But in El Paso, this migrant surge doesn’t rival those during Title 42, at least not yet.”

Lavandera then played a clip of Martin stating, “The only thing that I can…say, we’re starting to see a larger number of peoples, and I think it should be heeded as a warning.”
