Exclusive — Rep. Tom Emmer: Republican Conference ‘Growing’ More United with Each Victory

March 25, 2023 by Sean Moran Leave a Comment

House Republican Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) told Breitbart News Saturday that with each victory, the House GOP Conference becomes more united.

Emmer spoke to Breitbart News Saturday host and Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle as the House passed the Parents Bill of Rights Act, a bill that is designed to give parents more control over their children’s education. This was a marquee bill Republicans proposed as part of their Commitment to America agenda, the legislative agenda that now-Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) unveiled with Republicans across the spectrum ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

Despite having a narrow majority in the House, Boyle noted that Republicans have been able to pass dozens of substantial bills. Indeed, it appears that the House has already passed 87 bills and resolutions through Congress’s lower chamber.

Emmer said that the speaker’s race was the beginning of the House Republican Conference “learning how to be a team.”

“You don’t win the Superbowl on the first day of practice,” Emmer said. “You got to get better and better. And what you see is, with Kevin McCarthy’s leadership, and with the team growing with one of these votes … we had an open rule for the first time in years.”

The Minnesota Republican cheered that the House has an open rule process by which any lawmaker can propose an amendment on the House floor, a process by which prior speakers, such as Nancy Pelosi, John Boehner, and Paul Ryan, have not allowed.

“You’re seeing that House Republicans are actually governing. This is something that you have not seen in four years,” Emmer remarked.

“Every vote is another practice. We get on the field and we move the thing forward and is well for the future,” he added.

Exclusive — Mark Meckler: Polling Shows Indictment Would Benefit Donald Trump

March 25, 2023 by Wendell Husebo Leave a Comment

Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States, told Breitbart News Saturday that recent polling shows the potential indictment of former President Donald Trump would benefit him.

According to a poll conducted by Convention of States Action in conjunction with the Trafalgar Group and obtained by Breitbart News exclusively on Friday, 74 percent of Americans say an indictment of Trump either helps him or will have no effect on his presidential campaign.

That number is broken down by 37.5 percent who said it will not affect Trump and 36.8 percent who said it will help him. Just 25.7 percent of voters polled believe it will hurt Trump’s presidential campaign.

“So what it’s showing is that the American people really, generally speaking, aren’t interested in this [indictment], at worst for Democrats it’s gonna give him a boost. I think we’re already seeing that it gives him the boost,” Meckler said in his assessment.

Meckler said unaffiliated voters are also not impressed with the potential indictment.

“I think most interesting is where people with unaffiliated folks fall. And the reason I think that’s important is those are the swing voters, and so you have a full third of that 33 percent say it helps the campaign. Thirty-nine percent say it doesn’t matter either way,” he said. “So what they’re doing is they’re swinging independence towards Trump with this potential indictment.”

Meckler said generally that the indictment would benefit Trump among GOP voters because of the real or perceived injustices “piled” up against the former president over the years:

They just see this continuing injustice piled upon attack piled on attack against Trump. It makes Trump just a more sympathetic figure to the Republican base. As Republicans, we know that we’re under assault. Conservatives know they’re under assault. So when President Trump gets attacked like this, we feel it personally. Trump said at one point, ‘they’re not attacking me because they hate me, they attack because they hate you,’ and that’s what we see when we see this kind of assault, and so I do think it really strongly rallies the base around Donald Trump.

However, Meckler warned that Trump’s possibly unwarranted attacks on potential opponent Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) might not be helping Trump politically among Republican voters.

“I travel all over the country. I can tell you there are a lot of people who have been a little bit frustrated with Trump and just how he’s behaved towards DeSantis, but this [indictment] has rallied them around Trump, even the people that are frustrated with Trump,” he said.

Meckler also suggested that DeSantis might also have made a mistake by returning attacks against Trump. He said the polls support his analysis.

“I thought it showed weakness for him to take a swipe at Donald Trump here,” Meckler estimated. “What’s been serving DeSantis has kinda been just ignoring the attacks from Trump, and I think you could have showed real leadership by just aggressively attacking the prosecution, not going after Donald Trump at all. I understand on a personal level why it’s probably frustrating to him, but I don’t think it was a good political move, and the polls show that’s definitely not a good political move.”

Exclusive: Mike Pence Says Looming Trump Arrest ‘Reeks of the Kind of Political Prosecution that We Endured Back in the Days of the Russia Hoax’

March 18, 2023 by Hannah Bleau Leave a Comment

Pence reacted to the rumor, based on what Trump described as “illegal leaks,” that the former president will be arrested as part of Democrat, Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case related to porn star Stormy Daniels.

“Like many Americans, I’m just, I’m taken aback. You have a major crime wave in New York, especially in New York City. You have literally a Democratic Party that’s literally dismantled the criminal justice system in that city, undercut the NYPD, and this is what the Manhattan DA says is their top priority,” Pence said, lambasting the district attorney’s office for focusing on non-issues as crime runs amok.

“It reeks of the kind of political prosecution that that we endured back in the days of the Russia hoax and the whole impeachment over a phone call. And one thing I know is —  I know that former President Trump can take care of himself,” Pence said, emphasizing that these witch hunts are “not what people are focused on.”

“I mean, the reality is the American people are hurting. Just this last week, we saw a couple of bank failures that are driven by liberal policies, on the West Coast and on the East Coast, you have inflation that’s at a 40-year high. Wages are stagnant. I mean, the American people are struggling, let alone and we’re facing new challenges around the world,” he said, emphasizing that he will continue to focus on the challenges the American people care about.

“I have the same reaction everybody else does to this to these reports,” he said of the news, emphasizing that he, like many Americans, is angered by the two-tier justice system as the Biden family continues to get away with shady deals and millions wired to various family members from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Pence said there seems to be “one standard for Republicans — particularly anybody ever associated with the Trump-Pence administration —  and others.”

LISTEN:

“But the fact that the media has almost no interest whatsoever in the in the truth about Hunter Biden’s ties and the investments being made into the Biden family and the connections in China and elsewhere. The American people see through it and I think —  look, no one is above the law, but I am deeply concerned about the politicization that we’ve seen in the Justice Department. And frankly, the criminalization of politics in America, it’s doing absolutely nothing to help relieve the struggles that the American people are facing every single day,” Pence continued, highlighting the fact that Americans are concerned about real issues, including the crisis at the southern border and crime wave in major cities.

“Call them out on the politicization but also stay focused on the real issues facing the American people so … we can reelect the Republican Congress, win the Senate and win back the White House and win back America,” he added.
