The Reaction to Donald Trump's Endorsement for Governor in Michigan Is Truly Confusing

July 30, 2022 by Duke Leave a Comment

Oh, Michigan my Michigan, how you genuinely do sometimes confuse me. Of course not, as bad as the poor souls that live in California or New York, I’m sure; but the year is not yet over, and we could still reach that massive low.

I live here in the Great Lakes State and, as I have covered here over the past week, we have some excitement here with the primary election next Tuesday to pick the GOP contender against the Queen of Lockdowns, Gretchen Whitmer.

I have written about some of the nonsense with this article here. Is Michigan GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Kevin Rinke a Secret Fan of Gov Whitmer? and BREAKING: Former Pres. Donald Trump Endorses Tudor Dixon for Michigan Governor. Also, if you get a chance, check out my colleague Cameron Arcand’s interview with Tudor Dixon right HERE.

Since the Trump announcement of the Tudor Dixon endorsement, some of the Facebook pages of both groups and friends that I have just lit up with some really interesting conspiracy theories. It truly has been hard to keep up with, but I have the tools to do it. Also, it is much easier to do when a lot of these theories are written by people that just finished watching an episode of “Sesame Street” and feel enlightened.

I’m sorry if that (possibly) hurt some people’s feelings, but actually, I’m not.

Michigan has an incumbent governor who is done a horrific job and has 30 million dollars in the bank; I personally can’t believe some of the nonsense that people are posting, pretending that they have information that the majority of people don’t have.

Let me start out with my piece from Monday on the drivel coming from an ad from Kevin Rinke. I had this reaction, when the ad called the DeVos family and, by extension Tudor Dixon, America’s betrayers.

Yet the problem I have — and quite frankly anyone who gives a damn about changing Michigan from a blue state to a red state should also have — is that Rinke wants to smear his opponent on faulty reasoning and by dragging a family that has done more for “conservative” causes than he could ever dream of doing.

Rational people can disagree on policy or actions and I do disagree with Betsy DeVos about her decision to resign two weeks before Trump’s term ended in January of 2021 for the reasons she stated.

As the January 6 Commission has brilliantly shown, Trump did nothing to encourage a bunch of Hot Heads to go down to the Capitol and overthrow the United States government. Seriously, that Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger think that the guy who dressed up as one of the Village People was gonna install himself as Speaker of the House or something is amazing and silly. Super cute story but it was never gonna happen no matter how many prime-time hearings they have to try and scare people.

I’m in this odd camp, where you can disagree with someone strongly about a view they hold and not have to say they are doing the Benedict Arnold boogie. I know that might be a bit too rational for some, but I’m too old and wise to change, so you can deal with it.

That reaction I posted above was from people three or four days before Trump actually endorsed Dixon.

Now, though, people are actually saying that Trump, wait for it, endorsed a #NeverTrumper here in Michigan.

This is of course on Facebook, so I can’t see if they actually have a straight face. Yet I can see in my mind’s eye the single-digit typing and the biting of the bottom lip, as they type these accusations furiously. They do this with all the vigor and purpose of someone who cried when there was an assassination attempt against President Josiah Bartlet has in the first season of “The West Wing.”

When I challenged these folks on the basic premise that Donald Trump might not be in the mood to endorse a Never-Trumper, the reactions I received were all over the board.

My friend Dan Tollis on Facebook posted an observation about the meltdown he was witnessing, after Trump made it official about his endorsement. Dan is a loyal Republican and was debating on who to vote for Tuesday; he indicated that the Trump endorsement might sway him. Here is what he wrote…

Watching some folks going apoplectic over tonight’s news. Remember we have got to maintain and if possible increase our majorities in the House and Senate. We also must Ensure that those that we elect are fiscal and social conservatives. The last government the better. Without the House and Senate it doesn’t mean anything we elect as governor.

Some of the responses he received were, shall we say, interesting.

Oh my god are you a fucking idiot She is establishment fucking rhino and its finest what in the hell are you thinking I’m voice texting and I know that rhino is not spelled like that when it comes to politics but then what in the hell R U thinking

Then there was this gem…

Dixon is an actress. She is all show and no go. She is witless the second. Devo’s bought and puppet.

In all fairness to Dan, he pointed out that Ronald Reagan was an actor also, but that did not impress the person who posted that comment. He went so far down the rabbit hole that, somehow, Trump was tricked by a plot to trick the grassroots of the grassroots–and only the people who can say RINO at the drop of a hat know the truth. How Donald Trump was not alerted to these plots is troublesome, if you think Trump has lost his marbles like the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Luckily, not everyone thinks this, and there were people who were just advocating for their choice, rationally and with a great measure of sanity. This person summed it up for me…

Okay friends – I don’t care who you vote for in the primary. But, for the love of the State of Michigan and conservatives everywhere, please support Tudor Dixon or whoever wins the primary in November.

This is the reason I hate primary season – too many rumors, too many negative mailings, too much drama. If we can’t pull together in November, Michigan is sunk – and it will be the fault of the conservatives and/or Republicans who didn’t want to vote for the Republican candidate.

So, PLEASE STOP THIS NONSENSE!

Stop the nonsense, indeed.

We are blessed to live in a time where we have almost all the information ever recorded at our fingertips and yet, we seem to be dumber than at any time in our history. Elections are supposed to be a rough and tumble vetting process, and it is not supposed to be easy or pretty. Yet, when people who claim to love what Donald Trump did for four years as President decide that he does not know as much as them– when their said candidate does not get his thumbs up–and go all Alex Jones with stories, we are obligated to say stop.

Calling people un-American and using Democrat talking points to slander Trump and others is a bit much.

We are way past the time to STOP THIS NONSENSE and remember that whoever wins this Tuesday is going to work to defeat Gretchen Whitmer. That person will need your help, no matter how badly your feelings are hurt.

Hopefully, the grassiest of the grassroots can keep that in mind.

Rumor Has It That Donald Trump Is About to Make a BIG Endorsement in Michigan

July 29, 2022 by Duke Leave a Comment

Oh Michigan GOP, how you entertain me.

Yet the entertaining value of your shortsightedness truly bodes ill for the State come November 2022 with the possible reelection of Big Gretch.

Rubes.

Seems that POTUS 45 could possibly be ready to make an endorsement in the GOP race for Governor here with just four days left before the Michigan primary.

From Detroit News…

Former President Donald Trump said Friday morning that he’s still considering endorsing conservative commentator Tudor Dixon to be Michigan’s next governor, a revelation that comes as Dixon’s opponents attempt to prevent him from intervening.

Four days before Tuesday’s primary election, in which Republican voters will pick a nominee to challenge Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Trump posted on his social media website Truth Social that he’s giving Dixon a “good, hard look.”

“All of her supporters are working hard for endorsement/victory,” Trump wrote. “Stay tuned!”

The message from Trump came a day after nine candidates he’s previously endorsed in Michigan wrote him a letter asking him not to work with his former education secretary and GOP mega-donor Betsy DeVos, who has endorsed Dixon.

The DeVos family has been spending money to influence more than 25 primary races for the state Legislature this summer, including opposing Trump-endorsed candidates in seven of them.

“There is a war going on for the soul of the GOP in Michigan with Trump-endorsed candidates on one side and the establishment DeVos family on the other,” the candidates’ letter obtained by The Detroit News said.

Of course, anytime The Donald makes an endorsement it is big news and a huge benefit to the candidate. However, as I wrote about earlier this week, there are elements in Michigan GOP that claim to be Pro-Trump but are lobbying heavily against Trump endorsing Tudor Dixon. Some in the party think it is anti-American for Trump to do so which is jaw-dropping in its stupidity. In my article titled Is Michigan GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Kevin Rinke a Secret Fan of Gov Whitmer?…

Yet dissing the Devos family and their history of supporting causes that Kevin Rinke and all the other candidates for the GOP nomination say they support, is just plain lunacy. Actually, it sounds like something Whitmer and her Public Relations people would come up with to piss off die-hard Trump supporters and split the base pre-November.

Somehow, magically, in the blink of an eye, a family that has put their money where their mouth is in terms of supporting conservative causes is now the enemy because of Betsy DeVos. Yes, Betsy DeVos was Donald Trump’s Education Secretary and yes she resigned on January 7th in protest of what happened on January 6th. I feel that Trump did nothing wrong that deserved impeachment and that the January 6th witchhunt hearings are more comedy than fact-finding. Yet I can separate one decision I disagree with someone on and take a look at the totality of the work they have done. I’m an adult and can think without the benefit of talking points created by grifters acting as if they give a damn about the causes I care about.

So the DeVos family has supported Tudor Dixon in a number of ways and because of that, she is automatically the enemy in terms of the truuuuuuue conservatives — the people who think that President Trump was the greatest thing since sliced bread politically and his mean tweets on Twitter warmed the soul of America.

Yet now it looks like Trump is going to endorse the very person who is backed by the family who donated to him in 2016 and 2020 but betrayed him by having a different view of an event that the progressive media is trying to turn into the Nuremberg trials. I told you that the folks up here in the mitten state are entertaining sometimes and this is why Democrats win here statewide over and over again.

What I hope it teaches some is that you NEVER go all-in on a talking point without thinking it full through to score some short-term political talking points. Case in point: this tweet from candidate Garret Soldano about the Trump news of an impending endorsement.

Mr. President you have a choice to be with the grassroots who back you 100%, or with the establishment who supports you only when it benefits them.
Let us fight this battle. We’re gonna be behind the nominee, but don’t side with the DeVos family! pic.twitter.com/yALlNu3a1R

— Garrett Soldano For Governor (@GarrettForMI) July 29, 2022

I will vote for Garrett Soldano if he faces Gretchen Whitmer this November. However, he lost my vote for the primary this Tuesday because he decided to once again use a cheap talking point that was poorly crafted by people who claim to love Trump and America but really just love saying they have influence.

I’m done with that nonsense and hopefully, the vast majority of the people of this state I love are also.

If you don’t agree with me or possibly agree with moi that is great, let me know why right HERE at my BIO and tell me why. If you are witty enough, I might even talk about it on one of my shows.

Is Michigan GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Kevin Rinke a Secret Fan of Gov Whitmer?

July 25, 2022 by Duke Leave a Comment

That I have to ask the question above in the headline is another indicator of why Michigan is a blue state and most likely will be for the foreseeable future. However, it is not Kevin Rinke’s fault that Michigan is currently a blue state — though he is most likely helping keep it one at the Governor’s mansion in 2022.

Earlier this year, I commented on my radio show on WAAM Radio in Ann Arbor Michigan, that the Whitmer administration had done the damn near impossible. They made the eight years of the Granholm administration look like amateur hour in terms of how to wreck a state in less than half the time. I promised at that moment I would support the GOP nominee, whoever that would be, against Gretch in November of 2022. I’m one of those pesky independents that both R’s and D’s need to get a win and have zero issues of skipping a line on a ballot if I think all options suck, so this was a big step for me.

Monumental in fact.

The Republican race for the nomination to see who will face Whitmer has actually been pretty docile up until the past couple of weeks. With the exception of two of the candidates going down due to petition signature fraud, everything was pretty low-key.

That quiet, of course, had to come to an end as we wind down this campaign and the Rinke camp decided it was time to go off the rails by calling a family that has supported a plethora of conservative causes over the past couple of decades “America’s betrayers.”

Simply asinine.

Here is the commercial that slimes not just an opponent for the GOP nod against a truly horrible Governor but a family that has done more than their share supporting policies that help better the people who live in this state.

Tudor Dixon is bankrolled by the same folks who tried to illegally remove President Trump from office.

We can’t trust her. pic.twitter.com/q7rondyF9Y

— Kevin Rinke (@KevinRinke) July 20, 2022

She owes them. Tudor Dixon’s campaign is bankrolled by Never Trumpers, Liberal Billionaires, and anti-MAGA turncoat Betsy DeVos. DeVos wanted to remove President Trump from office on January 6th.

(Interviewer) “In your book, you mentioned some of the discussion you had invoking the 25th amendment.”

(Betsy DeVos) “Well, I wanted to understand what the law with the amendment said.”

Dixon is bankrolled by liberals, Never Trumpers, and America’s betrayers. We just can’t trust Tudor Dixon

Liberals, Never Trumpers, and America’s betrayers.

Oh my.

All you need to complete the nonsense in this commercial is for Rinke to come out in ruby red slippers and click them together to hopefully snap back into reality and not the political idiocy of Oz in which this commercial resides.

So being I’m not a newbie at politics, I fully understand that when it comes down to crunch time, candidates who are polling in the one, two, and three positions are going to start getting rough with each other. In fact, the reason why Rinke pulled this stunt is that the latest polling just came out and shows that Dixon has a four-point lead over him. From Deadline Detroit:

With the Aug. 2 primary quickly approaching, a new poll of state Republicans shows GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Nixon with a narrow 4 percentage point lead over Kevin Rinke, the Detroit News reports.

The lead falls within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

The poll, taken July 13-15, is of 500 likely Republican primary voters. It was commissioned by the Detroit News and WDIV, and conducted by Lansing-based Glengariff Group.

It also showed gubernatorial candidates Ryan Kelley and Garrett Soldano trailing behind Rinke. However, 38 percent of the likely GOP voters said they hadn’t made up their minds.

Actually, it sounds like something Whitmer and her Public Relations people would come up with to piss off die-hard Trump supporters and split the base pre-November.

So just to drive the point home here, I could bury this story in links to leftist rags that have verbally lit the DeVoss family on fire for their support of causes that are “right-wing” in nature. From their support of charter schools in the state to helping fund pro-life group Right to Life Michigan and this little nugget about the lockdown protests two years ago.

Why the DeVos family’s backing of the Michigan protests is no surprise.

Having met both Dick and Betsy Devos during his 2006 campaign for Governor and getting to spend a couple of minutes here and there with them, I believe they are not Never Trumpers or Liberal Billionaires as described in that ad. That anyone would smear them as such and say they are Republican is not dealing with people straight but using progressive talking points veiled as reasoned thought.

There are ways to go after your opponents in good faith and not write a script for Team Whitmer to use if Tudor Dixon becomes the nominee here. Garret Soldano, in the last debate held with all five GOP candidates, hit Dixon on where she was during the protests against lockdowns in 2020. She responded and they had an interesting exchange that did not devolve into… YOU’RE BACKED BY PEOPLE WHO I WISH WERE BACKING ME.

Also, the fact that Dixon held a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago at which Trump spoke might be a tip that POTUS 45 does not share the view of Rinke that calling anyone that leads him in the polls a Never Trumper is appropriate. Michigan Candidate for Governor Holds a Fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. Trump also mentioned her at a rally he held here after the Mar-a-Lago event, so maybe Rinke knows something “The Donald” doesn’t know.

Then again, maybe not.

I’m actually interested in slowly turning Michigan red which will take decades to do. Last spring, when I committed myself to support the Michigan GOP and their candidate, I hoped they could produce a solid candidate to take on Governor Gretch and really start that long process.

If this scorched earth policy that Kevin Rinke has engaged in to win a nomination is an indication of how he would govern, I’m gonna have to pass on my earlier pledge. I have seen the more-money-than-brains act down in Texas with Beto O’Rouke and it gives me heartburn much worse than the fine Tex-Mex food in the Lone Star State.

I can guarantee you that Michigan does not need that type of nonsense here.

I hope that the other candidates will step up in the closing days and call out this type of Whitmer future attack ad material by someone who wants to damage an opponent at any cost. Michigan is a blue state that once in a while turms purple and calling everyone a Never Trumper or Liberal Billionaire to score points is so George Soros it makes me ill.

Michigan has been suffering for the past four years with Whitmer Inc. and we need to change. If Kevin Rinke thinks trashing people who have shown they are conservative through action is the right move, that is shameful. If he is the best the Michigan GOP can nominate, I have some bad news.

Prepare for politics as usual in the State of Michigan — and that will not end well.
