Moore to the Point – This Is the Adults in Charge?

January 18, 2023 by Susie Moore Leave a Comment

The opinions expressed by contributors are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of RedState.com.

One of the key criticisms of Donald Trump has been personality (as opposed to policy) – most everyone right of center (and even some not-so-right-of-center) appreciated his policies, but for some, the “mean tweets” were tough to stomach. The insulting nicknames, the punching down – many saw this as childish and counter-productive.

Which was the hook for Joe Biden in 2020. Running the lowest of lowkey campaigns virtually from his basement, good ol’ Joe could play the part of your friendly old harmless uncle and appeal as an antidote to his pugnacious predecessor. (Even though Biden was given to bouts of boorishness himself.)

So when Biden took office, there was much rejoicing among the Beltway bubble dwellers as they crowed that the adults were back in charge. Yet, an objective assessment of the first half of Biden’s presidency necessarily leads one to question their definition of “adults.” Is that just another word for super-sized screw-ups?

Even the latest debacle of Biden’s mishandling of classified documents is compounded by the fact that he’s been using the Office of White House Counsel – which isn’t his personal counsel and shouldn’t be handling matters that involve his role as a private citizen – to address the issue, drawing an ethics complaint in the process.

If this is what it looks like with the adults in charge, bring back the kids.

RedState Weekly Briefing: Doocy Grills, FAA Ills, Gaetz Kills

January 14, 2023 by Susie Moore Leave a Comment

Welcome to the RedState Weekly Briefing  — where we take a quick look at the week’s most viewed stories in case you missed any of them. Grab a cup of coffee and sit down with this 21st Century Weekend Edition of your favorite (online) publication!

#1 – Peter Doocy Brings Down the House During Grilling of WH on Classified Docs — by Nick Arama

That’s an excellent question. There’s a lot that needs answering here. Biden hasn’t worked for Penn since 2019. So why were they packing up the office in Nov. 2022, and why was a personal lawyer sent? Personal lawyers don’t usually pack up offices, not when you have to pay them hundreds of dollars an hour. That would suggest that there was a reason that lawyer was there. Did someone else find the documents first and call the lawyer? And now, this also exposed the classified documents to that personal lawyer.

But it was Fox’s Peter Doocy who brought down the house with his question and you have to see KJP’s face in reaction, it’s priceless. Check out her eyes, it’s wonderful.

#2 – UPDATED: Flights Grounded Nationwide Due to FAA Computer System Failure — by Jennifer Van Laar

Flights across the United States are delayed Wednesday morning as the result of a computer failure at the Federal Aviation Administration. The affected system, NOTAMS (Notice to Air Missions) is responsible for sending out flight hazards and real time restrictions to pilots.

An initial statement released by the agency reads:

“THE FAA is experiencing an outage that is impacting the update of NOTAMS. All flights are unable to be released at this time.”

#3 – McCarthy Wins the 15-Round Bout, but Matt Gaetz Is the Real Winner — by Bob Hoge

Usually when a writer writes, “it was like a 15-round fight,” they’re engaging in hyperbole—but as RedState’s Nick Arama reported, Friday night’s vote for Speaker of the House did indeed go 15 rounds before Kevin McCarthy finally won after facing a rebellion from 20 Republicans who initially refused to vote for him. It was the longest speaker battle since 1853.

California’s McCarthy finally won the speakership, but Florida congressman Matt Gaetz may have won the war. He was the leader of the pack of holdouts, along with Colorado’s Lauren Boebert and Arizona’s Andy Biggs, and for a brief moment in time, they held the future one of the three branches of government in their hands. All eyes looked to them as their yay or nay could change the course of the future.

#4 – Incoming Oversight Chair Reveals Top Priority of Biden Investigation — and Humiliates Chuck Todd in the Process — by Mike Miller

Anyway, after four days and 15 ballots finally gave the gavel to McCarthy in the wee hours of Saturday morning — all but neutering his power as Speaker — it’s time for the circular firing squad to end and for the promised work to be done. Do I have my doubts? Of course, don’t you?

With the above realization surely in mind, Kentucky Rep. James Comer, the incoming House Oversight Committee chair, appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday to discuss the priorities of his committee. The bottom line: “We’re not investigating Hunter Biden; we’re investigating Joe Biden.” I like it — on paper, anyway.

Although, if Comer’s committee is to effectively investigate The Big Guy and his involvement in The Biden Family Business, of course it will also have to investigate Biden’s crackhead son Hunter, and the multiplicity of damning allegations against him.

#5 – Faces Meet Palms After Mitch McConnell Comments on the New GOP House Majority — by Bonchie

I’m not sure there’s anything conservatives despise more than being gaslit by their own leadership, and this is gaslighting of the highest order. McConnell states that he is looking forward to “working together to check and balance Washington Democrats, bring oversight to this reckless Administration, fight the far left’s radical policies, and defend America.”

Apparently, McConnell thinks the rest of us were born sometime in the last few days because he literally just got done doing what was essentially a joint campaign stop with Joe Biden in Kentucky. Together, the two lauded the passage of a massive infrastructure bill, seen as a key victory for the White House’s agenda prior to the last election. McConnell himself helped whip the votes for that spending package.

The Creepy Cult Surrounding the Gas Stove Panic Gets Exposed

January 11, 2023 by Bonchie Leave a Comment

If you’ve been on social media the last day or so, you’ve probably noticed there’s a moral panic occurring over gas stoves. According to Democrats far and wide, they are dangerous, cause asthma, and must be banned by the federal government.

As RedState reported, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pushed that line on Tuesday, resulting in much mockery given she herself has a gas stove. But what’s astonishing is that amidst her absolute certainty on the topic, she had never even mentioned the issue prior.

This is one of the creepiest parts of modern progressivism. AOC had never tweeted about stoves before yesterday, but, when she did for the first time, her tone was one of weary condescension toward the bitter-enders whom she’s been trying to inform for years. It’s cultish. pic.twitter.com/UX8FYuPim2

— Charles C. W. Cooke (@charlescwcooke) January 11, 2023

In other words, in the span of just 24 hours, Ocasio-Cortez saw some questionable study, promoted it on the internet, gained legions of supporters for her position, and then tried to pretend that everyone else had been ignoring her desperate calls. As Charles W. Cook notes, it’s cultish behavior. Is there anything the New York congresswoman could say that her army of simps wouldn’t agree with? And none of them even gave a second thought as to whether what she was saying was true or made any sense.

It wasn’t just Ocasio-Cortez, though. Other Democrats lined up to preach the dangers of gas stoves, having all suddenly become experts on the matter.

Gas stoves are toxic to people’s health. They cause asthma in children, cardiac problems & other disease. They need to be phased out. https://t.co/qBWx9p2T0X

— Senator Scott Wiener (@Scott_Wiener) January 9, 2023

This is Kennerly’s only tweet ever about asthma. He has zero tweets ever about gas stoves. But clearly he got the memo that it was time to push this study. https://t.co/2JJI3ahzWd

— Damin Toell (@damintoell) January 11, 2023

Good luck finding much support for Scott Wiener and Max Kennedy’s claims that gas stoves are “toxic” and cause asthma. Yes, a search will produce a random study or two, but there’s been no landmark research regarding gas stoves proving they are a major health risk, much less is there anything that begins to justify federal government intervention.

What makes this even dumber is that all the Democrats currently pushing for a ban on gas stoves apparently have them. If they are so dangerous, why didn’t Elizabeth Warren, Jill Biden, Kamala Harris, and others get rid of their gas stoves years ago? Could it be because this entire discussion is completely manufactured?

Gas stoves for me but not for thee pic.twitter.com/UrXzzlfziQ

— Libs of TikTok (@libsoftiktok) January 11, 2023

Regardless, it’s worth asking where this is all coming from, right? Why did Democrats all start moving in lockstep to ban gas stoves, seemingly with no prior concern at all? And sure enough, with a little digging, it’s been revealed that this isn’t just idle science taking place.

The company behind the study is called “Carbon-Free Buildings.” That company is a partner of the World Economic Forum and has a true-believer CEO who wants to rid the world of all carbon emissions (which is impossible and would lead to mass extinction).

OMG.
The company that wrote the article being used to ban gas stoves is a world economic forum (WEF) partner. pic.twitter.com/zqIwjSkuEq

— Rising serpent 🇺🇸 (@rising_serpent) January 11, 2023

Now, it’s all starting to make sense. Is this moral panic over gas stoves really about children and asthma? Of course, it’s not. Rather, it is yet more nonsense from the WEF and its like-minded corporate underlings regarding climate change. It’s obvious, in my view, that the citation of health risks being bandied about currently is just a convenient cover to try to force more people off forms of energy that rely on fossil fuels (i.e. natural gas).

That’s why no one was talking about this previously. The climate change cult is just using this “study,” which I wouldn’t trust as far as I can throw it, to accomplish its ultimate goal. But what’s scary here is how quickly they were able to mobilize. A study gets put out, Ocasio-Cortez and others run with it, and suddenly the federal government is trying to tell you what stove you can cook on. There’s a certain psychotic efficiency to the modern left, and it shouldn’t be brushed aside.

Minnesota prosecutors deliver slap on the wrist on machine gun charges

November 23, 2022 by Cam Edwards Leave a Comment

According to gun control activists, the only (or at least the best) way to combat violent crime is by creating more non-violent, possessory criminal offenses involving firearms. Every call to “do something” is, in reality, a demand to put more laws on the books; a cycle that inevitably repeats itself when those new laws fail to curb violent criminal activity.

Meanwhile, what about all the existing laws in place? Oh sure, gun control activists will complain when “red flag” laws aren’t used, but it’s exceedingly rare for gun control organizations or even individual activists to ever object when light sentences are handed down for violating laws that are already in place.

We’ve been writing quite a bit, for instance, about the growing number of auto sears that authorities say are popping up around the country. The small devices, which are either smuggled in from China or produced on 3D printers domestically, illegally modify semi-automatic handguns and rifles to shoot multiple rounds with one pull of the trigger. Possession of these devices is a federal crime, as well as illegal under most state law, and those convicted in federal court can receive up to ten years in prison.

Two brothers from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area who were caught in possession of illegally modified handguns didn’t receive a ten-year term, however. In fact, when they were prosecuted in Hennepin County, Minnesota they got off with minor consequences. Unsurprisingly, the only lesson the pair learned from their first run-in with the law is that they had little to fear by breaking it.

Twin brothers in the metro area have pleaded guilty after they were found to be in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition while being on probation for a separate weapons conviction, according to officials.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Quantez Demarco Ward and Cortez Demario Ward, both 19 years old, pleaded guilty on Monday to illegal possession of a firearm as a felon and illegal possession of ammunition as a felon, respectively.

At the beginning of the year, both brothers were charged in Hennepin County District Court for modifying firearms with auto sears. They pleaded guilty to those charges and were released on terms of probation, court documents show.

After they were released on probation, the Wards were pulled over for a traffic stop in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Officers discovered Cortez Ward carrying a 9mm pistol, and apparently this time around local authorities brought in the feds. Two months later their home was the subject of a federal search warrant that turned up multiple firearms as well as ammunition, and the two men were charged in U.S. District Court, where they recently accepted a guilty plea.

The brothers haven’t been sentenced yet, but I suspect this time around they’ll get several years in a federal penitentiary as opposed to the slap on the wrist they received in Hennepin County District Court.

You’d think this would be the type of case that would have gun control activists raising hell, but there’s been nothing but silence, even from locals in the Twin Cities. Two teenagers caught illegally carrying guns that they’d illegally modified to turn into machine guns get probation, and not even a peep from the crowd routinely demanding that concealed carry licensees face felony charges if they so much as set foot into a designated “sensitive place”?

Violent crime has been rising in Hennepin County, as it has across much of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area in the years since the riots over the murder of George Floyd. And yet when prosecutors and a judge allow the Wards to not only receive probation for their original crime, but to apparently avoid being sent to jail after Cortez Ward was once again discovered with a gun just a few months later, the gun control lobby is mum; demanding neither action nor accountability from the criminal justice system. Instead, they remain laser-focused on infringing on the rights of peaceable gun owners; including trying to convince the Biden administration to impose a gun ban through regulation, not legislation.
