Bud Light’s Nightmare Plunge Continues, and What Distributors Are Saying Is Even Worse

June 8, 2023 by Nick Arama Leave a Comment

So, in the wake of Memorial Day, when Bud Light was hoping to save itself, how are things looking now after two months of a boycott against the brand?

When we last left them about a week ago, the sales volume was down by almost 30 percent and I noted that they were in danger of losing their “number one beer in America” title to Modelo Especial.

In part, because of all the efforts by Bud Light to sell beer for basically nothing, the drop this week is not quite as steep as the prior week, but it’s still significant and it’s still dropping.

The latest industry figures, obtained by Newsweek via Bumps Williams Consulting, showed Bud Light suffered a 23.9 percent drop in sales value and a 27.8 percent tumble in volume year-on-year in the week ending May 27. That decline was overall much less steep than the one reported by the company in the previous week, when, according to BWC, it lost 25.7 percent in sales and 29.5 percent in volume.

From the numbers they have so far, it doesn’t look like Memorial Day saved them. There’s only so long they can offer the beer up for essentially free.

Almost two-thirds of beer distributors said Anheuser-Busch sales volumes were down on Memorial Day, while 62 percent said inventories are significantly higher in a survey.

A survey by investment firm Jefferies Group found that 65% of beer distributors expect the Bud Light boycott to continue for six more months and another 32% think it could be permanent, according to Brewbound, a beer industry publication. [….]

A separate distributor survey by Goldman Sachs showed most respondents do not believe Bud Light will make a “full recovery” in its “brand equity and market share,” Brewbound reported. Goldman’s survey was taken with 57 distributors who serve 200,000 retail outlets.

When the distributors don’t believe in you anymore and think the issue is going to be permanent, that’s a big problem. That might matter more than any weekly number.

But perhaps the worst news for Bud Light was that they got officially got knocked out of the “number one beer” in America slot. Modelo Especial has now taken over the top spot.

Modelo Especial store sales topped $333 million in the four weeks ending May 28, a 15.6 percent rise on the same period last year, compared with Bud Light’s $297 million, a 22.8 percent fall, according to Circana/IRI data figures obtained by Newsweek via Constellation Brands, the Mexican beer’s U.S. distributor.

Bill Newlands, the chief executive officer of Constellation, said the four-week jump had happened “quicker than we had anticipated.”

“We thought that would take a little longer,” he added. “We’ve been very fortunate that, that’s gone a little quicker than we had anticipated. But what a great position to be in on the beer side.”

Modelo Especial outside the United States is owned by Anheuser-Busch. But inside the U.S. it’s owned by Constellation under a court decision to preserve competition. So that’s also bad news for Bud Light.

On top of all that, Bud Light then had yet another controversy with a report that they were supposedly sponsoring an “all ages” drag show event after the Flagstaff Pride in the Pines parade. Under 16 requires a guardian the ad says.

After losing $27 billion in market value, have they not learned their lesson? pic.twitter.com/zc96oA55XE

But then Anheuser-Busch claimed that “Bud Light is not a sponsor of this event.” Flagstaff Pride later issued a statement stating they “put out an incorrect promotional poster.” Nobody clarified if they had been one and it was pulled, only that it wasn’t currently sponsoring it.

That’s not exactly going to help Bud Light recover or step away from controversy. But they just seem to keep spiraling out of control.

North Carolina Brewery Buys Back Its Brand From Anheuser-Busch as Bud Light’s Mulvaney Disaster Continues

June 3, 2023 by Mike Miller Leave a Comment

In this episode of This Bud’s Not for You…

As Bud Light continues to suffer the consequences of its boneheaded deal with so-called “transgender” Dylan Mulvaney — the 26-year man-child who pretends he’s a teenage girl, for money— a North Carolina brewery has become the first A-B InBev brand to buy itself back from the corporation.

Sweet, huh?

As first reported by the Winston-Salem Journal, the co-founders of the Appalachian Mountain Brewery (AMB) decided to “take the rare step of buying their freedom from [the] global conglomerate.”

Nathan Kelischek and Chris Zieber founded Appalachian Mountain Brewery in 2011 before entering a partnership with Craft Brew Alliance and eventually being acquired by Anheuser-Busch in 2021, officially becoming part of A-B’s craft beer portfolio.

Kelischek and Zieber — who are also cousins — remained involved in the AMB operation through its years under different ownership groups. They made the buy-back decision as the Mulvaney boycott continued to wreak financial havoc on the embattled corporation, tactfully telling the Wall Street Journal:

We’re grateful to have spent the last two years as active founders within A-B’s craft portfolio and want to thank the people at A-B, including our fellow craft brewery founders, for the support, collaboration, and friendship that we’ve enjoyed during our time together.

Zieber is the head brewer, and Kelischek is the brewmaster.

The cousins have opened a new tap room in Asheville, NC, and will continue to own and operate their original location in Boone, NC.

We will be shifting our focus immediately on growing our local team, opening our new taproom, and continuing our investment in sustainability and philanthropy efforts that make a difference in our North Carolina communities. This all hinges on producing the highest quality products and delivering a unique experience for our customers.

Additional information about Appalachian Mountain Brewery and its products is available on the company website.

Meanwhile, let’s check out the latest haps at Bud Light

As we reported last Saturday, Bud Light announced a $200,000 donation to the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), “the largest advocacy organization dedicated to expanding economic opportunities and advancements for LGBTQ people, and the exclusive certifying body for LGBTQ-owned businesses.” The brand said in a statement:

Bud Light was brewed to be an ‘Easy to Drink, Easy to Enjoy’ beer for everyone 21+ and that still holds true today. We look forward to extending our work with the NGLCC to continue making a positive impact on the LGBTQ+ businesses that play a critical role in bringing people everywhere, together.

Yeah, good luck with that. Oh, and great timing.

So, how bad has it become for Bud Light? As we reported, the brand’s sales were down nearly 30 percent as of May 30, and the impact of the boycott show zero signs of ending for the brand. And what’s the lesson to be learned? Play stupid games; win stupid prizes.

The Bottom Line

This is truly an American story about two guys who’ve taken pride in their products from the very beginning. Two guys who saw a faceless, international conglomerate acquire their company, only to fall victim to wokeism, and then suffer the consequences of perhaps the most effective boycott in history. Two guys who hatched a plan to buy back their proudly founded company, and did just that.

Hell, I should’ve started the article with “In the Feel-Good Story of the Day…”

RedState Weekly Briefing: Biden’s Spills, Bud Light’s Ills, Late to Work Won’t Pay the Bills

June 3, 2023 by Susie Moore Leave a Comment

Welcome to the RedState Weekly Briefing  — where we take a quick look at the week’s most viewed stories in case you missed any of them. Grab a cup of coffee and sit down with this 21st Century Weekend Edition of your favorite (online) publication!

#1 – Biden Reportedly Hurt Himself Again After Massive Spill at Air Force Commencement — by Bonchie

Let’s start with the first part. It is not normal or okay that we have a president so old, a man who will be 82 years old on inauguration day if re-elected, that he can’t help but fall down and hit his head on things multiple times a year. We’ve all been through this in real life with our own elderly relatives. As people age, they tend to suffer various injuries that younger people simply avoid. That’s one of the reasons we shouldn’t have presidents who are 80 years old.

At what point does the White House stop succeeding in covering this stuff up by claiming he’s fine? It’s not surprising at all he hit his head coming out of Marine One given how vicious his fall at the USAF academy was. The claims that he was uninjured are laughable. At the very least, he was likely dazed by the incident and sore afterward.

#2 – Bud Light’s Troubles Now Spiraling out of Control With Latest Sales News — by Nick Arama

Normally, you might have expected such a thing to wane over time. Yet if anything, it seems to be deepening and getting worse. It’s held fast through Memorial Day weekend with a lot of supply left on the shelves and in the aisles, despite Bud Light even offering it for sale for essentially free. That doesn’t spell good news for Bud Light and its parent Anheuser-Busch, which was using Memorial Day as a marker to see if they can pull back any of the customers they had lost. We haven’t gotten the numbers in yet for the weekend; they will probably come toward the end of the week.

But the numbers that we have now up through the week ending May 20th truly spell big trouble for Bud Light if they had hoped to pull out of the spiral. Sales are now down nearly 30 percent.

Tucker Carlson

#3 – FBI Raided Home of Media Consultant, Dem Politician Over ‘Embarrassing’ Tucker Carlson Videos — by Nick Arama

The material relates to a story that was run by Vice about Kanye West videos that Carlson did not air when he did his show with West, as well as the Media Matters series, “FOXLEAKS” featuring the Carlson clips that ended up making him look good (although that was not their intent). Fox sent Media Matters a cease and desist letter regarding running the materials. The letter from the federal prosecutor specifies that Vice or Media are not accused of any wrongdoing. It also says that illegal conduct by other subjects did not include Fox News employees or affiliates.

But the fact that the FBI is talking about “unauthorized computer access” means they think someone hacked Fox here and that’s how the videos got out into the firmament. So we’ll have to see how this continues to roll out. It does answer one question — that it looks like Fox didn’t leak the videos, as some may have thought. If someone went to the extent of hacking Fox, presumably, to try to take Tucker down, can we say how many ways that’s an incredibly dumb move? But if that was the aim, it failed spectacularly, as those videos only served to make Tucker Carlson more popular. Now, anyone who may have been involved could be facing some serious problems with the law as a result.

#4 – Queer Woman Confronts Catholic Priest in Ohio After He References Attacks on Faith and the LA Dodgers — by Jennifer Van Laar

During the homily at St. Raphael Church, a man later identified as Father Tim said:

We should be emboldened by that spirit, you know why? Because we are under attack. We are. Look it up. Look at the Los Angeles Dodgers. Look what’s happening. Defaming the name of Jesus Christ. Defaming the name of every Christian here on Earth. It just burns a hole in my heart, angers me and embitters me. And it should you. We should feel that sting. We should know that sting. We should understand it, and fight against it. Not by using boxing gloves. There’s other means. There’s other ways. And Jesus showed us in love. That’s how you do it. You go to the Cross. That’s how you do it. But we fight nonetheless. It just – I don’t want to give these people a name. I don’t want to give them that much credit. But it’s happening. And it’s also being affirmed. It’s also being affirmed. I want to cry. But we have the spirit. We have the spirit of the Living God, who is upon us, who is with us, who is among us and within us. We have that power and that gift and that presence. Don’t underestimate it. Allow it to encourage it and bless you and give you the insight and the mode of response.

#5 – ‘Racial Justice’? Trainer Fired for Being Late 47 Times, Gym Ordered to Pay Her $11.25 Million — by Mike Miller

To its credit, Equinox Gyms didn’t do what spineless companies across America have done since the George Floyd riots when targeted with charges of racism — which would’ve been to fall on its sword, beg for forgiveness, profess to have seen the BLM light, and pathetically promise to stop its pretend “racist” practices. (See: Spineless NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for a perfect example.)

The company said in a statement it “vehemently disagreed” with the judgment, and stressed that it doesn’t “tolerate discrimination in any form.” In addition, Eqionox filed a motion asking the court to reconsider the case — either via a new trial or a reduction of the massive award amount.

Biden’s Pride Month Statement Has All the Woke Buzzwords—but Reveals Just How Radical He’s Become

June 1, 2023 by Bob Hoge Leave a Comment

As Target, Bud Light, Kohl’s, The North Face, the LA Dodgers, and other companies face backlash and stock market disaster after their divisive “pride” displays and forced fealty to the latest version of the LGBTQIA+ flag, President Joe Biden once again felt the need to weigh in on sexual preference and identity politics.

I never really thought an 80-year-old man who gets creepy around girls (including his own daughter) would be lecturing me about such matters, but here we are.

On Wednesday, the president issued A Proclamation on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Pride Month, 2023 statement. Although the missive uses lofty language condemning intolerance and hate, it also makes some radical, divisive assertions, including that the president supports “gender-affirming care”—an Orwellian euphemism for mutilating surgeries and lifelong hormone treatments—for minors. Throw in his support for allowing—or likely, requiring—that biological boys be allowed to play on girls’ teams, and you’ll see that this kind, inclusive statement is nothing of the sort.

Proclamation from President Biden recognizing LGBTQI+ #PrideMonth 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

“My entire Administration stands proudly with the LGBTQI+ community in the enduring struggle for freedom, justice, and equality”

Full statement: https://t.co/pbqFHlIwbu

— Ryan Kaminski (@rykaminski) May 31, 2023

We’ll start with the less controversial stuff:

During Pride Month, we honor a movement that has grown stronger, more vibrant, and more inclusive with every passing year. Pride is a celebration of generations of LGBTQI+ people, who have fought bravely to live openly and authentically. And it is a reminder that we still have generational work to do to ensure that everyone enjoys the full promise of equity, dignity, protection, and freedom.

Ok, I don’t take serious issue with that. I don’t believe in discriminating against anyone, that’s all fine—as long as you leave children out of it. But Biden, like so many progressives, is unable to do so:

Today, our Nation faces another inflection point. In 2023 alone, State and local legislatures have already introduced over 600 hateful laws targeting the LGBTQI+ community. Books about LGBTQI+ people are being banned from libraries. Transgender youth in over a dozen States have had their medically necessary health care banned. … Our hearts are heavy with grief for the loved ones we have lost to anti-LGBTQI+ violence.

Whoa, there’s so much here that is wrong on so many levels. Laws protecting children are “hateful?” Keeping sexualized books away from the kids’ section in a library is bigoted? That’s the kind of thing most of these laws do. He laments lives lost—but fails to even mention the three children and three adults who were tragically gunned down at the Nashville, Tennessee Covenant Church Christian School in March by transgender “man” Audrey Hale.

Shameful.

But the real outrage is that Biden is claiming that “medically necessary” care is being denied to trans youth. Necessary according to who? Not according to millions of people who think that radical, life-altering surgeries should not be performed on minors, especially when they can lead to permanent sterilization and some clear instances of regret.

What if we all had to live with the decisions we made when we were 16 for the rest of our lives? Believe it or not, I was a big Grateful Dead fan when I was a teen—what if I’d gotten a full-body, permanent Jerry Garcia tattoo? Think I’d be happy with that choice now?

During Pride Month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and bravery of the LGBTQI+ community and reaffirm our commitment to fighting for equality and freedom for all people.https://t.co/P5y7rXIP3R

— Karine Jean-Pierre (@PressSec) May 31, 2023

Then POTUS moves on to boys playing in girls’ sports. He tries to avoid pointing out that he wants your daughter to be pummeled by a male, but that’s what he’s advocating for:

The Department of Justice is combating laws that target transgender children, and the Departments of Education and Health and Human Services have proposed new rules to protect LGBTQI+ Americans from discrimination in health care, at school, and in sports.

Way to stand up for women, Joe. Did you ever stop to think that University of Kentucky swimming star Riley Gaines (rightly) feels she’s been the victim of discrimination?

Biden goes on to proudly proclaim that he chooses appointees according to their sexual orientation:

This country is stronger and more just when America’s leaders reflect the full diversity of our Nation, so I have appointed a historic number of highly qualified openly LGBTQI+ judges and public servants at all levels of the Federal Government.

Like luggage stealer and member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Sam Brinton, formerly the nation’s nuclear waste chief? But Biden’s not done:

Our Armed Forces are most capable when all patriots can serve their country, so I protected the right of transgender people to once again serve openly in the military.

Recruiting levels are at their lowest levels since the Vietnam War, in no small part because potential soldiers are not interested in being lectured to and forced to participate in things they don’t believe in. Florida Governor and GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis agrees, saying at a Memorial Day speech Monday:

I see a lot of emphasis now on political ideologies, things like gender pronouns. I see a lot about things like DEI [diversity, equity and inclusion programs], and I think that that’s caused recruiting to plummet. I think it’s driven off a lot of warriors and I think morale is low.

Biden’s proclamation has all the right buzzwords for the extreme left, but his demands that we all accept radically disfiguring surgeries on children and applaud boys playing against girls show just how radicalized this octogenarian president has become. It’s hard to believe it’s because of his true beliefs, seeing that he voted against gay marriage in 1996 and just two years before that voted to cut off federal funds to schools that teach the acceptance of homosexuality.

No, it’s because he thinks it improves his chances of getting re-elected. I hope that—like Target and Anheuser-Busch—he finds out that the American people are no longer buying what he’s selling. Perhaps this time, pride will goeth before a fall.
