Victim of Hit-and-Run Blames George Gascon, Supports the Recall

June 30, 2022 by Levon Satamian Leave a Comment

In August 2021, a teenage driver hit a California mother in Los Angeles County. The mother, Rachel Hart, was walking her baby in a stroller when the reckless driver struck her.

Since then, she has become the face of the recall George Gascon campaign. The citizens of Los Angeles County seem beyond fed up with Gascon’s soft-on-crime, victimizing criminals approach. People in the county feel unsafe, and they are sending a message to Gascon by signing the recall petition and being vocal within their communities, calling to get rid of Gascon.

Hart said that she did everything possible to see that her attacker, who was a juvenile out on probation, would get the toughest charges possible; but he was charged with only two counts of assault to harm and one felony hit-and-run.

Per Fox News:

“I still thought, ‘OK, maybe he’ll get five years.’ For me, that was a really low bar,” Hart said on “Fox & Friends First” Thursday. “Five months is what he got.”

Crime has risen in Los Angeles due to Gascon’s reckless policies. Criminals have not been serving their full sentencing and that is due to Gascon wanting to “reduce prison time” for criminals.  There have been countless examples of why Gascon should be recalled, and replaced by a tough-on-crime DA, especially in the largest county in the country.

“The probation officer certainly made a lot of mistakes it sounds like, but had it not been for Gascon’s soft-on-crime policies, this guy would be behind bars right now.” Hart said.

Hart was not involved in the recall Gascon movement, but that quickly changed once she was struck by the reckless driver.

“I didn’t understand that the DA can have such a negative or positive impact on an entire county,” she said.

The recall Gascon campaign needed to collect 566,857 signatures to get the recall on the ballot. They surpassed that total two weeks ago. As the signatures are being verified, the campaign cautioned citizens of Los Angeles County that they need around 150,000 extra signatures, in case during the verification process, a few of the signatures are not counted.

Hart stated that although the recall will likely be on the ballot in November, Gascon will remain as DA until then, continuing to victimize criminals.

“It’s really hard to wrap your head around the fact that one person can be responsible for so much disaster, but like I said, from the top down, he is the ultimate party who’s responsible for all of this.”

Following San Francisco voters recalling DA Chesa Boudin, the momentum to recall Gascon has been greater than ever. It’s also worth noting this is not a “Republican recall” or “Republican takeover.” Democrats, Republicans, and Independents are united to make sure the streets are safe again, criminals serve their time in prison, and although the progressives and leftist “activists” want Gascon to remain in power, there are so many people pissed off and feeling unsafe, that the so-called activists will not be able to sway the results of this recall.

If and when the recall is on the ballot, voters in Los Angeles County will get an opportunity in November to vote for a return to safety and sanity.

Supreme Court Vacates Large-Capacity Magazine and Assault Weapon Bans in a Preview of What's Coming Next

June 30, 2022 by streiff Leave a Comment

The epic decision by the US Supreme Court declaring that the Second Amendment was a fundamental Constitutional right and not some kind of 18th-century artifact (Supreme Court Rules You Can’t ‘Bear’ Arms Unless You Can Carry Them for Self-Defense) has become a wrecking ball, demolishing petty and harassing laws anti-gun states have fashioned to make life difficult, if not hazardous, for gun owners. Shortly after the decision was announced, some hard-core anti-gun states gave up their unconstitutional limits on open/concealed carry (‘Bruen’s’ Domino Effect: California and New Jersey Drop ‘Good Cause’ Clauses from CCW Requirements).

Another hammer blow came on Thursday. Orders issued by the Court vacated decisions by the Third, Fourth, and Ninth Circuits and returned them “for further consideration in light of New York State Rifle & Pistol Assn., Inc. v. Bruen.”

Third Circuit

Issue: A New Jersey law limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds was upheld.

Association of New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs vs. Bruck by streiff on Scribd

Fourth Circuit

Issue: Maryland’s assault weapon ban was upheld.

Bianchi vs. Frosh by streiff on Scribd

Ninth Circuit

California

Issue: A California law limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds was upheld.

Duncan vs. Bonta by streiff on Scribd

Hawaii

Issue: Hawaii’s strict licensing requirements for carrying a handgun were upheld. READ: BREAKING. Ninth Circuit Just Made a Second Amendment Ruling That Will Leave You Shaking Your Head.

Young vs. Hawaii by streiff

The Hawaii case is a slam dunk as the facts are nearly identical to Bruen, but the other cases are interesting. The Supreme Court seems to be saying that state laws banning large-capacity magazines and assault weapon bans are illegal. This is Maryland’s list of prohibited long arms; there is also a list of banned pistols.

Forcing courts to use the strict scrutiny and historical use tests, the large-capacity magazine cases and the assault weapon case will have a hard time surviving. Large-capacity magazines have been around for years and are the most common variety. Moreover, the sheer volume of assault weapons in private hands will make it hard to restrict ownership.

Like Much of America, Wanda Sykes Desperately Needs a Civics Lesson

June 30, 2022 by Fierce Patriot News Leave a Comment

Journalist Glenn Greenwald picked up this exchange from Monday’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Comedienne Wanda Sykes was on the show, and without mentioning the Supreme Court decisions, discussed (as much as Leftists actually discuss anything) how she felt about Dobbs and Bruen. The exchange was straight up stupidity and gaslighting, but as Greenwald says, it gives insight into the bubble in which these people live.

This two-minute video from the Democratic Party late-night show provides a fascinating and highly illustrative look inside the liberal mindset. Highly recommended:pic.twitter.com/EOXaEiRI5H

— Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) June 28, 2022

I maybe can excuse Sykes for her rank ignorance. The Left has been inculcating Howard Zinn and 1619 Project-type nonsense into American history for decades. Sykes and I are in the same age category, and if she went to public school, she was infected from the get. But I was blessed with a Catholic school education until 8th grade. So, I was steeped in American history: the good, the bad, and the ugly, and not just the sanitized or the radicalized versions at each end of the spectrum. I am forever grateful for that.

Colbert, on the other hand, has no excuse. Whether it be for money, power, or both, he delights in “treating” as the mouthpiece of Sauron. He probably engineered the entire exchange for maximum brainwashing.

But the greater issue here is that most Americans, laugh, nod in agreement, or scratch their heads in confusion. Very few critically parse out exactly what was said, because they lack the tools to do so.

In case you didn’t know, Sykes is a Black, gay woman, who has a daughter. Always milking the privileged minority categories for maximum effect.

Then she says, “It’s no longer a democracy, right? It’s no longer majority rule.”

WRONG. It never has been a democracy. America is, and always has been a representative Constitutional republic. This is how the Left gaslights and obfuscates, because people assume democracy is the same as a republic. While we use democratic means to choose our representatives, it is our Constitution that guides these processes—not majority rule. This is why California with its 39 million citizens and Rhode Island with its 414,730 citizens both get TWO Senators. This is written in the Constitution. The same Constitution that the Supreme Court justices used to parse out these cases and make their decisions.

Then Sykes and Colbert went on a rant about the justices lying in their confirmation hearings. Of course, they only meant the justices who sided with the majority.

SYKES: “It’s like these judges, they basically lied during their confirmation hearings.”

COLBERT: “Especially Kavanaugh.”

Justice Brett Kavanaugh. So tired. Colbert lithely glides by Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Justice Elena Kagan in his liar’s rant. In their confirmation hearings both women claimed a respectful viewpoint on Heller and gun rights, but issued strong dissents on Bruen.

But do go off.

If you’re banging your plastic spoon on your highchair about Kav, ACB and Gorsuch allegedly lying about Roe precedent during confirmation hears but not criticizing Sotomayor and Kagan for doing the same on Heller precedent, you may be infected with partisan tribalism.

— M0ser (@TM0s41) June 29, 2022

SYKES: “It’s just a bunch of horsh*t, it really is.”

Sykes would know, as both she and Colbert shovel it on the regular.

Sadly, Americans eat it up like it’s a gourmet meal, not understanding how this continues to deepen their illiteracy and distances them from being fully engaged in how government should work, and their role in ensuring proper operation, and repairing malfunction.

The Brookings Institution pointed out the yawning deficit in civic life and American’s lack of engagement with it:

Americans’ participation in civic life is essential to sustaining our democratic form of government. Without it, a government of the people, by the people, and for the people will not last. Of increasing concern to many is the declining levels of civic engagement across the country, a trend that started several decades ago.

You can probably track this to changes in educational engagement and changes in communities. As LMSHero, an online educational resource beautifully lays out, Civics is taught, as well as caught. When presented early in a child’s education, it increases engagement. So, it is no accident that removing the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance out of classrooms has resulted in a generation of stupid people kneeling during the national anthem.

Today, we see evidence of this in the limited civic knowledge of the American public, 1 in 4 of whom, according to a 2016 survey led by Annenberg Public Policy Center, are unable to name the three branches of government. It is not only knowledge about how the government works that is lacking—confidence in our leadership is also extremely low. According to the Pew Research Center, which tracks public trust in government, as of March 2019, only an unnerving 17 percent trust the government in Washington to do the right thing. We also see this lack of engagement in civic behaviors, with Americans’ reduced participation in community organizations and lackluster participation in elections, especially among young voters.

The Trump administration was hoping to combat CRT and this colossal ignorance on how our government works and the country’s founding with the 1776 Initiative. Bob Woodson, who happens to be Black (as are many of the scholars who contribute to the project), spearheaded this initiative in order to counter the 1619 Project and its emphasis on CRT and its deceptive focus.

1776 will promote a series of essays and educational resources that provide an “aspirational and inspirational alternative” to the Times’s narrative. “People are inspired to achieve when they’re given victories that are possible, not always showering them with injuries to be avoided,” Woodson said alongside partners at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

The fatalistic narrative of the 1619 Project, which is already taught in “thousands of classrooms” across the country, according to the partnering Pulitzer Center, deprives African Americans of the agency to improve their lives, Woodson said.

Since Trump left the White House, the national focus on the 1776 Initiative left with him. But just like school choice, these types of educational initiatives work best when championed and applied locally. Which is what Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is attempting to do, using the 1776 model to reshape education in Florida.

“It’s crucial to ensure that we teach our students how to be responsible citizens,” DeSantis said during a news conference in June 2021 at a Fort Myers middle school. “They need to have a good working knowledge of American history, American government and the principles that underline our Constitution and Bill of Rights.”

According to the article, “Florida teachers” are having a problem with the 1776 Initiative’s coverage of slavery, and its focus on originalist thinking. No doubt “teachers” is code for teachers’ unions, who have more to lose than to gain from this. In any event, DeSantis is looking to right the ship from the extremes of CRT, which under the Biden administration, is being codified nationally into every aspect of life and governance.

To counter any efforts by local and state governments to incorporate the 1776 Initiative into education, Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) introduced the “Civics Secures Democracy Act,” which is basically another payout to the Department of Education to keep selling the divisive claptrap and victimization resident in CRT. Of course, he’s getting assistance from the usual RINO suspects:

Three Republican Senators are supporting the ‘Civics Secures Democracy Act.’

If passed, this bill will spend $6.3 BILLION bribing states across the nation to push a racist (CRT), Marxist, anti-American curriculum on students.

Stop them:@JohnCornyn @BillCassidy @JimInhofe

— Jillian Anderson (@Jillie_Alexis) June 30, 2022

So, while both sides claim they care about resurrecting and reincorporating civics engagement back into our society, they have diametrically different ideas on the outcome.

In last year’s California Recall gubernatorial debate, Assemblyman and current U.S. Congressional candidate Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin) accurately encapsulated our local and national dilemma on civics:

“I think the important point of CRT is that it has exposed a vacuum in our public education system. We don’t truly teach Civics in our schools anymore, at least not like we used to. Civics used to not just be some add-on to the curriculum, but it was the unifying thread of your education: to empower you, to prepare for citizenship, to be a productive member of society, to learn about the things that make America great, and our founding principles. But we don’t teach education, we don’t think about education that way anymore. So CRT has come along, and is exploiting that vacuum. If we no longer teach our kids to build their communities up, CRT will teach them how to tear their communities down.”

Now you understand why Sykes, Colbert, and the people who listen to them are content to wallow in their ignorance and further the lies.

If it’s not building our neighborhoods, communities, and unifying the people of this nation, can it truly be called civics?

I think not.

California AG office's leak of gun owner info even worse than originally admitted

June 30, 2022 by Cam Edwards Leave a Comment

The data leak from California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office, originally reported to have been limited to the private and personal details of concealed carry permitees in the state, was far more extensive than his office first admitted.

Yesterday afternoon Bonta’s office acknowledged that in addition to the concealed carry records, which included the full names, home addresses, and drivers license numbers of all those who had applied for a concealed carry permit (not just those who were approved), other databases run by the AG’s office were also open and available to download for an unspecified amount of time this week.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that the exposures also extended to the Assault Weapon Registry, Handguns Certified for Sale, Dealer Record of Sale, Firearm Certificate Safety, and Gun Violence Restraining Order dashboards.

“This unauthorized release of personal information is unacceptable and falls far short of my expectations for this department,” said Attorney General Rob Bonta.

Bonta has launched an investigation into the data breach.

The DOJ shut down parts of its website once it learned about the breach.

“It’s concerning anytime information that specific is released to the public,” says Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims. “Of course, what we tell the public all the time is to protect your personal information.”

Mims says it’s also important for these gun owners to make sure their home is secure since home addresses were part of the breach.

Yeah, thanks to the “unauthorized release of personal information” the AG’s office has provided a shopping list for criminals who are looking to steal guns and ammunition, as well putting who knows how many gun owners at risk of being targeted by abusive ex-partners or criminal defendants who appeared before one of the hundreds of judges whose personal info was made available online. This is really bad, but Bonta, despite saying he’s “angry and deeply disturbed” by the data leak, seems to be fairly nonplussed about the fact that his office has, in essence, doxxed hundreds of thousands of Californians.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the leaked information amounts to an entire decade’s worth of data on gun owners and those who applied for a concealed carry permit.

The California State Sheriffs’ Assn. said it was “alarmed” to learn of the breach.

“It is infuriating that people who have been complying with the law have been put at risk by this breach,” said Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea, the association’s president. “California’s sheriffs are very concerned about this data breach and the risk it poses to California’s CCW permit holders.”

All California law enforcement agencies that issue concealed-carry permits are required to provide “certain information” about permit holders to the Justice Department, “which in turn is required to safeguard that information,” according to a statement by the sheriffs’ association.

“It appears that before the breach was detected by DOJ, the information was copied and at least some portion of it was posted on the internet,” the statement said.

Justice Department officials said the data were exposed for less than 24 hours.

The department had posted updates to the portal Monday afternoon and was later made aware “of a disclosure of personal information that was accessible in a spreadsheet on the portal,” the agency’s statement said. Officials removed the information from public view and shut down the firearms dashboard Tuesday morning.

So far the only recourse offered by the AG’s office for those whose personal information was exposed has been credit monitoring to protect against identity thieves. What about the actual thieves who now have the names and addresses of local gun owners in their areas thanks to the downloading and dissemination of this data? Will Bonta be offering any protection against those criminals?

It shouldn’t even be up to Bonta, honestly, because he should resign in disgrace over what the California Rifle & Pistol Association is calling a “massive violation of California law.”

The CRPA has put together a an updated timeline of the data leak as well as all new information that’s become available and a link for prospective plaintiffs to join any lawsuit filed by the 2A group in response to the AG’s exposure of their personal information. I would encourage every California gun owner to get involved in this effort, as well as encouraging those of us who thankfully don’t have to live under the state’s anti-Second Amendment regime to kick in some cash to the state-level groups fighting for accountability for the officials who’ve put gun owners at risk.

This should also be Exhibit A the next time gun control groups in your state start talking about the “need” for gun registries, licensing, and yes, even “red flag” laws. Beyond the obvious constitutional issues with those databases, the California Attorney General has shown us just how easy it is for all of this information to be leaked online, and gun owners have no reason to believe that their own officials would do any better at keeping this information safe and secure.

West Hollywood Defunds Police for 'Safety Ambassadors'

June 29, 2022 by Jim Thompson Leave a Comment

A few years ago, West Hollywood issued an official decree that calls for pets (dogs, cats, and your occasional goldfish) to be called “pet companions.” Their human owners were to be referred to as “guardians.” The city council also approved an ordinance prohibiting the sale of animal hair. West Hollywood currently doesn’t allow for the sale of any fur products within the city limits. The ban includes wool because, of course, it does.

Since the city only banned the sale of fur, Pride Parade participants were free to wear phony fur and feathers. Leather, no-back chaps can still be worn by the substantial gay community of West Hollywood 12 months out of the year, you just can’t sell your fur throw.

In short, West Hollywood has always been “out there” with city council silliness, but the aforementioned weirdness was just, well, silly, not harmful to the city residents. But that changed on Monday, when the city council, by a vote of 3-2, defunded cops. It decided that the 137-percent increase in crime would be best addressed by cutting its police force.

One of the three councilmembers voting to slash the budget for policing is Mayor Pro Tem Sepi Shyne. Her bio says she’s gay, which in West Hollywood is like saying your breathing; she voted to replace cops, saying that it was time to “reimagine policing.” She assuaged concerned city residents that the city’s massive increase in crime will be met with force. The city will deploy a force of 30 “safety ambassadors” to replace cops.

Last night, I was proud to fulfill the wishes of our residents and community for better and more equitable re-imagined public safety and social services by voting alongside my courageous colleagues @LindseyPHorvath and @ourWEHO on a 3 to 2 vote. See below:

— Mayor Pro Tem Sepi Shyne (@SepiShyne) June 28, 2022

On Twitter, Shyne was proud to announce that the city budget would bring back an Entertainment Policing Team. I don’t know what that means, or how that will solve skyrocketing crime, but Shyne is pretty proud of her efforts to cut cops from the budget. Shyne’s bio tell us that she lives in West Hollywood with her wife and fur-babies. One wonders, if one of her fur babies is stolen off a leash, will she dial 911 and ask for a cop–or request that the city roll out a safety ambassador?

In Minneapolis, after the Floyd rioters burned down a police building and then the country was torched, that city council decided to cut police funding. Shocker – It didn’t work out. By December of 2021, reality had set in.

It’s not all bad news for West Hollywood, though. The city increased its budget for the Russian Arts Festival. In fact, it tripled it. I don’t know about you, but – Russian Arts Festival? Russian? Hello, West Hollywood… who isn’t triggered, just by the thought, the very mention of a ‘Russian’ Arts Festival? By the way, there’s no Ukrainian flag in the Twitter account of the city, so it seems clear to me what side of the war West Hollywood is on. Am I right?

When criminals start looting festival booths of Russian eggs, vodka and caviar, fake fur boas, and red leather chaps, will safety officers be dispatched to reason with the thieves? Who knows, but it won’t be cops. Good luck, “WeHoCity” (yes that’s what they call their city) with fewer cops; it has worked out spectacularly for every city that’s tried it.
