80-year old Chicago resident shoots, wounds suspected home invader

January 31, 2023 by Cam Edwards Leave a Comment

A brazen broad daylight attempt to rob an elderly Chicago man in his own home ended with two suspects facing charges and a long hospital stay for one of them, thanks to the fact that the octogenarian was able to defend himself with a firearm.

The 80-year old did suffer serious injuries of his own in the attack, but based on authorities’ description of the home invasion, he easily could have been killed if he hadn’t fired at his attacker.

“This doesn’t happen here. This is a pretty rare event,” said Boris Stojakovic, who manages a building across the street with his family.

Investigators said it happened at 10:30 a.m. on the 8500 Block of West Catherine in Chicago’s O’Hare neighborhood.

“We’re actively checking that all our doors stay closed, and notifying our residents to make sure not to let anyone in the building they’re not expecting,” Stojakovic said.

Police said the 80-year-old man was inside a home on the block when the suspects, a man and a woman, knocked on the door. After he opened the door, the suspects entered the home without permission and then a fight broke out.

Police say the 80-year-old, a FOID card holder, shot at the suspects, hitting the man in the chest. The woman was not injured.

Both the suspect who was shot and the homeowner were taken to a local hospital in critical condition, with the homeowner suffering serious injuries after being battered by the intruder. Now neighbors say they’re hoping he pulls through, and are praising his decision to defend himself.

Many in the neighborhood were rattled, but relieved that the victim defended himself. One woman who spoke to CBS 2 asked to remain anonymous.

“I am really heartbroken for him and the family, because he was at home alone and he must’ve been really scared when it happened,” she said. “You never know if someone’s going to come to help you in time, so this could’ve ended really badly.”

Kenny Vierneisel, another nearby resident, said, “I’m glad that he protected himself. If someone breaks into my apartment, I’m going to do the same thing. Right?”

Don’t expect similar words of support or praise for the armed citizen from the likes of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who’s fighting for another term in charge of the city and is downplaying the city’s crime problems in her re-election bid.

“Fox & Friends Weekend” host Rachel Campos-Duffy slammed Lightfoot for ignoring skyrocketing crime

“My daughter lived in Chicago for many years. She lost two classmates to crime during the time that she was there,” she said.

“These are little old ladies who get up at three in the morning, make tamales to sell to the blue collar workers who work, probably all over the city for all the rich people,” she said. “You know what [Lightfoot’s] answer was? Her answer was they should go cashless. Really? You want to sell tamales with a credit card?”

Maybe Lightfoot’s next recommendation will be telling residents that they should go property-less. If you don’t have anything to steal, you don’t have to worry about your stuff getting stolen, right?

For those Chicago residents who aren’t protected by a phalanx of Chicago cops as the mayor is, crime in the city is a major concern, and incidents like this just drive home the fact that their safety is ultimately their responsibility, not the mayor’s or the Chicago PD. I’m praying for this armed citizen’s recovery, but I also hope that his experience spurs other Chicagoans to think long and hard about their own right to armed self-defense in the future.

Watch: Lori Lightfoot Gives Chicagoans Another Reason to Vote Against Her During Lunar New Year Parade

January 30, 2023 by Sister Toldjah Leave a Comment

When Democrat Bill de Blasio was still New York City’s mayor, conservatives including Fox News host Tucker Carlson only half-jokingly talked about how there was a running contest between de Blasio and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, also a Democrat, to determine who America’s worst mayor was.

I gave the edge to failed 2020 presidential candidate de Blasio at the time. But once his second term was over in December 2021, there was no more contest.

Lightfoot has continually demonstrated since then that she is undeniably the worst, considering her proposal to give herself a raise in the middle of another violent crime wave in Chicago, her two-faced nature, blaming retail store owners in part for smash-and-grab looting sprees, instituting a racist interview policy, her threats to crack down on lockdown opponents by using force during the COVID pandemic, and most notably her failure to address the rampant crime surge in Chicago, blaming everyone but herself.

And over the weekend, Lightfoot didn’t help herself at all during an appearance at the annual Argyle Lunar New Year Parade, where she proceeded to “dance” in the middle of a drumline performance while repeatedly yelling out for people to “vote, vote, vote!” in next month’s mayoral election, where Lightfoot is facing eight challengers.

Watch:

Since @chicagosmayor‘s term began, Chicago has suffered 2,278 homicides and over 9,000 shot.

Since January 1, the city has endured 41 homicides and 194 shot.

Yet here Lightfoot is blissfully dancing and asking voters to return her to office.

Lightfoot is detached from reality. pic.twitter.com/uEbL5R9s1m

— Chicago Contrarian (@ChicagoContrar1) January 29, 2023

What would have made that video much better would have been to not have Lightfoot in it. Because the Kaotic Drumline, as Lightfoot identified them, was doing a fine job on its own. Lightfoot, on the other hand, looked like an out of touch goofball.

Lightfoot has frequently been criticized in the past for posting singing and dancing videos to TikTok and seeming to confirm that she is a deeply unserious elected official.

But between her numerous failures as mayor, the Lunar New Year parade video and the ones below from Halloween 2020, one can hardly blame her critics – including some even on the Democratic side – for wanting her to be a one-term mayor:

Because there are nine candidates for mayor, it’s unlikely that any of them will reach the magic 50% needed on February 28th to prevent holding a runoff election, which would be held between the top two on April 4th if necessary. Some polls have shown a tight race between the top contenders, with others indicating Lightfoot is – understandably – in serious trouble with concerned voters.

As she should be.

Chicago man shot by concealed carry holder on Green Line train has 32 arrests in last 10 years

January 23, 2023 by Cam Edwards Leave a Comment

Darius Moss is no stranger to police in Chicago. Since 2014 Moss has been arrested an incredible 32 times since 2014; a rap sheet that has also resulted in at least four felony convictions during that same time period.

Moss’s latest arrest came on Friday afternoon, after authorities say he robbed a man at gunpoint on a Green Line train. Since Chicago bans firearms from all CTA premises, Moss may have (rightfully) believed that the odds of his victim also being armed were pretty slim, but the repeat offender ended up winning the armed citizen lottery by picking an off-duty security guard who had a gun of his own as his intended target.

According to police, at around 5 p.m. Friday, Moss approached a 25-year-old man on a CTA Green Line train near the Laramie Station and tried to rob the younger man. That second individual, who has a CCL and valid Firearms Owner’s Identification Card, produced his gun and shot Moss, authorities said.

The victim, the man who fired shots, wasn’t hurt during the incident.

Moss, on the other hand, was shot in the leg by the armed citizen, and was taken into custody a short time later.

At a bond hearing on Sunday, prosecutors provided more details about the robbery, as well as the armed citizen who fought back.

Officials said a 25-year-old bank security guard was riding the train home shortly before 5 p.m. when Moss boarded his train car and started staring at him while smoking.

The men started arguing until Moss “upped a firearm” and announced a robbery, prosecutor Christopher Cromydas said. Holding the victim at gunpoint, Moss allegedly took the man’s keys, phone, credit card, and, notably, his concealed carry license.

Moss threatened to shoot the victim if he did not exit at the next stop, which was Cicero, according to Cromydas.

After stepping off the train, the guard pulled out his own firearm on the platform, reentered the train, and launched into a “firefight” with Moss, Cromydas continued.

“Wait, wait, wait,” Judge Ahmad interjected. “A firefight on the train?”

“Yes, your honor,” Cromydas confirmed, explaining that the gunfight took place on the train and the platform.

The guard expended 18 rounds, four of which jammed, during the incident, he said. Chicago police said Moss was shot once in the leg, but the victim was not injured.

Moss left the Cicero station while the victim continued riding to Laramie, where he identified himself to police and explained what happened.

Chicago cops found Moss walking in the area of the Cicero station and recovered the victim’s property from his possession, along with a revolver that contained four live bullets and a spent casing, Cromydas said.

I have to say that I’m kind of surprised we haven’t heard about any charges being filed against the armed citizen, given that prosecutors say he exited the train and then returned to the car with his gun drawn rather than simply fleeing the scene. Given that Moss was armed with a gun, however, it seems to me that the off-duty security guard had a duty to protect others from the armed suspect, and perhaps even the Cook County State’s Attorney sees it that way.

The 25-year old also won’t be facing charges for bringing his concealed firearm onto the train. While Chicago Transit Authority rules bar most concealed carry holders from bringing their lawfully-carried gun on board a train or bus, there’s an exemption for “security personnel” who are commuting to and from their place of employment. There’s also a lawsuit taking on that particular “gun-free zone”, and cases like this only prove the point that the city’s armed criminals don’t have a problem violating that policy. It’s Chicago’s legal gun owners and concealed carry holders who are put at risk by the city’s demands that all mass transit riders be disarmed, while guys like Moss are emboldened; not just because the city has helpfully created so many victim disarmament zones, but because when criminals are caught and charged they’re all too often given a slap on the wrist instead of serious consequences for their crimes.

Chicago’s Lightfoot lauds city’s “prosperity”

January 6, 2023 by John Petrolino Leave a Comment

Chicago’s Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot recently addressed citizens of the Windy City and called for the celebration of alleged prosperity under her leadership. Lightfoot’s remarks came a day before New Years Eve and are, in my opinion, rather lacking.

Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and her administration are highlighting some key accomplishments made on behalf of the residents of Chicago throughout 2022, a year of sustained progress and prosperity. This year ushered in the stability budget, which will continue the Mayor’s efforts to create a safer, stronger, and more economically resilient city. Chicago also saw increased levels of investments in community safety, essential services, and additional resources to improve the quality of life for those most in need. The administration celebrated the third anniversary of its signature program, INVEST South/West, an unprecedented revitalization strategy designed to transform communities. With equity front and center, Mayor Lightfoot brought relief to our city’s hardest-hit communities, empowered residents with the resources to build a safer city, and made catalytic investments throughout Chicago.

“As I reflect on this past year, I am deeply humbled and proud of all that we have accomplished working together,” said Mayor Lightfoot. “When I became Mayor, I vowed to put our city on a new path forward, guided by equity and inclusivity, to build vibrant, safe, and strong communities. Now ahead of my fourth year as Mayor, I can confidently say that we have made incredible strides on that path, and our residents and communities are all the better for it. From investing in neighborhoods that hadn’t seen a dime in decades to reimagining and expanding City services with a focus on equity and more, we are laying the foundation for a brighter future. There is more work that lies ahead of us, and I look forward to continuing my partnership with fellow City leaders, community stakeholders, and beyond to maintain Chicago’s place as the best big city.”

Under Mayor Lightfoot’s leadership, every City department and Sister Agency remained dedicated to serving all Chicagoans, meeting their needs, and deepening investments to create vibrant, resilient, and safe communities. Below you will find some noteworthy examples, and a complete list of the 2022 department and advisory council accomplishments are linked here:

From there are listed areas in which the city prospered, with a whole slew of bullet points for each category. The categories are as follows:

  • THRIVING COMMUNITIES
  • ECONOMIC PROSPERITY
  • TRANSFORMATIVE INVESTMENTS
  • SUPPORTING RESIDENTS

The only bullet that I think is worth exploring is one that fell under Supporting Residents.

The City launched the Emergency Supplemental Victims’ Fund, a pilot program which provides up to $3,500 in immediate financial relief for costs associated with funeral/burial services, relocation, and any general expenses related to gun violence victimizations.

I don’t know how I feel about such a program, but I will say in the world of reparations, this is fairly close to what could be considered reasonable. No? Why would a city feel the need to implement something like this? Because their policies are abject failures. While the leadership in Chicago often go out of their way to blame their crime on so-called lax gun laws in surrounding states, the fact of the matter is that Chicago has been, and probably will continue to be, a crime filled cesspool.

Is that program a result of a guilty conscience? Granted, it’s not like the money is Lighfoot’s, it’s tax payers we can assume, but we have to wonder if the failures of the politicians is the main mechanism for them to knowingly do such a thing. Let’s face it, free stuff is really appealing over freedom in blue cities. There needs to be a carrot to keep enticing the voters.

In Lightfoot’s love letter to her people, she left out a very inconvenient thing that was reported on back in November.

Chicago is approaching 600 homicides in 2022, but the number of shootings and killings remain below each of the past two years, according to new data from the Chicago Police Department.

Through the end of October, 580 people have been killed in the city, per CPD figures. That marks a 16% decline compared with the same period in 2021 — the city’s deadliest year since the 1990s — and a 13% drop compared with 2020.

According to the CPD numbers, 3,016 people have been shot to date in 2,441 separate incidents. Those totals are each down approximately 20% from the same time last year.

Sounds pretty prosperous to me. Especially since these wicked high numbers are part of a decline from the last two years of murdering in the town once owned by Al Capone. Those highs from the 1990’s include 1992 when Chicago’s peak murder rate was 33.1 per 100,000 people, or 940 total. By the numbers though, it’s important to note that Chicago’s winningest year of homicides on record was 1974 at 970 people (“The deadliest year occurred in 1974, when homicides took 970 lives”).The reason 1992 overshadows 1974 is because the population of Chicago proper has steadily dropped from the 50’s through and past the 1990’s, giving 1992 a larger rate. Potentially meaningful, but unexplored is that the Chicago metro area population has done nothing but increase since 1974.

Looking at the total of about 600 murders in 2022, with the final tally not in, how could Lightfoot click her heels over so-called prosperity? Yes 2021 saw 800 murders (with only 278 offenders IDed), 2020 saw 772 murders (with only 374 offenders IDed), 2019 saw 496 murders (with only 202 offenders IDed), and 2018 saw 576 murders (with only 239 offenders IDed). Everyone can laud the “decrease” when comparing 2022’s preliminary numbers to 2021’s, except the number of murders have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels yet.

Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot can pollute the airwaves and distort reality as much as she wants, but that’s not going to change the continued failures resultant to policies used in Chicago. There’s nothing prosperous about having a city with so many murders. I’m not confident that the Windy City will ever figure it out. And by that, I mean the people continuing to vote in members of the political machine who are unable to save the city from itself.

With all of that happening, thankfully the right to carry is slightly unhindered in Illinois. Although with all the activity from other pinko states, we shouldn’t act surprised should the Prairie State find themselves subject to all kinds of new infringements in 2023. Consider what Phil Murphy, the 2022 vice chair and 2023 chair of the Democratic Governors Association has done in New Jersey with the “carry killer” law. Let’s not be naïve to think that Murphy kept his ideas on infringement to himself. Afterall he did call out to Hochul, “hold my beer”, with a supersize to her goose stepping infringements in New York.

Chicago man pleads guilty to selling guns out food truck

January 4, 2023 by Tom Knighton Leave a Comment

The city of Chicago is the epicenter for a lot of gun control claims. After all, the city is violent and that violence has been used to justify all manner of gun control bills pushed in Illinois.

Never mind that the rest of the state has never had similar issues, really.

Regardless, Chicago is why the state requires a FOID card if you want to purchase a firearm. Yet, as we’ve pointed out, that doesn’t stop criminals from getting guns.

Apparently, you could even get a gun in the city at a popular food truck.

On the morning of his scheduled jury trial, a suburban man pleaded guilty — again — to narcotics and weapons charges alleging the sale of two dozen guns from the back of his popular food truck more than seven years ago.

Terry Ferguson, 58, of Willowbrook, entered his plea to one count each of cocaine distribution and possession of firearms by a felon during a hearing at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse, where a pool of prospective jurors had come in to fill out questionnaires for his anticipated trial.

What? He didn’t require FOID cards? No NICS background checks? None of that?

Why, it makes it seem as if criminals just ignore gun control laws. That can’t be right, though, because groups like Brady, Giffords, and Everytown say that gun control works. They don’t have any incentive to pretend otherwise, do they? I mean, it’s not like admitting that restricting guns for law-abiding folks does nothing to disarm criminals might make the donations dry up or anything.

That couldn’t be the case at all.

Seriously, this is just insane to me. Selling guns and drugs out of a food truck–one that was apparently pretty popular in and of itself–is the kind of thing you expect to see on an episode of some police show. It’s goofy enough that you just can’t expect it to happen in real life.

And yet, here we are.

What we see, though, is that criminals will find a way to obtain guns. If there’s a market for it, someone will fill that demand. That’s just how humans work.

While some might claim that guns might be unavailable for sale if we just banned them, let’s not forget that drugs are basically banned, and Ferguson was selling that out of his food truck as well. I find it hard to believe that guns wouldn’t somehow make it onto the black market even if there were none to steal or purchase illegally.

That idea is absolutely insane.

And yet, there are people who will push it. They’ll make just that claim. It seems these folks have little or no relationship with reality. After all, that’s the only way you can look at this and recognize that as long as there is a demand, someone will provide the guns criminals want.

Whether they sell them out of a food truck, their car trunk, or the back room of some store, the black market will be with us always. Don’t delude yourself into thinking it won’t be.
