Chinese President Xi Jinping Lands in Moscow, and His Meeting With Putin Should Worry Biden

March 20, 2023 by Joe Cunningham Leave a Comment

Early Monday morning, President Xi Jinping of China landed in Moscow for a three-day trip that is meant to show solidarity with Russia and its ongoing invasion of Ukraine. It makes sense that China would support Vladimir Putin’s war – after all, Xi wants to do the same to Taiwan before too long.

The visit comes after Putin visited Russia-controlled Mariupol, a Ukrainian city that Russia destroyed during the course of its invasion of Ukraine. His visit was to celebrate the successful rebuilding of that city. It’s the latest in Putin’s attempts to show strength, despite the longer-than-expected conflict.

However, their meeting is about way more than just Ukraine and Taiwan. It’s a show of solidarity and strength to the rest of the world. As Axios notes, China isn’t running afoul of the West yet, but this meeting is almost a provocation of sorts.

Why it matters: The three-day state visit is a major display of solidarity with Russia from its most important global partner. It comes amid warnings from Washington that Xi might back the Russian war effort more directly by providing arms — claims China has denied.

  • Thus far, China has not provided weapons or openly breached Western sanctions.
  • It has, however, helped shield Russia from Western efforts to isolate it, significantly increased imports of Russian oil, and become an even more crucial source for Russia of key inputs like microchips.
  • While Beijing claims to be a neutral arbiter and presented its own peace plan last month, officials and state media have echoed Putin’s arguments that NATO is to blame. Some pro-Ukraine sentiments have been scrubbed from the internet.

But, this meeting is important for one big reason. It’s a combination of powers that both want the same thing: Regional dominance and the removal of Western influence from their spheres.

Now, to your average, anti-war nationalist/isolationist, that’s an okay thing. We should all leave each other alone. But the problem is that we’re past the point of no return on true nationalist isolation – we are in a global economy, and our national economic strength relies on global trade. What’s more, the best way to stay out of armed conflict is to be strong enough to talk people out of it before it starts.

For a while now, foreign policy experts have worried that we have moved on from the bi-polar world of the 1980s (U.S. and Russia) to a tri-polar world (U.S. and Russia and China). But in recent years, something has become apparent: China and Russia are behind where we thought they’d be.

For example, a nation like Russia by all estimates should have been able to decimate Ukraine fairly easily with nothing the U.S./Nato would have been able to do about it before it was all over. However, Russia has struggled – their military strength was not what we thought it was, and Ukraine has been able to successfully turn this into a long, protracted conflict that the Russians do not seem to have been prepared to fight.

As far as China goes, it’s clear that the Chinese military and economy are both built on a pretty unstable foundation – like a house of cards, they are flimsy at best. China has been largely unable to innovate, and instead chooses espionage and theft of corporate and military secrets in order advance, and what they do end up stealing usually seems to be a generation or two behind where the most modern innovations are.

But that doesn’t mean both countries are powerless.

And while that bodes well for the U.S., those two powers coming together should worry the likes of the Biden administration, which has thus far proven entirely incapable when it comes to foreign policy.

Biden has ceded much of the Middle East to China – for example, choosing to favor Iran over our allies in Saudi Arabia and leading both to turn to China for help in creating stability. He has also allowed China to fly a spy balloon over the country, Russia to be held pretty much unaccountable for its invasion, and North Korea to get more aggressive in its provocations against the U.S. and South Korea.

If the world looked at the Trump administration as a joke, God knows what they think of the Biden administration, which has been so meek and timid when it comes to global affairs that it would be better if we said nothing at all.

A meeting of the minds between China and Russia is a clear sign that the U.S. shrinking from the world stage is bad and destabilizing. We will see more conflicts, and the U.S. will get drawn into a conflict whether we want to or not. But if we are, our best hope is that it does not happen before Joe Biden leaves office.

Moore to the Point – Oversight

March 20, 2023 by Susie Moore Leave a Comment

Recently, I remarked on the value of congressional hearings, even if repercussions for any wrongdoing exposed may not be immediate or obvious. One of the key committees conducting investigations into potential wrongdoing by Biden family members – including, possibly, the president himself – is chaired by Kentucky Rep. James Comer.

So far, Joe Biden hasn’t really been pressed to provide explanations for – well, honestly, much of anything. For instance, what about those classified documents found scattered about his offices and residences — remember those? Joe’s largely hand-waved those away – just an oversight. (Never mind that he questioned “how anyone could be that irresponsible” regarding Donald Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents.)

Last week, the Treasury Department finally agreed to turn over records regarding the 150 some-odd “Suspicious Activity Reports” generated by the Biden family. Then came additional revelations from the committee regarding bank records showing payments to four Biden family members from a Chinese energy company shortly after Biden left the vice presidency – including Hunter, James, Hallie, and a mystery Biden to be named later. Will Joe attempt to wave those payments away as well? Were those just oversights, too?

Let’s hope the committee lives up to both parts of its name: Oversight and Accountability.

This “Moore to the Point” commentary aired on NewsTalkSTL on Monday, March 20th. Audio included below.

Even CNN Admits Things Not Looking Good for Biden, Then Comer Drops More Damning Info

March 19, 2023 by Nick Arama Leave a Comment

As we reported, the House Oversight Committee says it now has evidence showing that the Biden family received more than a million dollars in relation to a payout from a Chinese company with ties to the CCP.

Among the accounts that received the money were companies related to Jim Biden (Joe’s brother) and Hunter Biden (Joe’s son), as well as an account for Hallie Biden (Beau Biden’s widow and Hunter Biden’s former girlfriend). There was also another account, just marked “Biden” which may pertain to yet a fourth Biden.

Even CNN was forced to cover it and admit that it didn’t look good for Joe Biden. You know that’s bad for Joe Biden when they have to admit the truth.

A Biden associate “gets $3 million from a Chinese-based company and proceeds to wire it out to a bunch of people named Biden,” says CNN’s Erin Burnett.

“That doesn’t look good.” pic.twitter.com/JbBbP91Z2i

— RNC Research (@RNCResearch) March 18, 2023

Yes, to most Americans it doesn’t look good either and it shouldn’t when you’re getting money from CCP-related folks for unclear reasons and this is just after Joe Biden left being vice president. Was it a payoff for services rendered? Or a payoff for services to come? Those are the natural questions that people would ask and it raises a huge flag about Biden being compromised through his family and/or through his own involvement.

As we noted, Joe Biden has claimed to know nothing about his son’s business. That of course is a lie, as we’ve shown. But he also claimed during a debate in 2020 that his son didn’t get money from China.

Joe Biden falsely claims Hunter Biden has not made money from Chinahttps://t.co/pKlL3UvNqS pic.twitter.com/br4xiizRZy

— RNC Research (@RNCResearch) October 23, 2020

This evidence blows that up too, because not only was Hunter’s companies getting money, but other Biden family members were as well.

Biden also claimed on Friday that it wasn’t true that his family had gotten such a payout, despite the evidence to the contrary. Perhaps he’d like to explain the evidence then and who the “unnamed” Biden account is.

But it gets worse for Biden.

As Rep. James Comer explained to Fox’s Maria Bartiromo on Sunday, this was “just the beginning” as they’ve just started going through all the records they’ve now received. He also outlined another concerning message in relation to the CCP-related Biden payout.

Comer explained how Joe Biden made trips to China, took his son and some of his associates with him and Biden met with some of the people he claims that he never met with. So Comer said we know Biden hasn’t been truthful about what went on when he was vice president.

When speaking about business dealings with the Biden family, Rob Walker once said that exposing him would ‘bury all of us, man.’

Why? @GOPoversight has many questions for Rob Walker and we look forward to getting answers for the American people. @MariaBartiromo @FoxNews pic.twitter.com/ZgNNywDhEG

— Rep. James Comer (@RepJamesComer) March 19, 2023

But from talking to former associates that were involved with Hunter Biden, Comer said they knew the “Biden family had agreed to help China do was get their foot in the door” in terms of the American energy industry and even to help in buying American farmland. We’re seeing all this, as we now are concerned about the growing Chinese interests in the American economy.

Yes there was a message that Hunter was very frustrated with one of these business partners in China, that he had done every blanking thing they had ever asked of him. And, of course, this would have been when Joe Biden was vice president, and he reminded them that they had never done anything in return for him, and then a few weeks later, this $3 million wire appears in the Robinson Walker account, and the very next day they distributed money to Hunter Biden and then at least two other family members and possibly three family members. So there’s evidence in the laptop that shows that Hunter Biden was communicating with them and had interactions and done things for them while his father was vice president.

That’s “very concerning,” Comer said, that Joe Biden might have done things for the Chinese while he was vice president.

I don’t think the White House ever dreamed we would get bank records. I’ve got bad news for the White House: This is just the beginning. We’re going to get a lot more bank records and they’re going to have to continue to backpedal and come up with some type of reason why the Biden family’s received millions and millions of dollars from our adversaries.

Bartiromo agreed and noted all kinds of Chinese concerns from the spy balloon to Chinese nationals flooding the border, and then Biden didn’t immediately respond to the spy balloon and hasn’t held them accountable for COVID. “How much do they have on Joe Biden?” Bartiromo asked.

There are a lot of big questions here and this is just what we have at this point. Prepare for still more as Comer works his way through the other deals and more evidence.

WATCH: Chinese Nationals Encountered by Fox News Crew at Southern Border

March 19, 2023 by Susie Moore Leave a Comment

We’ve been covering the ongoing crisis at the southern border extensively at RedState. A sampling of that coverage from just the past week:

Chaos at the Border: Massive Crowd of at Least 1000 Storms Port of Entry Near El Paso

Despite the Del Norte Bridge Illegal Surge, DHS Committee Democrats Refuse to Attend Border Field Hearing

As DHS Head Mayorkas Continues to Lie, Biden Continues to Do Zero to Secure Southern Border

Skyrocketing Number of Deaths Shows Human Cost of Biden’s Border Policies—’It’s Like a Graveyard’

Meanwhile, the Biden administration appears intent to turn a blind eye to the chaos and destruction spurred on by their lax policies. As Bob Hoge so aptly put it:

The only conclusion one can make from Biden’s absolute refusal to deal with the border—along with his surrogate “border czar” Kamala Harris—is that this is what they want.

Neither has found the time to even visit the Rio Grande, much less take effective action to stem the flow of illegals. There are costs here—and the costs are the corpses of the unfortunate souls who embarked on a perilous journey feeling they had an express invitation from the Biden administration—which in effect, they did.

I always find it histrionic when writers write that a politician has “blood on his hands,” but in this case, there is a tragic rise in dead people, and that rise can be directly laid at the feet of Biden and his border policies.

In addition to the very real human costs outlined above, there remains the looming threat to national security as well. A February hearing before the House Oversight Committee confirmed that nearly 100 individuals on the FBI’s terror watch list were apprehended at the border in Fiscal Year 2022. Moreover, we know that illegal immigrants from over 160 countries have been encountered at the border.

China would be one of those countries, as noted by Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins in this Sunday morning tweet regarding an encounter with Chinese nationals on Saturday:

NEW: Chinese nationals are illegally crossing the border in unprecedented numbers in the RGV sector – up 920% comp to last year – and a cash cow for the cartels bc they pay $30k+ to be smuggled across. Here is a group of 5 we encountered yesterday @FoxNews pic.twitter.com/u7gkI9EVfr

— Griff Jenkins (@GriffJenkins) March 19, 2023

What’s interesting about the group (in addition to their country of origin being more than 7,000 miles distant) is their attire and lack of baggage/equipment. They look like they’re simply out for a leisurely Saturday stroll. One is forced to wonder: Where did they come from? And, more importantly, why?

In the video, though their English is limited, they acknowledge they are from China. And they are far from alone. As noted by Customs and Border Protection Chief Gloria Chavez (one of the witnesses who testified at the aforementioned Oversight hearing) notes that in Fiscal Year 2023 alone, there have been 1,577 apprehensions of Chinese immigrants — and that’s just in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) sector.

RGV continues to lead the nation in Chinese migrant encounters. In FY23, there have been 1,577 apprehensions-91% being single adults. A 920% increase compared to FY22 creating a strain on our workforce due to the complexities of the language barrier & lengthens the processing. pic.twitter.com/X9Z4QEbNT3

— Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez (@USBPChiefRGV) March 16, 2023

CBP data backs up the fact that record numbers of Chinese nationals have been entering the U.S. illegally since Joe Biden took office.

The number of Chinese nationals illegally entering the U.S. has significantly increased under the Biden administration, beginning around the 2020 election, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.

Nationwide, 18,395 Chinese nationals were apprehended in fiscal 2020; 23,471 in fiscal 2021; 27,756 in fiscal 2022; and 10,587 in the fiscal year to date.

The vast majority are single adults. In fiscal 2020, 18,014 apprehended were single adults; 23,172 were single adults in fiscal 2021; 26,447 were in fiscal 2022, and 9,772 were so far in fiscal year 2023.

The numbers have become so significant, that special measures have been implemented to address the added language barrier.

Chinese nationals make up such a significant number of gotaways that rescue beacons were established along the southern border and have instructions in Mandarin. Gotaways are those who intentionally seek to evade capture from law enforcement after illegally entering between ports of entry. At least 1.2 million gotaways have been reported since President Joe Biden’s been in office, a record, although that number is expected to be significantly higher because not all gotaways are recorded.

Rescue beacons positioned throughout the southern border help Border Patrol agents rescue foreign nationals attempting to make it through desert-like and remote areas. The structures are tall and white and look like antennas with a blue light at the top. About eye level is a red button and a sign with instructions in English, Spanish and Mandarin that reads: “If you need help push the red button. Help will arrive. Do not leave the area.”

The beacons also have instructions with a diagram to show people how to push the button. Once they push it a signal is sent to a nearby Border Patrol station so agents can come and rescue them. If the beacons weren’t there, those relying on them would likely die, law enforcement officers told The Center Square.

I suppose that’s one sort of “operational control,” Secretary Mayorkas. The question is: Whose?

As TikTok’s (and China’s) Influence Continues to Rise, Silicon Valley Starts Fighting Back

March 19, 2023 by Joe Cunningham Leave a Comment

Despite the warnings from security experts, the government, and seemingly everyone in between, the viral social media and video app TikTok has continued to grow at a wild pace in the U.S.

With roughly 150 million users in the U.S, the app’s popularity has continued to rise, leading to what some are calling a data privacy nightmare. In fact, it’s so problematic that Congress will be hearing from the CEO of the app this week.

When TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew testifies before Congress on Thursday, he plans to unveil new internal data that suggests the popular video-sharing app is far more enmeshed in Americans’ daily lives than anyone realizes.

TikTok currently says about 100 million people in the U.S. are regular users of the app. But when Chew testifies before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, he will say that number has now reached 150 million, according to a senior Democratic strategist advising TikTok.

That 50% jump in the number of monthly active users in the U.S. suggests the app has become even more entrenched in the U.S. over the nearly three years that Washington — under two presidential administrations — has grappled with how to rein it in.

Despite the sheer amount of personal data the app collects and the fact that the company’s servers are located in China, the app just hits all the right pleasure centers of the brain. It’s viral content with an algorithm that constantly adjusts to bring us the content we most want to see, the videos are short enough that our attention span doesn’t run out before the content ends, and it’s easy to go from one video to the next without having to search.

It’s addiction made easy, but it comes at a pretty big cost. State and federal government agencies are banning the app on government-issued devices because it sniffs around for a lot of personal information not just from your device, but potentially the specifics of the network you’re using at the time. It’s a big risk that Congress and the White House are taking notice of.

But, it isn’t just Congress that is taking note, either. Apparently, Silicon Valley is coming together to push back against China’s influence in the social media space – and the tech industry overall.

According to the Wall Street Journal, a group of “Silicon Valley executives, including investor Peter Thiel, and Washington lawmakers are quietly mobilizing against China’s involvement in the U.S. tech industry.” That’s a big move in the industry, which for years has been friendly with the Chinese.

A lot of American companies, in fact, have been extremely friendly with China because of the size of the Chinese market. But such a relationship has costs – censorship and demands for data are often the biggest sacrifices made to get access into the Chinese market.

And that’s not just the tech industry, either. Disney frequently bends the knee to the ruling Chinese Communist Party, as does the NBA. The result is almost always a compromised product. But if Silicon Valley is fighting back, that is a big step in pushing Chinese influence out of some of our key industries.

More, from WSJ:

“We’re priming Congress to be ready for this testimony,” said Mr. [Jacob] Helberg. He and others attending the dinner have been encouraging lines of questioning about TikTok. He said he views TikTok as “the most potent espionage operation that China has ever carried out against the U.S.”

A spokeswoman for TikTok didn’t comment on the group, but said TikTok has never shared U.S. user data with Beijing. “The Chinese government has never asked us to share U.S. user data, nor would we, if asked,” she said.

The call for TikTok’s Chinese owners to sell their stakes represents the most forceful demand of the app yet from the Biden administration. The U.S. government, the European Commission, Canada, Belgium and more than 30 U.S. states have banned TikTok on government-issued devices. Federal Bureau of Investigation director Christopher Wray said in early March that TikTok “screams out with national security concerns.”

Helberg, mentioned in the except, is described as a “former Google policy adviser who is the newest member of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, a congressional research and advisory panel.”

We don’t know if TikTok will ever be fully separated from the Chinese government, but if the U.S. government and Silicon Valley are teaming up to fight the Chinese, it’s a positive step forward.
