Why Did the FBI Raid Mar-a-Lago After Trump Extensively Cooperated With Grand Jury-Ordered Search?

August 11, 2022 by Mike Miller Leave a Comment

I tend to stay away from “breaking” news that every other political pundit on the planet is in the process of beating to death, but the latest revelation surrounding the FBI’s Monday raid on Donald Trump’s private residence at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach was too “good” to pass up — and boy, do questions abound.

As reported by John Solomon, founder, CEO, and editor-in-chief of Just the News on Thursday, two months before the Mar-a-Lago raid, Trump “secretly received a grand jury subpoena for classified documents belonging to the National Archives, and voluntarily cooperated by turning over responsive evidence, surrendering security surveillance footage and allowing federal agents and a senior Justice Department lawyer to tour his private storage locker, according to a half dozen people familiar with the incident.”

The FBI on Monday raided that very storage locker. Does that strike you as odd? Me, too.

While the cooperation was mostly arranged by Trump’s lawyers, noted Solomon, the former president personally surprised the Justice Department’s National Security Division prosecutor and three FBI agents who arrived at Mar-a-Lago on June 3, “greeting them as they came to pick up a small number of documents compliant with the subpoena,” the sources told JTN.

Here’s more, via Just the News:

The subpoena requested any remaining documents Trump possessed with any classification markings, even if they involved photos of foreign leaders, correspondence, or mementos from his presidency.

Secret Service agents were also present and facilitated the visit, officials said.

Trump signaled his full cooperation, telling the agents and prosecutor, “Look, whatever you need let us know,” according to two eyewitnesses. The federal team was surprised by the president’s invitation and asked for an immediate favor: to see the 6-foot-by-10-foot storage locker where his clothes, shoes, documents and mementos from his presidency were stored at the compound.

Given Trump’s instruction, the president’s lawyers complied and allowed the search by the FBI before the entourage left cordially. Five days later, DOJ officials sent a letter to Trump’s lawyers asking them to secure the storage locker with more than the lock they had seen. The Secret Service installed a more robust security lock to comply.

The Trump Organization also received a request for surveillance video covering the storage locker and volunteered the footage to federal authorities, according to the sources, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity, given the secrecy of the grand jury subpoena.

Again, more than a year and a half after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and aftermath, what changed between June 3 and Monday? Why the raid on at least one of the assumed critical areas that Trump had voluntarily allowed being searched, just two months earlier? What changed to not only make a second search necessary but to turn it into a yuuge news event, as well? I bet we can figure it out.

As we reported Thursday morning, FBI Director Christopher Wray finally responded to questions about the raid on Trump’s private residence at Mar-a-Lago, deflecting like crazy and saying he’s “concerned” about “threats” being made to FBI agents after they ransacked the former president and first lady’s home.

As we also reported, Biden’s inept attorney general, Merrick Garland spoke briefly on Thursday afternoon, saying the Justice Department has asked a federal magistrate judge to unseal copies of the search warrant that triggered Monday’s unprecedented raid on Mar-a-Lago. Garland also confirmed that he had “personally approved” the decision to seek a warrant, reportedly for “classified documents” Trump may have kept in his residence at the resort. The AG spoke for roughly four minutes and took zero questions from reporters. Why not? Garland said he asked the judge to unseal copies of the search warrant that triggered the raid, yet he refused to take questions about the raid.

Again, odd? Hell, yeah. Why no questions, Mr. AG?

Was Garland afraid he’d mix up the “facts” or deviate from the official line? Enquiring minds want to know — including what else might have transpired or been discovered — or not — that led to a raid on Trump’s personal storage locker that he had already voluntarily helped agents search. Important questions that deserve legitimate answers.

Noted George Washington University Law professor Jonathan Turley had similar questions, telling Fox News host Sean Hannity, “The more we learn, the more confusing this gets.” As transcribed by JTN:

Did they relay this history to the magistrate? That, according to these sources, the president had cooperated. I mean, the idea that he was subject to a subpoena, complied with a subpoena, didn’t challenge it, voluntarily showed the storage room to the agents, followed their advice, secured it to meet their demands.

All of that is hardly a basis for saying now we need to send in 40 FBI agents on a raid. I mean, if the subpoena worked the first time, then presumably a second subpoena would work the second time if there were remaining documents.

Exactly. Why would Trump voluntarily cooperate — extensively so — a first time and not a second time? So many questions, so few logical answers.

Why you don’t suppose this whole thing is politically motivated, do you? Out of fear of a likely Democrat beatdown in the November midterms, let alone the 2024 presidential election? [snark, snark, and snark.]

As the old saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire. In the case of Joe Biden, Merrick Garland, and Christopher Wray, where there’s stink — there’s likely rot. Stay tuned.

FBI Dir. Christopher Wray Finally Responds to Raid of Trump Residence

August 11, 2022 by Bonchie Leave a Comment

FBI Dir. Christopher Wray has finally responded to his bureau’s raid of Donald Trump’s Florida residence, and he wants you to know who the real victims are.

Apparently, despite all the questions surrounding the action, including the fact that it supposedly occurred due to a mundane dispute over the Presidential Records Act, the real bad guys here are those criticizing the FBI. What a completely shocking and unexpected response from the consummate company man.

🚨Breaking: FBI Director Chris Wray finally confronted on FBI raid of Donald Trump’s private residence at Mar-A-Lago, deflects and says he’s “concerned” about “threats” being made to FBI agents after they ransacked the former President’s home. pic.twitter.com/VXC6XnQpxp

— Real Mac Report (@RealMacReport) August 10, 2022

Here’s a song for Wray.

I’m trying to think of something I care less about than the FBI citing unnamed “death threats” as a way to deflect from their own maleficence, and I’m coming up blank. This is what corrupt government officials always do. They lash out in ways that draw blowback, and then they try to disqualify that blowback by saying “I’m getting death threats.”

Well, welcome to the world of being a public figure. Heck, I’m an anonymous political writer, and I’ve gotten death threats. In the seven years that the FBI has been ruthlessly, purposely targeting Donald Trump, not a single agent has been harmed as a result. The story here is not any threat to the bureau or its employees, it is the bureau’s own actions, and no amount of pointing at squirrels by Wray is going to change that.

The FBI had a chance to treat political actors from both sides of the aisle equally. Instead, they treated Hillary Clinton with kid gloves, haven’t even targeted Hunter Biden at all, and sent armed agents after Donald Trump for a mere records dispute. That was Wray’s choice (no way did he not give the approval for the Trump raid), and now he can face the consequences regarding public opinion and eventually in Washington if elected Republicans have any kind of a backbone.

Wray and his cohorts aren’t immune from the principle of sowing and reaping. They wanted to go scorched earth and weaponize their bureau for political reasons, and that leads somewhere. They don’t get to slam on the brakes the moment things get uncomfortable. The FBI used to be respected by most Americans, despite its checkered history. Those days are over and for good reason.

To summarize, the story here is not that Wray is “concerned” over some anonymous threats on the far reaches of the internet. There are 330 million people in this country so that’s not relevant, especially when we are talking about an agency with unlimited resources to protect itself. The story remains that the FBI is a corrupt dumpster fire that has two sets of rules depending on a target’s political persuasion. Wray had a chance to change that dynamic but he has only fed into it. That’s on him.

Former AG Matthew Whitaker Rips Mar-a-Lago Raid: 'This Is Something From Banana Republics'

August 8, 2022 by Bob Hoge Leave a Comment

Former Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight Monday and excoriated the Justice Department for conducting today’s raid on the residence of a former president and current rival to the sitting POTUS. As we’ve been reporting, hundreds of FBI agents descended onto Donald Trump’s Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, and left with many boxes of evidence. Whitaker told fill-in host Will Cain:

I just think this is an outrageous expansion of the FBI’s—really, I don’t know how else you say it—attack on Donald Trump for the last six years…

We’ve crossed the Rubicon to some extent. This is something from banana republics, not the United States of America.

Whitaker believes President Joe Biden would not have been consulted about the raid, but that Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Chris Wray both almost certainly would have had to sign off on the criminal investigation that led to it.

I would be surprised if this Department of Justice allowed Joe Biden to be involved. That would obviously be a line that shouldn’t be crossed in a criminal investigation. But yes, I would expect that Chris Wray and Merrick Garland both signed off on the criminal investigation of Donald Trump.

Former Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker is asked about the process of executing a raid on a former president:

“It’s a burden, but it’s not insurmountable.” pic.twitter.com/4p9wjJSVhI

— The Post Millennial (@TPostMillennial) August 9, 2022

Whitaker served as Acting Attorney General from November 7, 2018, to February 14, 2019, after Jeff Sessions resigned. He also accused the Justice Department of politicizing the institution:

It’s hard not to believe that these [actions] are politically motivated. I have spent seven and a half years at the Department of Justice. It’s an institution that should be trusted, but they have eroded that trust to a point now, where I think, to your point earlier, they have a burden to demonstrate that this investigation is not completely politically motivated after Hillary Clinton walked scott-free for the last seven years.

What happens next? Whitaker thinks things are only going to get more problematic:

This is where the American people need to ask very difficult questions. Congress needs to ask very difficult questions. Because at the end of the day, if they’re really planning to bring Donald Trump to Washington, DC in front of a Washington, DC jury and a Washington, DC judge, you know, this republic is maybe not strong enough to bear that burden ultimately. But we will see.

The FBI is into an unprecedented area. The Department of Justice under the Democrats leadership I think is going into a very dangerous field right now.

Monday’s raid adds to the disturbing trend of the FBI to mount junta-style investigations and raids on Trump supporters and opponents of the Biden administration. They came after Roger Stone in 2019 like he was a dangerous terrorist, conducting a dawn operation with heavily-armed agents to bring him into custody for allegedly making false statements to Congress. Just last month the FBI repeated their antics, conducting yet another raid on a former Trump Justice Department official, Jeffrey Clark, who had to beg to be allowed to put on his pants. Add to the list the raid of Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe’s home in November 2021, and it becomes pretty clear that what we have here is a pattern.

This descent into banana republic politics is dangerous to our nation. Turning our Justice Department into a Democrat-armed force to intimidate political foes and their supporters is un-American. We can only hope Republicans do in fact dominate the midterms and put a stop to this nonsense.

That 'Flight' Christopher Wray Told Senators He Had to 'Catch' Turns Into a Scandal

August 8, 2022 by Bonchie Leave a Comment

Last Thursday, FBI Dir. Christopher Wray appeared before the US Senate to ostensibly answer questions about the bureau’s conduct. What followed was a thorough undressing of the corrupt agency while Wray himself scoffed at any sort of accountability.

First, Sen. Ted Cruz exposed the entrapment that took place regarding the FBI-led Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping plot. Sen. Josh Hawley also exacted his pound of flesh in questioning. Later, Wray tried to wiggle out of the hearing by claiming to Sen. Chuck Grassley that he had “a plane to catch.”

Well, now we know what plane he caught and where it was going, and it sure seems like a scandal. Far from the picture Wray tried to paint of him rushing through a busy international airport to catch a scheduled flight, he actually jumped on his taxpayer-funded private jet, a state-of-the-art Gulfstream 550. Worse, though, was where he went. It doesn’t appear he was on FBI business. Instead, he was taking a vacation.

The New York Post has the report.

Grassley’s staff did not know where Wray was going after the hearing and FBI public affairs did not respond to an email Sunday by press time.

But the luxury FBI Gulfstream Wray uses was recorded on Flightradar24 making the one hour and 12 minute flight later that afternoon to bucolic Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks, which happens to be a favorite summer destination since his childhood, when he used to hike the High Peaks and fish for trout, according to the Adirondack Daily Enterprise.

Holy shit great find @mirandadevine “The luxury FBI Gulfstream Wray uses was recorded on Flightradar24 making the one hour and 12 minute flight later that afternoon to bucolic Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks, which happens to be a favorite summer destination since his childhood.”

— Julie Kelly 🇺🇸 (@julie_kelly2) August 8, 2022

There are several things to consider, including the fact that Wray clearly misled Congress on why he had to leave. The idea that a government-controlled FBI jet couldn’t wait an extra few minutes for Republicans to finish their questioning is ludicrous. Wray is nothing if he isn’t manipulative, though, and the way he played things while in the hearing was clearly meant to make it seem as if he were catching a commercial flight. That’s not a “lie,” I guess, but it is dang sure dishonest.

Then there are the questions around whether Wray’s flight was even legal. I can’t say as I’m no expert on that area of the law, but I’ve always been under the impression that government officials can’t use government aircraft for personal trips, with the only exception being the President of the United States. If Wray tries to claim that he needed to go to his favorite vacation spot on an FBI jet for “business,” that’s scandalous.

This is a story that needs to be dug into by those who have the resources to do so, beginning with the Republican senators that Wray tried to play. The FBI is a dumpster fire, and if I had my way, it’d be defunded and abolished. That’s not going to happen, but holding Wray accountable would be a good start. And the moment a Republican retakes the White House, he must be fired.
