Mike Pence Does in His Campaign With One Astonishing Remark About Ukraine

June 8, 2023 by Nick Arama Leave a Comment

I guess I don’t understand why people who have no lane to win are running in the Republican primary.

Yes, theoretically, anyone could win. But the bottom line is that some of these folks may not even get the numbers they need to qualify for the debate, which would pretty much be their only chance to break out. So why are they running?

When you hear that you may have people like Asa Hutchinson or North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum running, you might just say, “Who?” They don’t have any kind of constituency for a national run or name recognition. Plus, they’re up against former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who have some strong constituencies.

So what’s the point? Money? National recognition? If they run now and lose, maybe people notice them this time for the next election. They’re hoping for positions in a GOP cabinet? Or just a lot of ego, thinking they can somehow break through?

But I guess the person I truly don’t understand is former vice president Mike Pence. Pence had a CNN town hall on Wednesday night, as we reported, and he covered a variety of topics. Again he’s one of these folks I struggle to think what’s going on in his mind. Where’s his constituency? Who is truly jazzed for a Mike Pence run? He’s at 4 percent in a lot of the polls. How does 4 percent get past Trump’s over 50 percent or over DeSantis’ 20 percent? What exactly is he running on?

Not with announcements like this.

I’m a Christian, a Conservative, and a Republican in that order! #Pence2024 pic.twitter.com/Z019YguEFc

— Mike Pence (@Mike_Pence) June 7, 2023

I’m having flashbacks to George W. Bush and his mannerisms, and that’s not a good thing, in this case. It also sounds like he’s trying to reach for something like Ronald Reagan’s “Morning in America” and just not getting there are all. It sounds practiced. Maybe he thinks his lane is with evangelicals. But I’m thinking most of those folks are still going to be with Trump.

The response to that video also had many Republicans accusing him of betraying Trump, which is another reason he doesn’t stand much of a chance. Pence spoke about not pardoning January 6 people and that was also not received well by some.

Here’s a simple announcement that hits what people are concerned about that doesn’t sound canned from another candidate in the race, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC).

Hey @Mike_Pence…This is how you do a campaign launch…#TimScott pic.twitter.com/5E3vKWlPuI

— Sebastian Gorka DrG (@SebGorka) June 8, 2023

That’s talking about what people care about in a straightforward way.

Mike Pence also said something else during the town hall that truly may have finished him off, assuming he ever had any kind of a chance, to begin with. Pence criticized Joe Biden for being “slow” with providing resources to Ukraine.

PENCE: “Joe Biden has been slow in providing military resources to Ukraine.” pic.twitter.com/qJz6s4qIk9

— Breaking911 (@Breaking911) June 8, 2023

Trying to argue that Joe Biden isn’t funneling enough aid fast enough to Ukraine is a quick way to do in your candidacy with the Republican base, most of whom believe that money is being funneled out without any real check and without any end in sight to a country that has a history of corruption. Saying Biden isn’t going far enough will have people running in the other direction, away from Pence, believing this confirms again his neo-con status. This is a remarkable misread of the Republican base. This just shows again why he truly has no chance.

and the .1% chance Pence had to become the Republican candidate just vanished. https://t.co/V7uwQFENpl

CNN to Host Former Vice President Mike Pence in Iowa Town Hall as Presidential Ambitions Mount

May 26, 2023 by Brittany Sheehan Leave a Comment

On Thursday, CNN announced that it will host former Vice President Mike Pence in a town hall to take place in Iowa next month. The town hall will be moderated by CNN’s chief political correspondent Dana Bash. The event is scheduled to take place at Grand View University in Des Moines on Wednesday, June 7, at 9 pm ET.

Pence will answer questions from Bash and live audience members consisting of Iowa Republican voters who have pledged to participate in the critical early state caucuses. This format follows the other two presidential town halls hosted by CNN, featuring GOP candidates Nikki Haley, and the nomination front-runner, former President Donald Trump.

Pence has previously spoken publicly about his relationship with Trump and the events of January 6, both in media interviews and in his memoir. However, his reflections have been somewhat vague and limited. He has described personal dynamics with the former President as having “differences that day.”

In December, Pence stated:

In the days leading up to January 6, the President and I had clashes. I firmly believe that on that day, I fulfilled my duty, guided by God’s grace and the Constitution, to ensure a peaceful transfer of power. However, I felt anger. I was angry about the differences we had that day, and I was also angered by what I witnessed…

Trump’s performance at his CNN-hosted town hall was an impressive showing by the former President as he verbally jostled with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, sparking viral video clips from the event on the internet. To the audience’s delight, fed up with Collin’s interrupting and speaking over him, Trump described the moderator as a “nasty person.” Trump was particularly strong on the issue of the war in Ukraine, saying he doesn’t see it as a matter of winning or losing, but preserving lives, telling Collins:

I want everybody to stop dying. They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying.

Trump claimed that he would end the war within 24 hours of taking office.

Another highlight for many viewers was when the former President “pulled out the receipts” from his suit pocket, consisting of print-outs of his tweets surrounding the events of January 6. Trump plugged his platform Truth Social while highlighting his peaceful directives published to his previously suspended and globally popular Twitter account.

Pence has flirted with but not announced a presidential candidacy. Earlier this month, the former VP indicated that he would make a decision by the end of June, saying:

I expect before the month of June is out, we’ll let people know of our decision. If we choose to go forward, this race doesn’t really start until the August debate in Milwaukee.

Pence was included in recent Iowa polling for probable GOP candidates, conducted from May 19-22 by Emerson College Polling. Pence received five percent of the vote, tying with Nikki Haley behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis with 20 percent, and former President Trump with a 42-point lead at 62 percent.
