Glenn Greenwald Goes to Town on Why Dick and Liz Cheney Hate Trump so Much

I wrote about this insane ad that Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) put out that featured her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney. In the ad, Cheney claims that in the 246-year history of our nation, no individual has posed a greater threat than President Donald Trump.

Now, I noted how unhinged that was, how she’s pulling out the wrong card throwing this out there in the last days of the campaign, thinking that’s somehow going to help her in her campaign in Wyoming. If anything, it will drive people there further away from her thinking that she is truly unhinged, if they already didn’t think that. Dick Cheney also slipped up and made clear that their aim is about keeping Trump from becoming president again, just like the Democrats.

In response, because that serves the anti-Trump Democratic narrative, suddenly some on the left are embracing these comments from Dick Cheney, the man they have demonized like Darth Vader for decades. They don’t care who the person is or what they may have said about him yesterday, it’s all about whether this will serve their power goals today — which are all about getting Trump out of the way for 2024.

It’s all about what will support Democratic power and that’s exactly what the Cheneys are supporting with this effort, whether they acknowledge it or not.

But journalist Glenn Greenwald had a great question about all this: why do the Cheneys hate Trump so? What’s the point of this animosity? Why are they willing to throw in with the Democrats to act like this? The answer is a simple one. As Greenwald observes, Trump came in fighting the neocons, calling out the Bush/Cheney worldview and Jeb!, who the Republicans wanted to win in 2016. He came in talking about wanting to end foreign wars and the things that sustain the security state.

Greenwald said that Trump expelled the “Bush-Cheney” ideology by denouncing them and he won, thereby changing the very nature of the Republican party. That’s why the Cheneys and the Bushes hate Trump, “petty dynastic vengeance,” Greenwald said. Cain notes how “principled” the left is when they align themselves with the neo-conservatives because the neo-conservatives are against Trump.

Things haven’t been the same since Trump showed you can unseat the establishment. That’s why he’s truly “evil” to these people on both sides of the aisle, it has nothing to do with Jan. 6. They hated him way before that, indeed, ever since he won and that’s why. He upset the plan and showed it could be upset. That’s why he has to be crushed so that no one will ever dare to do that again.

But it’s too late — you can’t lock the door after the horse already got out. Not only is Trump out there in the wings. But others who are willing to challenge that neo-con entrances bipartisan establishment are out there and coming as well. And the establishment can’t stop them.

Jonathan Turley Takes Apart Liz Cheney Claim J6 Committee Has 'Much More' to Come

The January 6 Committee has promised since the start of their hearings that they would produce the evidence to nail President Donald Trump. But as anyone can tell you, all they’ve produced is bad television that people have been avoiding like the plague because they know it’s a biased witch hunt. But after nine hearings, they have not produced evidence to support criminal charges, according to George Washington law school professor Jonathan Turley. As he notes, even former prosecutor (and Senator) Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) thought it would be “very tough” to get an indictment legally.

Instead, what we’ve gotten is a witch hunt “show trial” with a controlled Democratic effort, with only Democratic-appointed Trump-hating people on the Committee, with no ability to present anything to rebut the carefully crafted narrative about Trump. Yet, still, they haven’t produced evidence of crimes.

As Turley notes:

As if to fulfill that show trial portrayal, Cheney ended the last hearing by calling for more officials to come forward and noting that Trump family members and former officials have now come forward with their own public “confessions.”

But now Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) — soon to be the ex-Congresswoman from Wyoming — is pulling an “Adam Schiff” and promising that there’s more to come, just as he did during the Russia collusion case.

“The committee has been, I think, very thorough and laying out much of what we know. There’s much more that we have not yet shared in hearings, and we anticipate we will share in the fall. We will also make decisions about criminal referrals, and ultimately the decision about prosecutions is up to the Justice Department, but I would anticipate the committee will have an opinion on that.” [….]

The lack of any balance in the scope of examinations or presentation of evidence only magnifies the appearance of an investigation tailored political rather than investigative priorities.

So now Cheney is saying “stay tuned” once again like a sequel that never quite ends.

Oh, who would have thought? They want to act like there’s something and hold that in suspense for anyone that will fall for it. Then they’ll drop some kind of questionable something just before the midterms in an “October surprise.” As Turley notes, that timing further indicates the political nature of this.

But if the Committee truly had something that could stand up, everyone knows that they would have dropped it already. Because what Cheney and the Committee have made clear is they aim to stop Trump from running again. That’s what this whole exercise is about. Even Dick Cheney admitted it in the new ad that Liz put out for her campaign. This is about dragging out this sorry show as long as they possibly can to try to hurt Trump.

But people haven’t tossed aside Trump — indeed, he’s leading both Biden and Harris in the Harvard Caps/Harris poll that came out this week.

So Cheney and the Committee have completely failed in their efforts.

Desperate Liz Cheney Digs Deep, Throws the Daddy Card With New Video

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) is on the brink of losing very badly in her August primary in Wyoming. Her opponent, Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman, is 22 points ahead of her, at the last count. If she can’t even win her primary, that’s not going to help her chances of winning higher office — the thing that seems to be her ultimate goal. Even CNN ran a hilarious report showing how hated she is now in Wyoming.

Cheney’s getting desperate. However, she created her mess, blowing off the Republicans in her state for the last year. She’s finally seeing the consequences of throwing in with the Democrats and the Jan. 6 Committee. But even what she’s doing in the last days of the campaign shows how clueless she is. Instead of reaching out to Republicans, she’s reached out to Democrats to cross the aisle and vote for her. She’s posted a picture of Democratic actor Kevin Costner wearing a shirt saying, “I’m for Liz Cheney.” Her caption on the tweet said, “Real men choose country over party.” So, she’s even selling a fiction about Costner, while insulting the real men of Wyoming who wouldn’t vote for her.

But now, Cheney’s pulling out her last card — the daddy card.

She’s put out an ad featuring her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, and once again, the move is clueless and goes right to the heart of why people in Wyoming don’t want to vote for her — her obsessive hatred of Donald Trump.

“In our nation’s 246 year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our Republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him,” Dick Cheney says in the one-minute ad, titled “He Knows It.”

“He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters. He lost his election and he lost big. I know it, he knows it and deep down I think most Republicans know it.”

No, being a “coward” is throwing in with the Democrats and not allowing any evidence that rebuts their false narrative about Trump. That’s cowardly.

Then how ridiculous is the hysterical claim that no one has ever been a “greater threat to the Republic” than Trump? This is just historically ignorant of all the threats this country has faced. Not to mention that Trump’s time in office was a paradise, particularly compared to what we are now experiencing under Joe Biden. The failure to understand that Trump isn’t a threat, but the Democrats driving this country to the radical left are an incredibly serious threat, is a great delusion. This is true Trump Derangement Syndrome.

“There is nothing more important she will ever do than lead the effort to make sure Donald Trump is never again near the Oval Office again. And she will succeed. I am Dick Cheney. I proudly voted for my daughter. I hope you will too,” he ends the ad by saying.

There it is. What this is all about. Not “justice.” Not the truth. If it was either of those two things, you’d allow other evidence to rebut your presumptions. It’s always been about preventing Trump from running again. So, she’s doing the work of the Democrats and telling the Republican voters of Wyoming who voted for Trump that this is her aim. How does she think that’s going to work? This not only isn’t going to work with Republicans in Wyoming, but it’s also going to remind Democrats of their hatred for Dick Cheney. So good luck getting their vote.

The “Daddy, help me” gambit isn’t going to work and shows just how desperate she is.
