NPR Goes Into Concerned Hysterics Over Florida Placing the Gadsden Flag on License Plates

August 14, 2022 by Brad Slager Leave a Comment

History be damned, there has to be hatred with a centuries-old flag representing libertarian independence from oppression.

One of the consistently mirthful aspects of covering the media is when I get to sit back and behold as they abandon journalism in an excitable emotional state. You can usually see it coming in the form of some overexcited yet underdeveloped pique of fervency over a topic — when you can practically see the smoke rising off of their keyboard after a flourish of lexicon delivery. Of course, the conflict of facts and feelings is the usual undoing of these writing histrionics.

Mike Miller detailed how the press recoiled at the state of Florida announcing a new license plate, and the indolent thinking continues. This particular version comes from Scott Neuman, at National Public Radio, and he falls prey to a common malady infecting the press at nearly outbreak levels – DeSantis Delusion Complex. The point of infection was a social media post from the governor, and the symptom is the telltale opposition to his actions, absent a pragmatic approach. Governor Ron said something, so he is automatically incorrect and a journalist must scorch him in an appropriate fashion.

The state of Florida legislature passed a bill that will allow residents to select a license plate that features the historic Gadsden flag, that lasting symbol of libertarian independence. Neuman wastes no time placing his ardent opposition on display.

When Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently tweeted an image of what he said was a new state license plate featuring a coiled rattlesnake and the words “Don’t Tread on Me,” he said it sends a “clear message to out-of-state cars.”

Dastardly stuff. How is this man even allowed to govern a state, with that kind of attitude?! Of course, lost in the consternation of his prose, Neuman manages to diminish the fact that these plates are offered up to benefit veterans groups.

The latest fake news hysteria is about the new Gadsden Flag license plate @GovRonDeSantis announced to help Florida veterans in need. Media is smearing this as a “racist”/”domestic terrorist” symbol, which is absurd!

The problem, as Neuman sees it, is in DeSantis embracing this symbol, but early on we get a glimpse of the conflict roiling within the writer. The historical realities of the flag run counter to his own contemporary interpretation of it being a symbol of hate and intolerance. You can almost sense the tension he felt while grappling with this conflict.

The imagery of the Revolutionary War-era Gadsden flag dates to Benjamin Franklin but has, for many, come to symbolize a far-right extremist ideology and the “Stop the Steal” movement that sought to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

This is the infantilism of thought many in the press resort to. Apparently, two and a half centuries of messaging is completely erased, because some stunted mooks left the flag behind in The Rotunda on January 6. Another glossed-over detail is that, as Neuman does allude to a couple of other states, there are actually close to a dozen that have offered these plates to residents, for years now, absent any of this kind of concern-trolling in the press.

Neuman then finds an “expert” to back his attempt at revisionist history, a spokesperson from the Sothern Poverty Law Center who declares the flag has been seen during some causes which were “really awful.” Ah, so some 250 years of symbolism have been completely eclipsed by things they do not like that occurred in the last couple of years.

Now comes the comedic portion of his screed. Credit first, though, to Neuman; he at least sought out other voices to place proper historical context. But then he resorts to focusing on more contemporary influences of the flag’s true meaning, in his estimation.

The Tea Party movement…adopted the banner in 2010 as a sort of catch-all symbol of disgust with government. Since then, it has gone on to become a symbol for anti-government groups and individuals.

Ah Ha! There you have it! The Gadsden flag is offensive and problematic because it is the new representation of anti-government sentiments and the danger that is represented by anyone who dares challenge our duly elected leadership! This is precisely why it is completely wrong for these license plates to be offered up for the residents…uh…by…by the government. Oops, Scott.

Then there is another paradox slyly rearing itself in this piece. If Neuman finds a problem with a governor offering this option, is he not then also joining the forces of those wretched souls opposing the government?! Man, this stuff can get really confusing! Maybe flying off the handle and drawing up a lengthy column of outrage about license plates was the main problem with all of this.

Ted Cruz Drops the Boot on FBI Director Christopher Wray During Hearing

August 4, 2022 by Nick Arama Leave a Comment

Whistleblowers have come forward on how the FBI has been politicized in everything from the Hunter Biden case to allegedly juicing the statistics about domestic extremism.

FBI Director Christopher Wray was testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday and senators asked a variety of questions, including plumbing such things as how the FBI is categorizing things such as “domestic extremism.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said he believed the FBI has been completely politicized, that it began under Barack Obama, metastasized with career officials during the Trump Administration, and is even worse now under Joe Biden. Cruz told Wray he believed that Wray was unwilling to root out the problems.

Then Cruz went to town on Wray over the symbols that the FBI said were indicative of militia violent extremism, according to a Project Veritas report, including the Betsy Ross flag, the Gadsden Flag, and the Gonzales Battle Flag (Come and Take It). This was a thing of beauty by Cruz.

Sen. Ted Cruz to FBI Director Wray: “DOJ has become thoroughly politicized. I think this is a problem that began during the Obama admin. I think it metastasized with career officials during the Trump admin. And I think it continues and is even worse today under the Biden admin.” pic.twitter.com/AzV7C0GC9r

— RenegadeRebelRed (@RenegadeReblRed) August 4, 2022

Cruz pointed out how all those flags are patriotic symbols of our country that are used to this day, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden being sworn in under Betsy Ross flags and the Gadsden flag being used on the license plates of the State of Virginia. For the Gonzales battle flag, Cruz took off his boot and smacked it on the table in front of him, saying he was going to report himself because he wore a Gonzales Battle Flag on the back of his boot every time he wore them in the Senate.

Wray’s response said everything that is wrong with the FBI — he claimed he didn’t know anything about the list and so he couldn’t comment on it. So he doesn’t know if this is true? That’s ignorant. Or he just wants to avoid the question because he’s lying? Ignorant and/or lying — neither is a good look.

The list was supposed to be for internal use only — so once again this was something that wasn’t supposed to get out and we weren’t supposed to know what they were evaluating as “extremism.” No wonder the statistics are padded if you start making such things indicative of extremism.

Cruz then lit into Wray over the conduct of the FBI regarding the Gretchen Whitmer case, noting how two had been acquitted and the other two cases were mistrial amid questions of entrapment. He asked what had been done to address the behavior or discipline any of the FBI involved in that case. Again, Wray evaded the question, saying he couldn’t talk about personnel matters and then saying there might be a retrial as though that would somehow justify the behavior.

Under questioning from Sen. Ted Cruz, FBI Director Chris Wray admits the FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit Field Office who oversaw the Whitmer kidnapping entrapment and “absolute debacle” is now in charge of the Washington, D.C. Office, overseeing the J6 investigation. pic.twitter.com/85Y7QJXeyy

— Steve Guest (@SteveGuest) August 4, 2022

Then Cruz noted how the person who had been in charge of the Detroit field office was now in charge at the Washington field office, overseeing the Jan. 6 cases. So not only would that add yet another concern about how those cases were being handled but that sounds like a promotion or a move up, after being in charge during the Whitmer matter. Cruz pointed out once again, that not only wasn’t there any accountability but the people involved even got moved up.

Good for Cruz and the other senators for taking this on in their oversight capacity. But never has there so been a need to clean out the swamp here, if we are to preserve the very fabric upon which we are built: the impartial application of the rule of law.

Florida's 'Vile' New License Plate Leads to Manufactured 'Controversy' and Tons of Hypocrisy

August 4, 2022 by Mike Miller Leave a Comment

Before we get to the subject at hand, the second half of the headline says everything you need to know about the Democrat Party: manufactured controversy and tons of hypocrisy. Toss in Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and pretty much anything to do with the Sunshine State and we’re talking histrionic meltdown.

The “controversy” began on July 30 when DeSantis announced Florida’s new Gadsden flag license plate, which features the familiar “Don’t Tread on Me” declaration with a curled rattlesnake on a yellow background. According to the governor’s office, as reported by the NBC New affiliate in Tampa, proceeds from the optional plate will benefit Florida veterans in need.

The free state of Florida has a new license plate for pre-order that benefits the Florida Veterans Foundation and sends a clear message to out-of-state cars, “Don’t Tread on Me” or Florida.

Controversial?

First, the controversy.

In the early 2000s, the flag’s meaning became increasingly politicized after it was adopted by conservative and libertarian groups and their platforms for small government and lower taxes. Left-wingers being left-wingers, it didn’t take long until the Gadsden was declared a symbol of insurrection and hate — particularly during the Trump administration and in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election.

How far did the delusional left take it? This far:

They went as far as placing the Gadsden flag on the fbi [sic] domestic terrorist list along with the Colonial Flag, crazy 🥴 pic.twitter.com/yYC7VGr9uz

— Mike Smitty 🇺🇸 (@gettinolda) August 3, 2022

“Crazy” doesn’t even begin to describe it.

The truth about the Gadsden flag.

As noted by Patriot World, the true history of the Gadsen flag is far from controversial — unless you’re an America-loathing leftist hellbent on destroying this country as we know it, that is.

Christopher Gadsden was an American patriot. He led Sons of Liberty in South Carolina starting in 1765, and was later made a colonel in the Continental Army. In 1775, he was in Philadelphia representing his home state in the Continental Congress. He was also one of three members of the Marine Committee.

Gadsden, who was often called “the Sam Adams of the South,” was a delegate to the Stamp Act Congress, delegate to the First and Second Continental Congresses, and commander of the 1st South Carolina Regiment of the Continental Army. Both he and Franklin were staunch American patriots.

Gadsden presented a copy of his flag to his state legislature in Charleston. As recorded in the South Carolina congressional journals:

“Col. Gadsden presented to the Congress an elegant standard, such as is to be used by the commander in chief of the American navy; being a yellow field, with a lively representation of a rattle-snake in the middle, in the attitude of going to strike, and these words underneath, “Don’t Tread on Me!”

The Gadsden was designed to convey a patriotic message — not a racist one.

Gadsden presented one of his flags to friend and colleague, Benjamin Franklin, who then wrote about the flag’s symbolism, noting that the rattlesnake was “found in no other quarter of the world besides America,” the rattler “never begins an attack, nor when once engaged, ever surrenders.” Franklin also pointed to the snake’s rattle, which represented the number of colonies in America.

Nonetheless, the left-wing meltdown began, as tweeted by DeSantis spokesperson Christina Pushaw.

The latest fake news hysteria is about the new Gadsden Flag license plate @GovRonDeSantis announced to help Florida veterans in need. Media is smearing this as a “racist”/”domestic terrorist” symbol, which is absurd!

The “smearing,” of course, whipped up by left-wing media sock puppets.

One of the best ridiculous responses shockingly came from a Florida teacher.

Stop calling us the free state of Florida, if that were true I’d be able to do my job as a teacher and create a safe space for all kids.

Really? Nothing quite says “safe space” like the insidiousness of left-wing indoctrination that continues to metastasize in America’s public schools, beginning with kindergartners in many cases.

Stop calling us the free state of Florida, if that were true I’d be able to do my job as a teacher and create a safe space for all kids

— Chris Bowers (@chrisgbowers) July 30, 2022

And what, exactly, is your “job as a teacher,” Chris? To “teach” (indoctrinate) children about their “inherent racism,” “systemic racism,” and “white supremacy”? Marxist-derived critical race theory”? To “teach” little boys that they “can be girls, too”? Gender fluidity? Gender self-identification? Please.

Hypocrisy reigns supreme on the left.

Florida is hardly the first state in the Union to roll out a Gadsden flag license plate, including Virginia, whose two prior governors (Ralph Northam and Terry McAuliffe) were Democrats. And from the left? Crickets.

Uh oh. Wait until hear about the plates we’ve had in Virginia for about a decade now. pic.twitter.com/Hsj1mrtvPN

— Garren Shipley (@GarrenShipley) August 3, 2022

Other states where the Gadsden flag license plates are available include Alabama, Arizona, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Huh. You don’t suppose the fact that Florida just happens to be run by Ron DeSantis has anything to do with the manufactured controversy and blatant hypocrisy, do you?
