BREAKING: Driver of Van Reportedly Linked to Monterey Park Shooting Dead After Standoff

January 22, 2023 by Jennifer Van Laar Leave a Comment

Late Sunday morning, officials in Los Angeles County released a photo of the man suspected of murdering 10 people and injuring 10 more in Monterey Park, and Sheriff Robert Luna confirmed in a subsequent press conference that he believes the mass shooting and an incident immediately afterward in Alhambra are connected.

Sheriff confirms he believes the Alhambra incident and Monterey Park mass shooting are connected. Again, here is a picture of the suspect. They say consider him armed and dangerous. There is also a possible barricaded suspect situation unfolding in Torrance. @FOXLA pic.twitter.com/lgfzyA40wN

— Christina Pascucci (@PascucciNews) January 22, 2023

The man is described as between 30 and 50 years old, approximately 5’10” tall and weighing 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket and a beanie.

In addition, Luna said that a then-ongoing barricade situation nearly 30 miles away in Torrance was believed to be connected. In the earlier press conference, Luna reported that the suspect in the Alhambra attempted shooting fled in a white cargo van and described it as “a van of interest.” Shortly thereafter police in Torrance boxed in a white cargo van found in a parking lot near the Del Amo Fashion Center, and SWAT teams and other tactical units surrounded it for more than an hour before moving in. Just prior to the time of publication, the SWAT team moved in and officials said that activity at the scene was “over.”

— TV News Now (@TVNewsNow) January 22, 2023

Witnesses at the scene say that the driver was dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but the driver’s condition has not been confirmed by officials at this time.

Also, at the time of publication, a second standoff situation was unfolding about five blocks from the original standoff with another white cargo van.

During the press conference, Luna refused to give additional information about the condition or location of the victims wounded in the shootout. He explained that after the first press conference, in which the names of hospitals victims were taken to was given, one hospital received a phone call from a person naming one of the victims and saying that they were going to “finish the job.”

Luna also said that officials have not determined how many perpetrators might be involved in the incidents.

Los Angeles Rams Tells Fans to Donate to Democrat Anti-Gun Group Following Mass Shooting

January 22, 2023 by Kira Davis Leave a Comment

A tragic and reprehensible mass shooting on Saturday night, in the Los Angeles County city of Monterey Park, has prompted expressions of concern and condolences from across California and the nation.

Among those offering condolences is the Los Angeles Rams football team. The organization took to social media to offer solidarity with the Monterey Park community and all those celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year, which is the celebration that was happening when the violence unfolded.

We are devastated by the mass shooting last night amidst a celebration of Lunar New Year in Monterey Park. Our hearts are with the victims and the survivors, as well as their loved ones and the communities who are affected by this senseless tragedy due to gun violence.

— Los Angeles Rams (@RamsNFL) January 22, 2023

That sentiment should have been (and is) enough (even with the gun violence bit thrown in for good measure), but in California, there is no such thing as “too far.” The Rams decided to push it a step further and promote the anti-second amendment group Everytown for Gun Safety, as if guns are Los Angeles’ problem, not unchecked criminal behavior and soft-on-crime policies.

If you are looking to support those working to end gun violence like Everytown for Gun Safety, text ACT to 644-33 to join the millions of Americans fighting to #EndGunViolence in our country.

— Los Angeles Rams (@RamsNFL) January 22, 2023

Everytown for Gun Safety is an anti-second amendment activist group founded by billionaire Michael Bloomberg, who was also the mayor of one of the most violent cities in America. It is also a Democrat political organization, having pledged over $60 million dollars to Democrat candidates in the 2020 election season. They continue to work to influence elections and elected officials toward their anti-second amendment agenda.

That is all well and good. They are not secretive about their mission, nor should they be. Certainly there are plenty of people within the Los Angeles Rams organization who align with Everytown’s values, and many fans as well. To be sure, there are also plenty of employees and fans who value their second amendment rights, and find activist groups like Bloomberg’s quite objectionable.

Paired with the fact that the Los Angeles has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, and simultaneously some of the highest gun crime rates in the nation, it only seems like common sense that a football team might want to hold off on politicizing a tragic event and then using it to fundraise for a politically partisan group.

Sports bring Americans together, particularly at this time of the year when many of us are glued to our televisions and other streaming devices, invested in the outcome of football playoffs on the way to the biggest sporting event in the country. The Rams could have used this opportunity to foster that same sense of togetherness during a tough time, certainly as we await the details of this tragedy.

There are a myriad of charities the Rams organization could have encouraged Americans to donate towards, ones that don’t actively campaign for one political party or another. In this case it is the very political party who’s policies and “defund the police” platforms have led to this rash of crime plaguing innocent Americans.

The Los Angeles Rams join many other professional sports teams who seem to be actively trying to repulse their most loyal fans.

BREAKING: Mass Shooting at Lunar New Festival in Monterey Park, CA

January 22, 2023 by Jennifer Van Laar Leave a Comment

According to multiple news reports, more than a dozen people were shot, many fatally, at the conclusion of the first day of the Lunar New Year festival in Monterey Park, California, about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

Pete Demetriou from KNX News reported that preliminary indications are that 16 people were shot with as many as 10 dead.

— Pete Demetriou (@knxpete) January 22, 2023

KNX notes that numbers of dead and injured are not confirmed by officials at this time, and are based on police scanner traffic.

According to census statistics, about 65 percent of Monterey Park’s 60,000 residents are of Asian descent. The small city has reportedly requested assistance from neighboring cities in responding to the crisis.

Nearby agencies were assisting the Monterey Park police and fire departments. According to video from the scene and broadcast reports, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s investigators, El Monte and Alhambra police and South Pasadena fire personnel were on scene.

— Emily Holshouser (@emilyytayylor) January 22, 2023

According to the Los Angeles Times, one law enforcement source said “the casualty count totaled more than a dozen people.” A restaurant proprietor shared a harrowing story:

Seung Won Choi, who owns the Clam House seafood barbecue restaurant across the street from where the shooting happened, said three people rushed into his restaurant and told him to lock the door. They told him that there was a man with a machine gun in the area.

The people also told Choi that the shooter had multiple rounds of ammunition on him, so that once his ammunition ran out, the shooter reloaded.

Choi said he believes the shooting took place at a dance club in the area.

The shooting took place sometime after 10 p.m. near the site of a Chinese Lunar New Year celebration. Tens of thousands had gathered Saturday for the start of a two-day festival, one of the largest Lunar New Year events in the region.

John, 27, who declined to give his last name, lives near the shooting site. He got home around 10 p.m. and heard about 4 or 5 gunshots, he said. Then he heard police cruisers “smashing” down the street. He went downstairs at around 11:20 p.m. to see if the shooting occurred at the New Year festival.

As of the time of publication, there is no information available about the assailant.

This is breaking news story. We will post updates as more information becomes available.

Jose Huizar’s Plea Is a Final Nail in the Coffin to the Old Guard of Los Angeles City Corruption

January 21, 2023 by Jennifer Oliver OConnell Leave a Comment

The opinions expressed by contributors are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of RedState.com.

It’s the end of an era in Los Angeles politics, and not a good one. While the rampant corruption that has plagued City Hall appears to be getting its comeuppance, it is being replaced by the drumbeat of socialist activism, including the city’s new mayor.

Since his City Council days, former mayor Eric Garcetti made an art form from this corruption, until he reached the end of his tether. Now on the road of disgrace, he is currently begging for an ambassadorship to India from an administration that, despite their protestations and the re-submission of his application, simply want to be rid of him. Garcetti is still plagued by his complicity in the alleged sexual harassment of his former advisor Rick Jacobs–allegations corroborated by Garcetti’s former communications director Naomi Seligman, who is also suing Jacobs and the City of Los Angeles. Even with the walls closing in, Garcetti still tacitly denies he had any knowledge of Jacobs’ harassment.

His Chief Communications Officer Dae Levine said: “No new facts were uncovered in this report, and Mayor Garcetti strongly reaffirms the simple truth that he never witnessed or was made aware of sexual harassment. The opinion reached in the report does not reflect the truth about the experiences of so many people who have testified under oath and spoken candidly to the senator’s office. It is based solely on false, repackaged allegations that have been proven false by multiple unbiased investigations and reviews.”

Like a domino effect, the elected officials with filthy hands from decades of corruption are falling. Garcetti’s former chief of staff and protégé, Mitch O’Farrell was voted out of his formerly cozy, CD 13 council seat (by DSA-backed Hugo Soto-Martinez), and his compatriot Mitch Englander is stewing in prison after pleading guilty to bribery and fraud.

End of an era indeed, and another compatriot, former CD 14 councilman Jose Huizar’s recent plea deal looks to be another nail in that coffin.

Former Los Angeles City Councilman José Huizar pleaded guilty on Friday, Jan. 21 [sic], to two federal charges stemming from a City Hall-based bribery and money laundering scheme in which he took more than $1.5 million in cash, gambling trips and escorts in exchange for his support of a planned downtown hotel project.

Huizar pleaded guilty in downtown Los Angeles to racketeering conspiracy and tax evasion. The charges could carry a sentence of up to 25 years behind bars, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The plea agreement, which was filed Thursday in Los Angeles federal court, says the ex-councilman agreed to a prison sentence of no less than nine years, but prosecutors said they will request a 13-year term in federal prison.

Huizar will also be ordered to pay restitution of about $1.85 million, the document states.

U.S. District Judge John Walter scheduled sentencing for April 3.

It took them 90 minutes to read through the laundry list of charges and the trail of corrupt deeds Huizar left in his wake.

According to a 42-page factual basis for his plea, Huizar, as an elected member of the City Council, led a criminal enterprise in which he used his position at City Hall to enrich himself and his associates, and unlawfully gave favorable treatment to developers who financed and facilitated bribes and other illicit financial benefits.

In addition to the RICO conspiracy, Huizar’s plea agreement describes instances of honest services wire and mail fraud, traveling interstate in aid of racketeering, bribery, money laundering, making false statements and tax evasion.

Huizar, 54, of Boyle Heights, initialed each page of the document.

Two trials already arising out of the indictment against Huizar and his associates have ended in convictions.

Los Angeles, a once model city, is officially gutted, and these corruption convictions are the final bombs dropped. In the wake of the LAtinX Scandal, two seats on the City Council have already been overtaken by Democrat Socialists of America-backed members. Eunisses Hernandez divested CD 01 from Gil Cedillo’s grasp, even before his complicity in the racist scandal was discovered. Also wrapped up in the LAtinX Scandal, and the man who took Huizar’s place in CD 14, refuses to resign; his pension and, aside from his involvement in that conversation, his own corrupt dealings remain under wraps… for now.

I still can’t believe that L.A. voters elected a blatant racist who refuses to step down because he won’t give up his cushy salary. https://t.co/Tm9fnyAeM4

— Gud Trouble (@GudTroubl2) January 21, 2023

New Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass was in D.C. last week for the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting. On top of being one of the speakers, she was there to beg the Biden administration for federal money for her homelessness initiatives. As if billions have not already been poured into the blight, which only grows worse. So, while one era of corruption is being buried, a new one is rising in its wake.

Street Justice Comes Calling for One of George Gascón’s Coddled Criminals

January 20, 2023 by Jennifer Oliver OConnell Leave a Comment

The opinions expressed by contributors are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of RedState.com.

In August 2021, under the ever unfolding nightmare of crime under woke Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, a mother and her baby were almost mowed down by a teenage driver who was high on drugs, and purposely aimed his moving car at them. This teenage driver was not only out on parole for a prior crime, but under Gascón’s soft-on-crime policies, he only received a 5-month sentence in a “diversionary program” … whatever that means.

My colleague Bob Hoge reported on this joke of a sentence.

A Los Angeles teen convicted of plowing a car into a mother and her 8-month-old son in a drug-fueled hit-and-run will spend just five months in a “diversionary program” thanks to soft on crime LA County District Attorney George Gascon. The teen’s record will reportedly be wiped clean when he turns 18.

That’s not justice, that’s a joke.

The 16-year-old driver was driving down a one-way street in the wrong direction in Venice, California when he appeared to rev his engine and purposely aim the car at the victims in the shocking August, 2021 crime. He then tried to drive away from the scene but was stopped when a pickup truck purposefully crashed into his car, forcing him into a pole. (No word on who the apparent Good Samaritan was.)

Luckily both the mother Rachel and her baby Charlie survived the vicious, apparently random, attack.

Bob also reported on Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin’s uncovering of the delinquent’s probationary status.

Fox News’s Bill Melugin reported Sunday that the teen driver who received a light sentence after his drug-fueled car attack on a mother and her baby was on parole and was actually violating it at the time of the attack.

“Per multiple law enforcement sources, the juvie was on probation, & violating it, at the time of this hit & run, and he had been previously convicted of felony poisoning after he spiked a teen girl’s drink at Palmdale high school in 2019. She was hospitalized.”

This is no teen angel who made a bad choice. He poisoned a girl so badly she had to be hospitalized, and now has run over two innocent victims who are incredibly lucky to be alive. This is a dangerous psychopath who should be behind bars.

This new revelation is sure to provoke further outrage.

It did, but this is Los Angeles, so any outcry against the insanity is akin to screaming into the void. The mother Rachel said she voted for Gascón because she believed in his “criminal justice reform.” But Rachel was so outraged that she took to “Tucker Carlson Tonight” to voice her displeasure:

Watch the latest video at foxnews.com

“It sends messages to criminals that it’s okay to do bad things, because we are not going to punish you, we will punish the victims instead,” she said.

She continued, “I’m just beside myself with the comments that [Gascon] has come out with on Twitter citing that California law says that the punishment is fair, when in fact it is his policies that he put in a place that prevents us from getting appropriate justice.”

Street justice seems to be about the only justice that is working in Los Angeles these days. Whether it was that, or divine retribution, either way it came calling for this deranged young man.

From Fox News:

A Los Angeles 17-year-old who ran over a mother walking her baby in a stroller in 2021 and received just a few months of diversionary camp as punishment was gunned down in Palmdale, California, this week.

Kristopher Baca, whom Fox News Digital has previously not identified due to his youth, pleaded guilty to the hit-and-run last year.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office confirmed his death Friday but said the examination was still pending.

Deputies found him dead with gunshot wounds in a Palmdale driveway on the 83600 block of 11th Street East on Wednesday evening, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sources close to the investigation said he had been at a fast food restaurant earlier trying to “get with a girl.”

As he walked home alone, a car pulled up next to him and an argument broke out. Someone in the vehicle opened fire, then sped off.

The mother Rachel, who like many, has absconded Los Angeles County to get away from Gascón and his policies, was interviewed by Fox News Digital after news of Baca’s murder. Rachel voiced what any normal person would be thinking.

She told Fox News Digital on Friday that her husband was out of town when she heard the news, and she had to mull it over alone. She said she was both relieved and saddened by the news.

“The universe delivered the justice we weren’t given in court, but a much harsher punishment than he’d have been dealt in a court of law,” she said.

Boom.

Or as my mother used to say, “Good riddance to bad rubbish.”
