Media Loses It Over New York Rangers Not Wearing Special Jerseys on Pride Night

January 28, 2023 by Jerry Wilson Leave a Comment

Here at the sports desk located somewhere below decks of the Good Pirate Ship RedState, assuming we can get Sammy the Shark to stop doing backflips after the January 28th victory by Los Tiburones de San Josè over Los Pingüinos de Pittsburgh, time to look at the newest sports non-controversy. Namely, the New York Rangers not plastering rainbows on their practice jerseys prior to their home game against the Vegas Golden Knights on January 27th. From the New York Post:

The Garden and the Rangers hosted their seventh annual Pride Night on Friday, but contrary to what they initially advertised, the team did not wear special warm-up jerseys or utilize pride-themed tape.

One player told The Post that he just saw the regular Lady Liberty jersey hanging in his locker and he did not know why the Rangers did not wear the originally planned warm-ups, which they have worn in the past “in solidarity with those who continue to advocate for inclusivity.”

The seemingly reversed decision came in wake of Philadelphia defenseman Ivan Provorov’s refusal to wear Pride-themed apparel on the Flyers’ Pride Night on Jan. 19. The Russian cited his religious beliefs as his reasoning.

Reuters noted that it wasn’t like the Rangers ignored the entire matter.

A pre-game advertisement showed Rangers made other gestures in support of Pride Night, including a charitable donation to a group that supports homeless LGBTQ+ youth, and Madison Square Garden was illuminated in rainbow lights during the game.

Since Reuters is, well, Reuters, they had to add some “context.”

Asked for comment on Saturday, the NHL referred Reuters to a previous statement made in regard to Provorov.

“Clubs decide whom to celebrate, when and how – with league counsel and support. Players are free to decide which initiatives to support, and we continue to encourage their voices and perspectives on social and cultural issues,” it said.

Translation: call Rangers owner James Dolan; we’re busy.

New York Post columnist Mollie Walker was nonplussed.

By veering from their promoted plan to wear Pride-themed jerseys for their annual Pride Night on Friday at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers turned what was otherwise a beautiful celebration of inclusivity into a story about the organization.

It’s ironic that the reversed decision to forgo the special warm-ups and tape was presumably made to avoid a public relations mess. Instead, that’s exactly what has happened. After making a public promise that the team would don the rainbow colors of the Pride flag “in solidarity” with the LGBTQ+ community, and then walking back on it, what did the organization think would happen? There were fans who purchased their tickets to see themselves represented on the ice, and they were left disappointed.

However, as noted above, it’s not like the Rangers ignored the night.

Broadway star Michael James Scott, who is gay, sang a goosebump-inciting rendition of the national anthem. Andre Thomas, the co-chair of NYC Pride and Heritage of Pride, participated in the ceremonial puck drop. Fans received a Pride-themed fanny pack, while the pinwheel ceiling and panels on the outside of the Garden were illuminated in the rainbow colors.

The Rangers have also promised to make a charitable contribution to the Ali Forney Center, a New York-based agency dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ homeless youths. The center assists more than 2,000 youths per year through a 24-hour Drop-In Center, which provides more than 70,000 meals annually, medical, and mental health services through an on-site clinic, and a scattered-site housing program.

But … but … YOU DIDN’T WEAR RAINBOWS ON YOUR JERSEYS!

Let’s turn this on its side. If an NHL team held a Faith and Family Night, as part of the event placing an ichthus on the team’s warm-up jerseys, and a player said I’m not wearing that, how would the sports media world respond? The columns would write themselves. “How DARE a team push religion!” Plus a plethora of laudatory prose on behalf of the player’s heroic stance, never mind that the brave atheist cliché grew stale sometime around 1967.

Quoting from our Sister Toldjah from a January 20th post she wrote about Philadelphia Flyers Ivan Provorov refusing to wear a Pride Night warm-up jersey:

The ensuing sports media uproar earned Provorov a surprising defense from TikToker Clarkson Lawson, a gay man who ended up ripping the “Alphabet Mafia” over their dictatorial-like tactics against those who don’t wholeheartedly wrap themselves in the rainbow flag in a video that to date has over 2.5 million views.

“The fact that we have this incessant need for validation shows that we’re not actually secure in who we are,” Lawson stated. “We don’t need a pride night or a pride month. Just live your life, be happy with who you are, and stop trying to so hard to garner validation from people who are not going to give it to you.”

“Our acceptance of ourselves should not be contingent on other people agreeing with us,” Lawson went on to say. “If you truly want to be happy with who you are, find validation from within. Your life will be way better off because of it.”

‘Nuff said.

Seriously, will these people ever learn why we’re tired of their whining? Grow up. The rest of us are under no obligation to rearrange our universe based on someone else’s sexual preference. Leave someone alone and in peace to be themselves? Absolutely. But leave us alone as well.

Adapt

January 28, 2023 by Kira Davis Leave a Comment

No one likes to feel uncomfortable.

Scratch that. Those weird people who climb radio towers and abandoned buildings and then hang off the side for YouTube views and TikTok clicks – those people seem to enjoy being uncomfortable.

For the rest of us, being uncomfortable is…well…an uncomfortable feeling.

For conservatives, being uncomfortable can often be something we avoid at nearly all costs. The American Dream for most of us embraces the notion of being comfortable in our lifestyle, our community, and within our families. Even if it’s not exactly apple pie and picket fences that we want individually, we all strive for the peace they represent.

Unfortunately, these days aren’t very peaceful. The progressive left has decided that peace is racist, sexist, homophobic and a bunch of other made-up words that mean you suck. You will be made to care, or you will be erased.

It’s an uncomfortable time to be a conservative. If you object to pornographic materials in your child’s classroom, you’re a domestic terrorist. If you say a man can’t biologically be a woman, you’re a bigot. If you say you’d like to see a few years’ worth of studies before you allow the government to force an experimental vaccine into your body, you’re a science denier.

We’ve seen adult children turn against their own parents simply because those parents voted for a man none of them even know personally. We’ve seen black Americans be denied service in restaurants by white liberals, simply for having the audacity to be conservative. Progressives feel quite comfortable using horrendous terms like “nazi” and “terrorist” to describe their fellow Americans who have done nothing but verbalize differing opinions.

We no longer live in the age of Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neil, political archrivals sitting down for a glass of whiskey at the end of the day simply to enjoy each other’s company as friends. Nowadays, to befriend someone on the other side of the aisle is tantamount to treason. They have deemed half this country evil, and the fallout has been brutal.

It’s been disheartening, and conservatives have plenty to complain about, certainly.

But complaining isn’t getting us anywhere. It’s time to stop whining and start doing. This is a new era in politics. It is ugly, brutal, and often childish. Conservatives have traditionally responded by retreating. We keep allowing the progressive left to seize more territory, as we shrink ours. We depart from entertainment culture, calling it too trashy. We depart from public schools, calling them hopelessly overrun. We depart from our local political positions, calling it a waste of time. We’ve left so much to the left, then we turn around and lament how much of American culture they own.

Charles Darwin wrote, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.”

For everything he was wrong about, he was surely right about this. Especially when it comes to political survival.

Conservatives have not yet adapted to this new cultural reality. Too many of us are playing by the old rules of decorum and agreeability. We don’t want to be uncomfortable, nor do we really wish to make others uncomfortable. We want to be left alone to live our lives, and to ignore people who live their lives in ways we might not appreciate (as they can ignore us).

That is no longer an option.  The landscape has changed, and so must our maps. We are navigating a completely different kind of world than our grandparents and parents. We’ve let our agreeability push us out of nearly all of the most influential aspects of our society. When it is more publicly celebrated to have a “pride” flag in a second-grade classroom than an American flag, we have a problem.

It’s time for us to adapt to this new landscape. It’s no use lamenting the way things used to be. It’s time to accept the way things are and develop a strategy to wrestle back the culture. We can do it. It’s not too late. Look at what parents across the country have been able to do in their public schools. Thousands of parents won seats on their school boards, and are now making cultural changes big and small. It’s not the whole war, but it is an important battlefront.

Conservatives can’t be afraid to make other people uncomfortable. We can’t be afraid to be uncomfortable ourselves. The other side has no intentions of obeying the rules, so let’s adjust and respond accordingly.

That means being bolder about our opinions. It means getting involved at a local level – at your school board meetings, city council meetings, even parade planning committees. Anywhere public plans are being made, conservatives need to get involved.

It also means supporting entertainment and media that pulls away from progressive strongholds. Just today, I canceled my DirectTV subscription after discovering they’d dropped Newsmax from their lineup (very conveniently, just as we start the ramp-up for the 2024 elections). That’s an enormous savings for my bank account, and now I can direct that money to content creators who are doing the jobs the mainstream media refuses to do. This new golden age of direct engagement allows us to pick and choose exactly who we want to support with our dollars. We can subscribe to the newsletters of our favorite reporters and personalities, patronize our favorite Rumble channels, and support the efforts of conservative outlets (like ours) to circumvent the traditional ad model and avoid the censorship traps set by Big Tech.

That’s why we here at RedState offer our VIP program. It keeps us independent, and assures we can continue to expose the lies of the progressive media and add to the national conversation without fear of retribution. It helps us protect free speech.

So I’ll end with this…you can be a part of helping us adapt to this new reality and this changing future. The left thinks this is the right wing of thirty years ago. They are not prepared for the moves we are making. Let’s keep surprising them.

Each RedState VIP and VIP Gold membership lessens our reliance on Big Tech and allows us to continue this critical work. We know that the Biden economy is affecting everyone’s bottom line, so with the promo code SAVEAMERICA you’ll get 40% off your VIP membership.

By becoming a RedState VIP member, you’ll not only directly support us in changing minds and winning those ideological battles, but you’ll also get exclusive columns and videos from Andrew Malcolm, Jeff Charles, myself, and more.

P.S. – While VIP members have access to a wealth of exclusive content, VIP Gold subscribers get even more. With VIP Gold, not only is your direct support doubled, but VIP Gold members have Gold access across the entire Townhall Media family (Townhall, RedState, PJ Media, and more) – a nearly $300 value.

Peter Doocy Wins Another Round of ‘Stump the Press Secretary’ During Daily Briefing

January 23, 2023 by Sister Toldjah Leave a Comment

Watching Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy wind-up press secretaries in the Biden administration never gets old, and Monday was no exception to that rule.

As we previously reported, Doocy has been one of the most dogged members of the White House press corps concerning Joe Biden’s classified documents scandal, a situation that got even worse over the weekend when even more documents including some from his time in the Senate were discovered at his Wilmington, Delaware home despite the American people being told multiple times Thursday by press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre that the search was “complete.”

During Monday’s daily press briefing, Doocy once again got several questions in to Jean-Pierre on the subject, and she struggled to come up with coherent answers every time he did so. While that’s not exactly anything new for Jean-Pierre, she came across as more flummoxed than normal, which is not surprising considering she’s the face of the administration and has been called out by numerous reporters over the last two weeks for not being honest about the particulars of the developments in the classified documents saga.

In his first question, Doocy – perhaps with the understanding in mind that Jean-Pierre was going to have to get even more creative in coming up with more excuses considering Saturday’s news – asked her what “four-letter word” did she let out when she heard that more documents had been found. She was clearly taken aback by the question and just laughed. He then asked her to confirm if Biden was indeed intending to run for president again:

DOOCY: “When you found out that the FBI had located even more classified materials in Wilmington, which four letter word did you use?”

KJP: “Oh my goodness, Peter…” pic.twitter.com/yCaApt7nHw

— Townhall.com (@townhallcom) January 23, 2023

After she affirmed that he had every intention of doing so, Doocy inquired as to if she was aware if there was “precedent” for someone running for president after the FBI has searched their home. As KJP dodged, Doocy made sure to point out to her what a “big deal” it was for a president’s home to be searched by the FBI. She ended up pivoting to talking points about what Biden was doing for the American people, yada yada:

DOOCY: “Is there a precedent, for people running for president after FBI agents raid their sock drawer?”

KJP: “It sounds like you already know the answer to that question…”

DOOCY: “An FBI search of a president’s residence is a big, big deal!” pic.twitter.com/0B8ZgwLa8d

— Townhall.com (@townhallcom) January 23, 2023

Doocy also pointed out that House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer indicated that what’s going on right now has “all the makings of a potential cover-up.” When he asked Jean-Pierre if that’s what Biden was doing, she paused for a few seconds before defaulting to her standard answer, which was to lie and say that Biden is taking this “very seriously”:

DOOCY: “Is President Biden involved in a cover-up?”

KJP: “He takes this very seriously…You asked me kind of a question that everybody laughed at, which was an interesting question to ask…” pic.twitter.com/lbCB4xBzT1

— Townhall.com (@townhallcom) January 23, 2023

Here’s the full exchange between the two on all of the questions just to get a better idea of how clueless Biden’s spokesperson came across during the briefing:

Doocy CHECKMATES Biden’s @PressSec with question she doesn’t want to answer.

READ: https://t.co/vctrhkX1Xr pic.twitter.com/mrIL6qHtSp

— Washington Examiner (@dcexaminer) January 23, 2023

On one had I sort of feel sorry for Biden’s press secretaries considering the material they have to work with. But they sign on for the job in advance knowing what they could be in for, so they deserve these types of grillings every time they step to the podium. It’s just too bad that they get paid with our tax dollars to insult our intelligence every day.

Adam Schiff Steps on Another Rake Claiming ‘AAPI Bigotry’ in the Monterey Park Shooting

January 23, 2023 by Jim Thompson Leave a Comment

The opinions expressed by contributors are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of RedState.com.

Over the past six years, Adam Schiff has been the poster boy for abuse of power and lying without consequence. Schiff knew that the Steele dossier was nothing more than oppo-research funded by the DNC and Clinton’s campaign hacks. Nonetheless, he consistently claimed it was evidence of Trump’s wrongdoing. Schiff claimed he had the goods on Trump and would reveal his hard evidence “soon.” He had to hold back because national security was at risk. But “soon” never came because Schiff never had the evidence. In fact, he had proof of the opposite. In short, he lied. Schiff was told early in the investigation, and by multiple intelligence sources, including the FBI, NSA, and the DOJ that there was no link of collusion between Russia and Trump’s campaign, but Schiff continued to claim there was. He had the goods we were told. He didn’t present his “bombshells” as possibilities – they were hard “facts.” Except they weren’t. They never were. Schiff made it up.

When Schiff was chairing the House Intelligence Committee in 2019, he made up what Trump said in his call to Zelensky. Schiff only called it “in part, parody” when his nonsense was called out by another committee member. Media dutifully called it “parody.” Schiff loves to fire up his base with feckless lies. Lying and inventing falsehoods to fit a narrative and energize his base of haters is what he does. It’s what he is good at.

When the Monterey Park shooting victims were still lying on the ground, and survivors were still in surgery, Adam Schiff was pulling a shifty, again. He was making up facts. Schiff was lying, again.

Schiff tweeted:

As usual, your tweet is misleading and shamelessly dishonest.

By the way, the Russia collusion docs you said you have in your possession?

Now might be a good time to confess you were lying and apologize.

— David Wohl (@DavidWohl) January 22, 2023

Schiff was fileted on Twitter, but having facts thrown in his face — or stepping on rakes — never mattered to Schiff. Of course, Schiff had no evidence of racial bigotry. How could he? The victims were Asian, and so was the (alleged) shooter, but facts have never mattered to Adam Schiff. He’s a shameless hack. A panderer. A liar of the first order.

Is it any wonder Speaker McCarthy intends to reject Adam Schiff’s nomination to the House Intelligence Committee? Why allow a known liar to sit on any committee let alone one of the most impactful?

If voters won’t take him out of Congress, the least that can be done is disempower him.
