Pulitzer Prize Dis-Honors: The Washington Post’s Crusty Pizza Hit

September 27, 2023 by Brad Slager Leave a Comment

As an extension of the media-mocking venture at Townhall, Riffed From the Headlines, we once again note the sub-exalted performances from our journalism industry in numerous categories to properly recognize the low-water mark in the press.

After all the exposure behind this, it just HAD to be included. This is the famed piece that was crafted to perform a hitjob on Dave Portnoy and hopefully bring some controversy down on his One Bite Pizzafest. After he revealed the bias that went into this laughably bad entry it would have been understandable had the Post just spiked the article. The editors should have done so.

The article strains to paint Portnoy in the worst light possible, it highlights a mathemetician (with a fraction of Portnoy’s pizza review followers) who calls himself “the conscience of the food industry” in order to deliver more contempt, and in the end the paper had to make a cold admission: Despite their efforts, nobody pulled out of Portnoy’s pizza fest.

This weekend, New York will host Dave Portnoy’s One Bite Pizza Festival.

Participating pizzerias have had to navigate buzz around the festival and backlash against the Barstool Sports founder’s controversial remarks and allegations of sexual misconduct. https://t.co/v2XqLxkJwg

We are not even sure what is going on here. Is she trying to cancel Elon’s grandfather? Is Musk supposed to be held guilty for the sins not of his father’s father?? It is all very daft.

Lepore heard that Walter Isaacson was about to release his biography of Elon Musk and she saw a problem; his anti-semitic racist grandfather was not featured enough! Well, fear not, as Ms. Lepore was more than willing to dispense with all of the dirty laundry of the man who absolutely had the barest of influences on the billionaire’s life, given he passed away when Elon was but three years old.

The reason that most people don’t know about Musk’s grandfather’s political writings is that in his lifetime social media did not exist. Elon Musk’s grandfather’s political views are not Musk’s responsibility. But what would happen to those rantings, if they were posted on X today, really does lie at his doorstep.

It is perplexing enough to contemplate who exactly would be inspired to look deeper into this entry about Cher eschewing the consumption of cheese over three decades ago. But when you see this comes from the financial network CNBC it becomes even more vexing. Is there some tangential connection to…we don’t know…dairy futures, perhaps???

The news last week was big about the Senate lowering the dress code in the Capitol. (Senators only exempted, staffers and visitors still biden to dress like adults.) Of course, this was all due to making more accommodations for John Fetterman, who we have been told was perfectly fine to serve in Congress. And then he was not.

But as there was head-shaking over this debasing of norms in the Senate many in the press rushed to John’s side in order to dunk on the Republicans, conflating the politicians bemoaning turning the chamber into a frat house with those online suggesting there was a Fetterman stunt double walking around. But as this duo from The Messenger missed, this means they are aligning themselves with the guy who calls other members “jagoffs” and meeting with world leaders as he dresses like the towel boy at the YMCA.

A new poll came out that turned heads by showing Donald Trump with a +10 advantage over President Biden. While sending chills down the backs of Democrats, and most in the press, the Washington Post reported on the results and wanted to calm everyone by struggling to explain this poll was an outlier.

The sizable margin of Trump’s lead in this survey is significantly at odds with other public polls that show the general election contest a virtual dead heat.

What we end up with here is an outlet basically telling people not to listen to their own results – since this is all concerning the ABC/Washington Post poll. Also making its dismissive approach more amusing is closing out by showing how the poll is actually accurate.

Biden’s overall approval stands at 37 percent, about where it was in May but lower than in February when it was 42 percent. The Post-ABC poll finds 56 percent of Americans disapproving of Biden, a figure on par with other recent polls.

Many questions abound as you behold this spectacle, the first being, “Why?”

The next curiosity is, just how many watermelon sculptures are there to require accreditation in order to claim to be “the world’s largest”?

There is an increasing demand for wartime ordinance in Europe, given the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. For instance, one arms manufacturer states that demand for artillery shells is 15 times higher currently than normal production and that the conflict is using the ammunition at a clip faster than it can be produced. However, one European military factory is facing another challenge in meeting the demand.

The Norwegian defense firm Nammo wants to expand its manufacturing facility in order to meet this demand, but it is prevented from doing so due to a paucity of available electricity. The issue is that TikTok has a nearby data center and it is consuming the bulk of the available power in the region, leaving Nammo incapable of committing to its expansion. “We are concerned because we see our future growth is challenged by the storage of cat videos,” Nammo’s chief executive, Morten Brandtzæg told FT.

Dave Portnoy Pulled the Greatest Public Shaming Since Andrew Breitbart Roasted Anthony Weiner

September 26, 2023 by Duke Leave a Comment

I think it is pretty safe to say that at least half of the people who are currently writing here at RedState were inspired by the late Andrew Breitbart in how they view the media and, in turn, how the media influences the world in general.

I know I was.

As I wrote a couple of years back on the anniversary of Andrews’s death, he had a great impact on me — and many others that I know.

From that article

Requiem for Andrew Breitbart: Shine on, You Crazy Diamond – 10 Years Later

I’m sure you had no idea what an impact you had on so many people, how could you? Of course, I imagine you had glimpses at times and had many people tell you but how does anyone really ever know what type of impact they have while alive? So here today, 10 years after your passing, people will commemorate your passing and once again recall with fondness and laughter — so much laughter — the things you did, and the respect you commanded from so many people.

Respect that you earned every minute of every hour for the short time that you were a public figure. Your friend and often partner in crime, Larry O’ Connor, a couple of years ago mentioned that you were not in the public eye for very long, maybe less than five years. Yet in that short amount of time, you taught so many of us to stand up and have our voices heard and even though we might be nervous or scared to do it, the encouragement you gave reassured us it could be done.

You destroyed the book on how to take the beating from a media narrative, nuke it, and turn it back on those arses, and to do it with the zeal of a leftist hack calling anyone whom they do not agree with a racist, homophobe, etc. That you helped give countless people that confidence is something any normal person would be thrilled with as a legacy. Yet I think it is pretty safe to say, in addition to you being a Husky male model, being normal was not your style.

Your roadmap on fighting the media and also, by extension, those on social media has had a decade-long impact — and continues to show the way.

So I guess it’s not surprising that when you’ve been heavily influenced by somebody, you sometimes recognize their fingerprint on other things that you see around you. After writing and doing a quick audio hit about what Dave Portnoy did to the Washington Post reporter who reached out to him for what would become a hit piece on his Pizza Festival last Saturday, a little bell began to ring in my head. This reminds me of something that Andrew Breitbart once did or would have done.

Just a quick recap here of my story.

LISTEN: Duke Over America – ‘Dave Portnoy DESTROYS the Washington Post’ Edition

Here is another one of those times when I can sit gleefully by and not give a flying hoot in hell about the politics of Dave Portnoy or anyone who can pull off a maneuver like Dave has here.

As I said in my show above, this is simply a TEDTalk or an ‘Andrew Breitbart lobby in a bar’ class, that was put on here and it is magnificent. You do NOT allow the media to set the ground rules for “journalism” when the method they use lacks common sense and involves waiting until the last minute to talk with the feature of the post to set them up. In just under a 12-minute video post, Portnoy shows everyone how it is done with a calm and cool demeanor and anyone in media should take copious notes on how to do this at the drop of a hat.

Dave Portnoy handled this situation in just about the best way one could.

He didn’t sit on his hiney after he was tipped off the Post was working on a hit piece. He called up the reporter and politely asked her what was the point of sending loaded questions, making him sound like a villain to sponsors of their Pizza Celebration. As you can hear in the audio I posted above in my previous piece, the reporter was not prepared to face off with the subject of her soon-to-be-published piece in this manner.

The way Portnoy handled this is almost as epic as the way Andrew Breitbart handed the Anthony Weiner tweeting his “junk” story back in 2011.

Almost.

If you don’t recall the Breitbart – Anthony Weiner Twitter tussle, here is a brief breakdown given to me by Andrew himself a week before he died in 2012.

Andrew was on vacation with his family, and he came across a tweet that I believe somebody had DMed him or he saw in the public timeline of a picture of someone’s private parts. He then was alerted that this was possibly a congressman accidentally sending a picture of his package on the public timeline and then rushing to delete it after he realized his mistake.

When the congressman was called out on it, he immediately claimed that his account was hacked, and he started to blame numerous people or organizations. One of the people he called out was Andrew Breitbart and his sites.

Andrew, of course, did not take kindly to this.

He went on the offensive and started demanding that Congressman Weiner take his claim to the FBI that he was hacked as such a hack — particularly one of a sitting United States Congressman — was a federal crime. If the Congressman were being truthful, then the Federal Bureau of Investigation would, of course, take up the investigation to find out who hacked this poor innocent slob’s account.

Of course, as we found out later, there was never any hacking, and that’s why Weiner never filed a complaint — because filing such a complaint when you know it is false is also a crime.

In the 15-minute video below, Andrew, who had just arrived in New York to do some Fox News hits, I believe, was alerted that Congressman Weiner was going to be holding a press conference to discuss all of this. While he was sitting in the back of the room, reporters who recognized him started asking him questions, and he finally was asked to go to the front podium so that everyone in the room could hear him.

So Tony Weiner had to sit in the back in the waiting room for his own press conference while the person who had exposed the truth about his tasteless photos of his manhood on Twitter held a press conference explaining why he was right in that matter and Weiner was wrong.

Andrew told me that it was the most surreal moment in his life, and he doubted he would ever top such a chain of events. Unfortunately, he was right about that.

I have no idea if Dave Portnoy knows who Andrew Breitbart is or if he followed the Breitbart – Weiner Twitter scandal over 12 years ago. However, the way that Dave handled this, going on the offense and not waiting for a bogus story to drop, was very Breitbartian.

I truly hope we see more of this in the future.

Prepare for the Dem Freakout: Trump Takes Shocking Lead Over Biden as Joe’s Numbers Take a Dive

September 24, 2023 by Nick Arama Leave a Comment

Joe Biden has not been doing well in polls against former President Donald Trump lately. We pointed out how Trump had a slight lead in the Real Clear Politics average, but it was looking pretty brutal for Biden across a variety of metrics.

But the latest poll from The Washington Post/ABC poll has to have the Biden people tearing their hair out and wondering what they can do and whether they should be pulling Biden from the race.

The 77-year-old former president trounced the Democrat 52% to 42% in a hypothetical rematch of the 2020 contest, up significantly from Trump’s 49% to 43% lead during a similar survey from the outlets in May.

“Heads are EXPLODING at the Jeff Bezos Amazon Washington Post, as President Trump now leads Biden nationally by 10,” senior Trump adviser Jason Miller boasted on X.

This 10-point lead is pretty shocking. What’s even more shocking is the lead with independents, who are likely going to be the people to sway the election. That’s 13 points.

🇺🇲 2024 GE: ABC/WP POLL (A)

(R) Trump 52% (+10)
(D) Biden 42%

Independents
(R) Trump 52% (+13)
(D) Biden 39%

— InteractivePolls (@IAPolls2022) September 24, 2023

Now, as I say with polls at this point, we’re still more than a year away, so a lot of things can change, and this poll may be a little out in front of the polls that had it essentially a tie, with the edge to Trump. But it’s good news for Trump and bad news for Biden on many levels.

Only 30% look favorably on his handling of the economy, while 37% approve of his performance overall, compared to 56% who disapprove, per the poll.

On immigration, Biden’s approval clocks in at 23%, with 45% strongly disapproving.

Then, a considerable 74% of voters feel that he’s too old for another term, wile about 50% say the same about Trump.

Imagine being Joe Biden and being on track to let in 10-15 million illegals into America in an effort to pander to Hispanics…

And waking up to ABC/WaPo telling you you’re losing Hispanics 50% to 44% and that your lowest approval rating is on immigration. pic.twitter.com/yX2Yh52cZw

— Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11) September 24, 2023

Biden’s overall approval is more underwater than Trump’s—37 percent approve while 56 disapprove. Trump, meanwhile, has 48 percent approval and 49 percent disapproval in this poll.

Another fascinating number showed that more would blame Democrats than Republicans for a government shutdown, which shows people are truly getting what’s going on and they’re not just believing the propaganda.

It’s also interesting to note the number with independents is in line with the Fox poll that I previously wrote about, which had him at 10 percent up among independents.

This WaPo/ABC poll was 25 percent Republicans, 25 percent Democrats, and 42 percent independents, with 1,002 participants.

The Democrats have to be rethinking everything at this point, and the fights behind the scenes to try to get Biden to back off have to be something. They’re running out of time, and they may have a problem if Joe doesn’t want to step aside. Could we get to the point where Democrats would be joining with Republicans in trying to remove him? It might not be out of the realm of possibility if they thought it was the only way to preserve their hold on power.

LISTEN: Duke Over America – Dave Portnoy DESTROYS the Washington Post Edition

September 21, 2023 by Duke Leave a Comment

Listen above as I go over a portion of Dave Portnoy’s taped audio call with Washington Post’s Emily Heil and how he absolutely flipped the table on her noggin with her version of ambush journalism.

What a day to be alive in the media business.

As my colleague Ward Clark wrote here yesterday, there was a smackdown in the media landscape that occurred and it did not involve wresting of any kind. Yet it 100 percent got media of a conservative nature buzzing and it involved the verbal destruction of a Washington Post reporter who all of a sudden found that “Your Lies Die in The Spotlight” courtesy of Dave Portnoy of Bar Stool Sports.

Here is a portion of Wade’s post  Barstool Sports Founder Dave Portnoy Roasts WaPo Writer, Gives a Master Class on Fighting Media Bias.

Dave Portnoy, founder and owner of Barstool Sports, has a complaint with Washington Post reporter Emily Heil’s characterization of him as “racist and misogynistic” and has given us a great seminar on how to react to such an accusation.

When Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy discovered the Washington Post’s Emily Heil had contacted his advertisers and labeled him as a person with a “history of misogynistic comments,” he took matters into his own hands and called her.

Portnoy posted the 11-minute confrontation in its entirety on Twitter. Heil initially lies, saying she didn’t characterize Portnoy as a misogynistic racist, before being confronted with her own words.

“We have this Pizza-fest happening on Saturday, and you’re reaching out to our advertisers,” Portnoy said. “You’re basically sending an e-mail that says, to the effect, ‘Dave’s a misogynic racist. Do you want to defend yourselves advertising at this event?’ Right?” he asked Heil.

Portnoy went ahead and set up a 10 a.m. call with the Post reporters and today at that specified time, low and behold they bailed and wanted to change the time.

Dave was having NONE OF THAT.

The @washingtonpost just cancelled the 10am call. Shocker. They proposed 5pm instead. I said 10am or nothing. They refused. What could suddenly be more important than this? The article has to come out Friday. So they’d leave themselves a few hours before going to print? 🦝🦝 https://t.co/qPQ77bXLcG

This hack attempt at performing “journalism” revolves around the Dave Portnoy One Bite Pizza Fest this Saturday in Maimonides Park, Brooklyn, New York, and trying to shame his sponsors. You know, the people whose pizza he is featuring and just trying to help make a living.

Portnoy has been a target of left-wing outlets for a while and he always seems to beat them to the punch with his policy of just speaking his opinion and being honest. This has confounded his critics, who are numerous and he talked about a bit when he sat down with Tucker Carlson on X.

This, folks, is how you fight back against unfair media portrayals. The founder of Barstool Sports obviously did his homework, too, because, on that call, he had all of his web-footed fowl arranged in a linear fashion before dialing. In the video, he presented a great example of “calling them on the carpet.” Here are a couple of gems:

“We are planning to write about the festival and how some of the sponsors and participants have drawn criticism by seeming to associate themselves with Dave Portnoy, who has a history of misogynistic comments and other problematic behavior,” Portnoy read.

Upon hearing Portnoy reading the e-mail, Heil admitted to sending it. However, she claimed the email was the most “pointed of them,” because she “really did want them to respond.”

“Do you think that’s fair?” Portnoy asked. “I totally disagree with the assertions of what you said that I’m misogynic and all that stuff.”

This, folks, is the formula. Push back. Correct false statements. Don’t let them get away with it. Call them out publicly. Record and post the conversation – on Twitter, Facebook, wherever you can. And no matter what else you do, never, ever apologize. Dave Portnoy did it right.

It would be nice if the Washington Post’s Emily Heil was one of the worst offenders, but she’s not even in the top ten. Earlier this month my colleague Brad Slager gave us a compilation of Chuck Todd’s Greatest Hits, and there were some doozies. And Sister Toldjah also brings us the tale of yet another “tell all” book accusing Ron DeSantis, literally, of kicking puppies. There are many others, many more prominent, many even less forthright and honest.

It has been apparent for some time now that the media is acting as a de facto arm of the Democratic Party; none other than Bernard Goldberg, who describes himself as a 1960s liberal Democrat, wrote one of the first books on the topic way back in 2001. But it seems in recent years that the old practices of cherry-picking quotes, inferring, and implying have been replaced by outright, shameless lying.

It’s an untenable situation. It’s an intolerable situation. There are, fortunately, alternatives; you’re reading one of them right here. You can read more, in fact, with a VIP subscription – use code SAVEAMERICA for a discount!
