Who Knew? White People Drinking Coffee Perpetuates ‘Pillar of White Supremacist Capitalism’

March 21, 2023 by Mike Miller Leave a Comment

Yeah, who knew?

As a non-coffee drinker in a coffee-obsessed world, I’m pleased to know that at least in this case, I’m not a genetically-coded “inherently racist” white supremacist, by virtue of my whiteness. I am a “cis” white male, though, so I do qualify as “all of the above” in every other ridiculous left-wing sense, so there’s that.

Anyway, a recent idiotic article posted on Afru.com makes the argument that drinking coffee perpetuates white supremacy. Yeah. The ridiculous piece suggests that because coffee was “created by black people,” if you enjoy drinking the stuff, you’re “helping an industry built on racism.”

The idiocy is never gonna stop getting even more idiotic, is it?

Check it out, via the Afru.com staff:

If you’re a person of color, you know what I’m talking about. You walk into a new coffee shop and your senses are overwhelmed with whiteness and you get the glare from the Karens. The white hipster barista lines herself up between you and the bathrooms, ready to tell you non-customers aren’t welcome.

If you have a white coffee drinking friend, he or she may have even let you in on the old coffee joke white coffee drinkers share when PoC aren’t around: “There are three things that are necessary in order to make a cup of coffee, and they are: first, a black man to roast the coffee; second, a yellow man to grind it; and third, a white man to drink it.”

Stop the tape. I know numerous coffee-drinking white people, some of whom are in my own family. I’ve never heard that idiotic “joke” — and I’m confident that most of my coffee-drinking family members and friends haven’t, either.

The nonsense continued, unabated:

Well, I’m here to validate your lived experience; coffee is in fact horribly racist, and there’s data to back it up. Every facet of the coffee industry, in fact, is rooted in racism.

From the moment the whites viciously stole coffee from Black and Brown People to the present-day Karen sipping her morning cup of white supremacy, whites have been able to drink the fruits of our labor and our culture with impunity.

It’s “almost” as if people like the staff of Afru eagerly make up more and more silly “racist” crap because they’re obsessed with race, 24×7. Thing is, that’s on them, bless their twisted hearts.

The article includes a reference to Phyllis Johnson, founder of BD Imports, who wrote in Strong Black Coffee: Why Aren’t African-Americans More Prominent in the Coffee Industry?:

The history of coffee is both fascinating and tragic. Working through this unpleasant history is necessary for everyone involved in coffee. For some, this history is a source of empowerment; for others, it is a source of anger, hurt, and shame. Unfortunately, for many this history is unknown. It’s important that we understand and acknowledge this history.

The first coffees exported to North America and Europe were harvested by slaves. Later, enslaved Africans prepared and served coffees for their slave owners when they were not laboring in the fields.

As we trace the bean that started in Africa and spread throughout the world, slave ships departed West Africa to put in place forced labor to ensure an adequate supply of production to meet demand. As demand for coffee grew during this period, so did enslavement, which was used to sustain production.

For the sake of brevity, I won’t dispute any of the above, none of which is part of my problem with the Afru article. What I will suggest is that forced and slave labor has existed in the world for many millennia, which is not an observation to minimize any of the above, given the above is historically accurate.

The salient point is the fact that forced or slave labor — including child labor — has not been limited to people of color. As Reuters reported in 2009:

Children and forced laborers are mining gold, sewing clothing, and harvesting cocoa around the world, and India is the source [of] the biggest number of products made by these workers, a U.S. government report said on Thursday.

The Department of Labor for the first time released a list of goods produced by child or forced labor in foreign countries after Congress told it to compile one. The department looked at 122 products in 58 countries.

Once again, I’m not minimizing any past injustices; I’m suggesting that absurdly asserting that 21st-century white people drinking coffee perpetuates white supremacy is race-hustling at its worst (or “best,” as it were), which is perpetuated solely to continue sowing the sick seeds of racial division in America.

The Bottom Line

Intentional race-baiting continues to hurt every American, regardless of race or color. Where — and how far back — does the insidiousness begin and end? Great question. But people who view virtually everything in life through the hate-based lens of racism are a disgrace to the goodness of this country.

But, hey — since leftists pride themselves in boycotting everything with which they take issue, perhaps the staff of Afru and other like-minded race-baiters should simply boycott coffee, call it a day, and move on to find further racism around every white supremacist corner.

Black California DEI Director Accused of White Supremacy For Failing to Espouse ‘Woke’ Ideology

March 20, 2023 by Kira Davis Leave a Comment

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is the latest trend sapping the budgets of American institutions everywhere.

Last week, a shocking report from The Claremont Institute revealed that American corporations have dedicated over $80 billion dollars to DEI causes and trainings since 2021. Among the companies spending millions on “anti-racism” related programs was the troubled Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), which shelled out nearly $74 million dollars for DEI initiatives, even as the bank’s investment program was tanking dramatically.

The report details $82 billion dollars in social justice/BLM investments by major American companies. SVB stands out as one of the larger donors, next to big donors like Apple ($100 million) and Comcast ($165 million). While at the top of the donation pool, those contributors do pale in comparison to donors like Blackrock ($810 million) and Citigroup ($1.1 billion). However, the group did pledge on their website to provide in total up to $11 billion dollars by 2026 for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs and racial justice causes.

DEI trends are not only crushing business and financial progress, they are (intentionally) creating a uniform idealogical base in educational institutions across the nation. The rules for uniformity have become so ridiculous and so restrictive that a black DEI director in California says she has been pushed out of her job for failing to meet the progressive “woke” standards of her colleagues.

Dr. Tabia Lee became the faculty director for the Office of Equity, Social Justice and Education at De Anza College in Cupertino, California in 2021. Since that time, Lee says she has faced non-stop hostility” on her campus. The alleged hostility finally came to a head when the college informed Lee she would not be seeing her contract renewed after the current semester.

I’m passionate about elevating multiple perspectives and creating spaces where you can do that,” Dr. Tabia Lee told the [New York] Post. “And that’s literally why I was harassed and bullied out of my position.”

The DEI director called the position a “dream come true” after spending the majority of her professional career teaching in middle school and higher education and advocating for minority teachers. Unfortunately, that dream quickly turned into a nightmare as fellow staff began to harass her, accusing her of “white supremacy” for trying to streamline department communications and for questioning grammar policy around capitalizing in racial identification.

When she tried to help streamline staff communications by creating a Google Doc system, she said she was accused by a colleague of “white-splaining” — a term used to describe when white people patronizingly explain things to people of color — and of supporting white supremacy.

“I’m a black woman, and [they’re] telling me that I’m white-splaining,” Lee recalled. “[Everyone] acted like I had injured [my colleague] instead of it being the other way around, because I didn’t confess to my white supremacy or whatever.”

It happened again when she raised questions about an official school communication capitalized “Black” but not “white.”

Lee wasn’t even suggesting the college stop capitalizing “Black,” but rather simply suggested the school follow National Association of Black Journalists standards by capitalizing all races.

Her efforts were an obvious violation of informal thought policing used on college campuses these days, and she was labeled a “right-winger and “white supremacist.”

“For that, I was accused of being a white supremacist,” she said. “These constant accusations of calling people racist or calling them a white supremacists or saying that they’re aligned with right wingers — that’s such ridiculousness. It’s very damaging.”

The harassment continued after Lee questioned the accuracy of a “land acknowledgment” statement in use by De Anza College. A “land acknowledgement” statement is a gesture of admitting “privilege,” typically employed by progressive institutions and businesses. The idea is a recognition of the original heritage of the land currently in use. Students and faculty usually recite the acknowledgement before classes. The former middle school teacher suggested putting a hold on the practice until the college could verify the historical accuracy of the tribal claims in question. She told school officials there may be some evidence the tribe to which they were attributing the land historicity was actually the wrong tribe.

“To me that signals, it doesn’t really matter,” Lee said. “We’re doing [land acknowledgements] to signal our alignment with critical social justice ideology and not to really make any real changes. It’s a performative, almost pseudo-religious exercise.”

Lee claims she was also bullied for trying to organize a campus summit on anti-Semitism after receiving several complaints of discrimination from Jewish students and faculty. Colleagues told her Jewish people are “white oppressors.”

It seems as though the whole ordeal came to a head when Lee refused to join a campus socialist network. It was at that point she believes her refusal to take on any labels, and her advocacy for total and nondiscriminatory “inclusion” cost her the tenure promised with the DEI director’s position. The school denied her tenure for an “inability to demonstrate cooperation in working with colleagues and staff” and an “unwillingness to accept constructive criticism.”

“I do not identify as a liberal or a conservative or a Republican or a Democrat or a libertarian or socialist or a communist or a feminist,” she told The Post. “I don’t identify with any of those labels, so I just had no interest in being a part of that.

De Anza’s Coordinator of Communications told The New York Post that “faculty members have comprehensive due process and appeal right both under the law and negotiated through their bargaining unit.”

Lee has not decided whether or not she will pursue legal recourse, but she did tell the Post she felt she lost the position because she refused to discriminate in the pursuit of “equity.”

“I’m trying to create safe spaces for everyone,” Lee said. “But some people wanted me to create spaces that were just safe for them, and that’s not my mission as an educator. That’s not what I’m here to do.”

State University Launches ‘Anti-Black Racism’ Minor

March 17, 2023 by Alex Parker Leave a Comment

How would you like to major in white supremacy? In school, that is. The University of Maryland (UMD) is nearly offering the opportunity.

In 2020, the institution launched its Anti-Black Racism Initiative (ABRI). From the official introduction:

In response to the recent tragic killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and other African Americans — in many of these cases at the hands of law enforcement — the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS)…formed The Anti-Black Racism Initiative to further coordinate, publicize, and enhance our efforts to identify, disrupt, and prevent anti-Black racism.

The project’s mission is to “promote long-term change in the college and on the campus, and beyond,” as well as to “elevate the status and experience of African Americans.”

[W]e are self-examining and promoting changes in how we engage antiracism; how we teach undergraduate and graduate levels; and how we hire, mentor, support, and retain faculty and staff.

Antiracism, if you’re unaware, has been thusly defined by UCLA Law Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw:

“[It] is the active dismantling of systems, privileges, and everyday practices that reinforce and normalize the contemporary dimensions of white dominance. This…involves a critical understanding of the history of whiteness in [the U.S.].”

UMD asserts America’s system has a KKK-ish core; and it’s aiming at that sinister center:

We have committed to investigating, discussing, and taking action to recognize and prevent systemic racism, anti-Black racism and violence. … Our research on anti-Black racism focuses on topics such as policing and police brutality, judicial processes, sentencing, voting and social movements, work and the economy, violence, family, health, geography, and climate.

In the effort to obliterate America’s white-supremacist ways — and integral to racial research — the University has announced a “Minor in Anti-Black Racism.” Per the Department of African American Studies page:

The Department of African American Studies collaborated with the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, the College of Education, The School of Public Policy, and the School of Public Health are excited to introduce a new Minor in Anti-Black Racism effective Fall 2023.

Anti-Black racism is conceptualized as policies and practices rooted in social institutions (i.e. education, healthcare, criminal justice system, housing) that reinforce prejudice and discrimination towards people of African descent. This minor will give students a deeper understanding of these policies, practices, beliefs, and behaviors as well as ways to work to ensure they can be inclusive leaders…

As evidenced by a host of headlines, the justice-minded among us are pounding away at prejudice against the profoundly pigmented:

Professor Prescribes ‘Reregulation’ to Help White People Stop Their Racist Violence

Black Student Union Demands More Black-Only Housing to Obliterate ‘Unrelenting Anti-Blackness’

College Symposium Razes the Anti-Black Racism of ‘Good’ Grammar

Activist Demands Whites Buy ‘Black Panther’ Tickets for Black People and Possibly Die for Them

UCLA Students Stump for Segregation to Pummel ‘Pervasive’ Anti-Blackness

And the University of Maryland is especially on the ball:

Public University Seeks General Writing Consultant — Who Actively Fights the Oppressive White Race

Professor: Cancer Researchers Should Show Their Faces to Prove They Aren’t White

Back to the Minor in Anti-Black Racism, it’s an interesting idea. Historically, the purpose of college has been to ready young adults for careers. For what kind of job might the program prepare participants? The academic world undoubtedly awaits. Otherwise, there are oodles of employers with DEI departments and antiracist engagement. So goes our new ideological job market, and so goes the University of Maryland.

Through a radical array of efforts, let’s hope white supremacy is finally vanquished. Oddly, the more we rise against it, the more it appears to thrive:
