Burger King Facing Boycotts for Pulling Advertising From Rumble Over Russell Brand Controversy

September 24, 2023 by Jeff Charles Leave a Comment

The controversy over the sexual assault allegations against podcaster and comedian Russell Brand continues to dominate political discourse. When accusations emerged, it led to a series of occurrences that have made ripples in the world of entertainment and business.

Brand, who has denied the allegations, finds himself at the center of a storm. But now, companies like Burger King and others have also been targeted for criticism after it was revealed they pulled their advertising from the video-sharing platform Rumble, which has continued to allow Brand to broadcast on their platform after YouTube demonetized his channel due to the controversy.

The revelation came from The News Movement, a TikTok channel.

Burger King and other companies have removed their adverts from a video-sharing platform that continues to host Russell Brand after he was accused of rape and sexual assault, [news outlet] i can reveal.

The move by several firms, selling everything from software to soft toys, to pull their ads from US-based Rumble follows the decision by YouTube to suspend ad revenue on the comedian’s channels – and Rumble’s refusal to follow suit.

Now, it appears that Burger King might get the Bud Light treatment, with several conservative influencers threatening to boycott the fast-food giant.

Burger King wants you to “have it your way.” Who knew their “way” was wokeism, censorship & cancel culture. Their burgers are shit any way.

Burger King has pulled its ads from Rumble because the free speech platform refuses to play judge, jury, and executioner of Russell Brand after the UK Governor demanded the platform demonetize him.

Reminder, Brand has not been convicted of a single crime.

The allegations against Brand are quite serious. A joint investigation by The Sunday Times, the Times, and U.K. broadcaster Channel 4’s Dispatches program covered claims coming from multiple women alleging that Brand had committed rape and sexual abuse against them between 2006 and 2013. One of the most appalling accusations is that he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl when he was in his early 30s. She claims he referred to her as “the child” and detailed instances of emotional abuse and controlling behavior.

On the other hand, Brand has denied these allegations and indicated that it is part of an effort to smear him because of his prominent platform on which he constantly expresses anti-establishment views. Indeed, he is not the only high-profile individual who found themselves in a similar predicament after speaking out against the government and authoritarian forces in society. Many have defended the podcaster, arguing that it is a media-inspired witch hunt and pointing out that these allegations never surfaced when Brand was not a political figure.

Rumble has been pressured to demonetize Brand’s channel as well. A member of the United Kingdom’s Parliament sent a letter to the company asking if it will remove advertising revenue from his channel. The company refused.

The women making the accusations have remained anonymous, and there have been no charges filed against Brand at the moment.

The Advertising Boycott of Rumble Over the Russell Brand Allegations Has Begun

September 23, 2023 by Bonchie Leave a Comment

As RedState reported, comedian and podcast host Russell Brand is facing a variety of sexual misconduct allegations dating to his time in Hollywood.

The Saving Silverman star has dramatically changed his outlook over the last decade, getting married and having children while turning from what he has often described as a “promiscuous” past. Still, while he admits to having moral failings, he has denied any criminal wrongdoing related to the recent allegations, all of which date back over a decade.

Perhaps he’s not telling the truth? But if he isn’t, that should be a judgment made in a courtroom, not in the court of public opinion. Unfortunately, many of the platforms that Brand uses for his media work are preemptively canceling him, though. He has already been demonized on YouTube and other social media sites, leading Brand to focus on Rumble, a live-streaming site that prioritizes free speech.

Now, the advertiser boycott of Rumble has begun.

A number of large companies have pulled their advertisements from the video platform Rumble, where Russell Brand broadcasts his weekly show, in the week since allegations of rape and sexual assault against the comedian came to light.

The News Movement reported on Friday that Burger King, Asos, the Barbican and HelloFresh, the recipe box delivery service, had removed their ads. Brand has 1.4m followers on the platform. YouTube suspended Brand’s ability to earn money on its platform on Tuesday but Rumble has rejected calls to do the same. On Friday, Brand said the moves to block him from receiving advertising revenue for his videos on social media platforms have occurred “in the context of the online safety bill”.

This is such a dangerous precedent to set. It essentially allows anyone’s income stream to be quashed by the mere existence of allegations. What does that do? It incentivizes those with ulterior motives to make such allegations, knowing they can destroy someone without ever having to prove their case.

Social media companies should not be demonetizing content creators over allegations not even related to the content they create. Brand did nothing to break YouTube’s terms of service. If any of his accusers want to take him to court, criminally or civilly, they are welcome to do so, but platforms should become judge and jury.

I have no idea what the truth is here. I do know that no one should want to live in a society where you can be fired or demonetized without being able to even offer a defense. The advertisers that are leaving Rumble over this do not deserve your support. If you were crazy enough to go to Burger King before this, choose another fast food joint next time.

UK Parliament Asks if Rumble Will Demonetize Russell Brand; CEO Reminds Them Why the Colonies Rebelled

September 20, 2023 by Jennifer Van Laar Leave a Comment

Russell Brand is the #MeToo movement’s latest villain, and in the wake of multiple sexual assault allegations that suddenly appeared earlier this week, YouTube suspended monetization of his accounts Tuesday. That’s par for the course with YouTube, really, and no one was surprised. But that wasn’t enough for one British Member of Parliament, Dame Caroline Dinenage, who chairs the Culture, Media, and Sport Committee in the House of Commons.

This morning I set out @commonsCMS ’s next steps on culture and safeguarding in the media, following this weekend’s allegations against Russell Brand pic.twitter.com/EnumXFqLzL

— Caroline Dinenage (@cj_dinenage) September 19, 2023

Dinenage, on behalf of her committee, wrote to Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski asking whether Rumble was going to follow YouTube’s lead and suspend monetization of Brand’s account, noting that Brand had posted his pre-emptive message regarding the allegations to Rumble.

Attached is the letter from the UK Parliament. pic.twitter.com/MdeYrlt06J

— Rumble – 🏴‍☠️ $RUM (@rumblevideo) September 20, 2023

The whole letter is just beyond the pale, but this line gives me chills:

While we recognise that Rumble is not the creator of the content published by Mr Brand, we are concerned that he may be able to profit from his content on the platform.

Just for the sake of argument, assume that Brand ends up criminally charged in one or more of the instances complained of. Should the government be preventing him from having the ability to pay for attorneys for his defense? Obviously, that’s a big no.

Rumble published their reply on Twitter/X, and reminded Dame Dinenage that we are not in the United Kingdom and that here in the United States we do things a little differently. Well, at least some of us still do things a little differently.

Unreal: YouTube Suspends Russell Brand From Making Money on Site Because of Sexual Assault Allegations

September 19, 2023 by Nick Arama Leave a Comment

Russell Brand is facing multiple allegations of sexual assault and he’s unequivocally denied those allegations.

The claims deal with allegations from many years ago, before 2013. In their wake, Brand has made it clear that he thought this was coming out now because people wanted to cancel him.

— Russell Brand (@rustyrockets) September 15, 2023

We’ll have to see the facts of the cases as they come out but one does have to ask if these are issues from long ago, why are they coming out now? The timing seems concerning given Brand now getting under the skin of some in the mainstream media.

Now, YouTube has taken action which is only going to feed the concern that he’s being targeted.

YouTube announced they were suspending the monetization on all of Brand’s accounts because of the “serious allegations against the creator.”

“This decision applies to all channels that may be owned or operated by Russell Brand,” YouTube said.

That means Brand wouldn’t be able to earn any money from any of his videos, and he has 6.6 million subscribers and he generally gets millions of views. So that’s not a small punishment they are enacting against him.

I don’t know about the validity of the charges. We’ll have to see as more information comes out. But what I do know is that YouTube is taking this action without any finding of guilt so far on these claims. Heck, he hasn’t even been charged. So forget the concept of innocent until proven guilty. When you are not loved by the mainstream media, you are guilty until proven innocent. And what did any of this alleged behavior have to do with his YouTube channel?  It might be one another thing if there was bad behavior allegedly regarding the account, but It just seems like they want to use the claims to drop the hammer on Brand’s account.

A YouTube spokesperson explained it this way, “If a creator’s off-platform behavior harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action to protect the community.” But how are his videos “hurting the community,” unless you mean he’s saying things you don’t want him to say?

That’s a troubling thing when they’re already making a judgment about guilt or innocence and proclaiming him harmful.

Even if YouTube shuts him down, he does have some other options, although those avenues might not be quite as lucrative.

Brand still has a presence on Rumble, a video site popular with some conservatives and far-right groups, where his channel has 1.4 million followers.

He also has 11.2 million followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, and 3.8 million on Instagram.

Brand has also been hit with some other consequences.

He had been due to perform on Tuesday in Windsor, west of London, but promoters said the rest of the tour was being postponed following the allegations.

Brand also has been dropped by his talent agency and a publisher since the allegations became public.

So whatever the truth about the charges, it surely does look like the canceling effort is in full swing.

Russell Brand demonetized on YouTube. And the new rule has been implemented: You will now get demonetized on YouTube if your off-platform behaviour “harms” its “ecosystem”.

I’m sure this economic censorship is going to be used only with extreme parsimony, and will never be… pic.twitter.com/IUX0kYiK6e

Russell Brand Preemptively Denies ‘Very Disturbing’ Allegations He Says Are Being Used to Take Him Down

September 16, 2023 by Bonchie Leave a Comment

Russell Brand raised eyebrows on Friday evening by releasing a video in which he pre-emptively denied criminal allegations he says are going to be made against him soon.

Brand currently hosts a highly-rated podcast, covering controversial topics such as COVID-19 mandates. Before that, he was most known for being a popular comedian and starring in several big-budget films, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek.

In the video, Brand says that he refutes “these very, very serious, criminal allegations,” though he doesn’t go into detail about what they are.

This is happening pic.twitter.com/N8zIKLbJN2

— Russell Brand (@rustyrockets) September 15, 2023

BRAND: I’ve received two extremely disturbing letters, or a letter and an email. One from a mainstream media TV company, one from a newspaper, listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks as well as some pretty stupid attacks like my community festival should be stopped, that I shouldn’t be able to attack mainstream media narratives on this channel. But amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.

These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies. As I’ve written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous. Now, during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely always consensual. I was always transparent about that then, almost too transparent, and I’m being transparent about it now. And to see that transparency metastasized into something criminal that I absolutely deny makes me question, is there another agenda at play, particularly when we’ve seen coordinated media attacks before like with Joe Rogan when he dared to take a medicine that the mainstream media didn’t approve of and we saw a spate of headlines from media outlets across the world using the same language.

I’m aware that you guys have been saying in the comments for a while, “Watch out Russell, they’re coming for you, you’re getting too close to the truth, Russell Brand did not kill himself.” I know that a year ago, there was a spate of articles [saying] “Russell Brand is a conspiracy theorist, Russell Brand’s right-wing.” I’m aware of news media making phone calls, sending letters to people I know for ages and ages. It’s been clear, or at least it feels to me there’s a serious and concerted agenda to control these kinds of spaces and these kinds of voices, and I mean my voice along with your voice.

Reading between the lines, Brand is definitely alluding to criminal charges related to sexual misconduct. He mentions that they relate to his “promiscuous” past and insists that any relationships he had were fully consensual multiple times throughout his statement.

As to the timing of all this, he’s certainly right to be suspicious. Brand was already a celebrity, but he’s become a different kind of celebrity over the last several years, challenging mainstream press narratives and speaking against policies that are otherwise supported by the left-wing ruling class in Europe. Why dredge this stuff up now? Why not a decade ago when all this stuff was already out in the open as far as his promiscuous nature, which he again claims was consensual? Why wait until he’s a married man doing political commentary to coordinate these attacks and try to take him down?

I think we all know the answer to that. That doesn’t mean that Brand’s past behavior was good. He himself has said it wasn’t. That doesn’t make him a criminal, though, and media outlets trying to put that perception out there, likely based on hearsay, is exactly the kind of illiberal nonsense that happened all too often at the peak of the “Me Too” movement. If there’s actual evidence of Brand doing something criminal, let’s see it. One-sided allegations pushed by biased media outlets decades after the fact aren’t that. We’ll see how this plays out, though.
