Parents abandon baby at Tel Aviv airport after failing to buy infant’s ticket: ‘We have never seen anything like that’

February 1, 2023 by Paul Sacca Leave a Comment

The parents reportedly did not purchase a ticket for their baby. Ryanair requires that travelers pay a $27 fee for an infant to sit on the lap of an adult on its flights. The check-in counters were already closed when the couple arrived, and a ticket for the baby could not be purchased.

The parents then allegedly left their baby at the check-in counter and rushed toward the boarding gate.

Israel’s Airport Authority said in a statement, “They left the baby and went to the security check-in at Terminal 1 to get to the departure gate. A ground services shift manager took the couple back to the flight counters to take the baby and called the police and a security guard.”

A spokeswoman for Ryanair told CNN, “These passengers traveling from Tel Aviv to Brussels presented at check-in without a booking for their infant. They then proceeded to security leaving the infant behind at check-in. The check-in agent at Ben Gurion Airport contacted Airport Security, who retrieved these passengers, and this is now a matter for local police.”

“All the workers were in shock. We have never seen anything like that. We didn’t believe what we were seeing,” Ryanair staff at the airport said, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The couple were reportedly questioned by police after deserting their baby inside the Tel Aviv airport. The baby was returned to the parents.

A spokesman for Israel Police said the matter appeared to be resolved by the time police arrived on the scene. The spokesperson added, “The baby was with the parents and there’s no further investigation.”

The couple and their infant son did not make their flight, according to Israel Today.

Israeli outlet Channel 12 posted a purported video of the baby being abandoned at the airport. Airline employees appear to be shocked that the small baby was deserted by his parents at the ticket counter.

In Ramallah, Blinken Mourns ‘Innocent Palestinian Civilians’ Killed, Abbas Blames Israel

January 31, 2023 by Deborah Brand Leave a Comment

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas during a meeting in Ramallah on Tuesday he mourned the “innocent Palestinian civilians” killed over the past year in the West Bank. Of the Palestinians killed, the overwhelming majority were terrorists – most of them while they were carrying out attacks.

Abbas for his part said Israel was fully to blame for the escalation of violence, including the terror attacks in Jerusalem over the weekend which claimed the lives of 7 Israelis and injured several more.

The aging Palestinian expressed frustration at the U.S. and international community for not pressuring Israel in the face of “unilateral measures, including settlements, the de facto annexation of lands, settler terrorism, invasions of Palestinian areas, killings, house demolitions, displacing the Palestinians, altering the identity of Jerusalem, violating the historical status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque compound (Temple Mount), seizing Palestinian tax funds, as well as ethnic cleansing and apartheid.”

Regarding “settlements and the de facto annexation of lands,” Israel’s government has so far made no moves to extend sovereignty over the West Bank. Palestinian construction is far outpacing Jewish construction in Area C, the area of the West Bank where both Jewish and Palestinians live, with illegal Palestinian construction rising by 80 percent last year.

“Killings and house demolitions, displacing Palestinians” occurs only in the case that a terrorist carried out an attack against Israelis, and even this is subject to multiple legal hurdles and often takes months, a process that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week promised to expedite to deter future terrorist attacks.

“Altering the identity of Jerusalem, violating the historical status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque compound (Temple Mount)”. Israel maintains that it has done nothing to “alter the identity of Jerusalem,” which it upholds as the capital of the Jewish state, and has promised over and over to preserve the status quo of the Temple Mount. Only last week did Netanyahu repeat the assurance to Jordan’s King Abdullah II — despite some right-wing elements of his government calling for a change to the status quo, which currently means that Jews are forbidden from praying on the site — Judaism’s holiest – even under their breath.

“Seizing Palestinian tax funds” – Israel in 2018 passed a law requiring the government to withhold tax monies owed to the PA in the equivalent sums that the PA is estimated to pay out in its so-called pay-for-slay scheme, paying monthly salaries to terrorists and their families, something that Abbas himself has vowed he would pay until the last penny of Palestinian coffers.

“Ethnic cleansing and apartheid” – Israel is guilty of neither. In fact, Jerusalem’s Arab population has gone from 26 percent to 38 percent since Israel’s 1967 defensive Six Day War, when it liberated eastern Jerusalem from Jordanian occupation. There has been no decrease in populations, either in Israeli Arab cities or in Palestinian cities, throughout Israel’s history. In 1948, there were 150,000 Arabs in Israel. Today, there are 2 million Israeli Arabs, 20 percent of the population.

The Palestinian population in Gaza and the West Bank has increased ninefold since 1948. Arabs hold the highest positions of power in Israel, were in the last ruling government, and have served as Supreme Court justices.

In comments made after his meeting with Blinken, Abbas said that the Palestinians have always “shown commitment to renouncing violence and terrorism and honoring the agreements” with Israel.

“We are now ready to work with the American administration and the international community to restore political dialogue in order to end the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with east Jerusalem as its capital,” Abbas added.

“Our people won’t accept the continuation of the occupation forever.”

Israel to Expedite Civilian Gun Licenses After Jerusalem Attacks

January 29, 2023 by Deborah Brand Leave a Comment

Israel’s security cabinet approved measures to curb terrorism following deadly attacks in Jerusalem, including making it easier for Israeli civilians to carry guns and revoking residency and citizenship of terrorists.

“We will exact a price from those who carry out terrorist attacks and from their supporters,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting after two terror attacks rocked the capital.

The security cabinet passed a measure to make it easier for law-abiding Israeli citizens to procure licenses for carrying firearms, which in Israel is notoriously difficult.

“When civilians have guns, they can defend themselves,” National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, told reporters on Saturday night.

Netanyahu also said Israel would “strengthen [Jewish] settlements” in the West Bank “in order to make it clear to the terrorists who seek to uproot us from our land that we are here to stay.”

In perhaps the most controversial measure, Netanyahu said the cabinet would discuss “revoking Israeli identity cards and residency of the terror-supporting families of terrorists.”

The Prime Minister’s Office said that Israel’s acting interior minister as well as its attorney-general would submit draft legislation on “revoking residency and citizenship of terrorists and removing them to the territory of the Palestinian Authority.”

Seven people were murdered, including a minor, in a terrorist shooting attack on Friday evening in Jerusalem’s Neve Ya’akov neighborhood while they were leaving a synagogue after Shabbat services. The attack occurred on International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The terrorist, identified as Alqam Khayri, a 21-year-old resident of eastern Jerusalem, was shot dead by police while attempting to flee.

A second attack took place the morning after when a 13-year-old terrorist opened fire on a group of Israelis outside the Old City of Jerusalem, severely wounding two people, a father and son. The younger victim, an off-duty soldier, managed to shoot the terrorist, as did another member of the group, wounding him.

Mourners gather during the funeral of Eli Mizrahi and his wife, Natalie, who were victims of a shooting attack in east Jerusalem on January 27, 2023, in Bet Shemesh, Israel, on January 28, 2023. Both terrorists were from neighborhoods eastern Jerusalem, and as such have Israeli residency permits which grant them access to Israeli social security benefits including healthcare, welfare and unemployment payments and a range of other services.

A number of terrorists who carried out the attacks over the past year, which have left more than 30 Israelis dead, are Arab-Israelis with full Israeli citizenship. Such a move would see Israel stripping them of their rights.

Netanyahu called for arming more emergency response workers, who are often among the first people on the scene of a terror attack.

“Imagine if they … were armed,” he said, noting that history has shown “time and time again that heroic, armed, and trained civilians save lives.”
