Biden Signs Legislation to Declassify Coronavirus Origins, Overturn D.C. Crime Bill

March 20, 2023 by Jordan Dixon-Hamilton Leave a Comment

President Joe Biden signed a pair of bills into law on Monday that would declassify information related to the origins of the coronavirus and overturn the controversial Washington, DC, soft-on-crime bill.

The Covid-19 Origin Act, introduced by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), unanimously passed both chambers of Congress.

The bill directs the Director of National Intelligence to “declassify any and all information relating to potential links between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the origin” of the coronavirus.

Hawley introduced the legislation after the Department of Energy concluded, with “low confidence,” that the coronavirus could have originated from a Chinese laboratory.

Biden acknowledged the need to “get to the bottom” of the coronavirus’ origins in a statement on Monday.

“We need to get to the bottom of COVID-19’s origins to help ensure we can better prevent future pandemics,” Biden said in a statement. “My Administration will continue to review all classified information relating to COVID–19’s origins, including potential links to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

“In implementing this legislation, my Administration will declassify and share as much of that information as possible, consistent with my constitutional authority to protect against the disclosure of information that would harm national security,” Biden added.

On the same day, Biden signed a Republican-led effort to overturn D.C.’s crime bill. That crime bill reduced penalties for several violent offenses like carjacking, burglary, and robbery.

Although D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) vetoed the bill, the D.C. Council overrode the mayor’s veto by a 12-1 vote last month.

However, Congress can override local D.C. laws through a rarely used resolution of disapproval. Biden alienated members of his party when he signaled support for the GOP-led effort to overturn the crime bill.

“I support D.C. statehood and home-rule — but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the mayor’s objections — such as lowering penalties for carjackings,” the president tweeted on March 2. “If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did — I’ll sign it.”

Joe Manchin Slams Biden for Prioritizing ‘Radical Policy Agenda’ After Vetoing Anti-ESG Bill

March 20, 2023 by Jacob Bliss Leave a Comment

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) slammed President Joe Biden for vetoing a bipartisan anti-ESG bill and prioritizing a “radical policy agenda” over getting the “best financial returns for millions of Americans’ retirement investments.”

“This Administration continues to prioritize their radical policy agenda over the economic, energy, and national security needs of our country, and it is absolutely infuriating,” stated Manchin, who is up for reelection this cycle.

Manchin was referring to Biden issuing his first veto on Monday to reject a bipartisan bill, H.R. 30, that would nullify his Labor Department rule allowing left-wing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies to be considered in retirement investing.

“West Virginians are under increasing stress as we continue to recover from a once in a generation pandemic, pay the bills amid record inflation, and face the largest land war in Europe since World War II,” Manchin continued. “The Administration’s unrelenting campaign to advance a radical social and environmental agenda is only exacerbating these challenges.”

— Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) March 20, 2023

Ultimately, the Biden Labor Department rule enables fund managers to weigh climate change and prioritize ESG initiatives, a form of leftist activism in financial investing, when selecting retirement investments and exercising shareholder rights, such as proxy voting. It was also a rollback of a rule made under former President Donald Trump to protect Americans’ retirement plans.

The legislation passed the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and the Democrat-controlled Senate to get to the president’s desk. In the Senate, Manchin and Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) joined Republicans in passing the legislation opposing the rule.

“This ESG rule will weaken our energy, national and economic security while jeopardizing the hard-earned retirement savings of 150 million West Virginians and Americans,” the West Virginia senator stated. “Despite a clear and bipartisan rejection of the rule from Congress, President Biden is choosing to put his Administration’s progressive agenda above the well-being of the American people.”

Before Biden officially vetoed the legislation, the White House said the president would reject it if it were to pass Congress. The House has already scheduled a vote to override Biden’s veto on March 23; however, with the slim majority in Congress, it is unlikely that Congress can override Biden’s veto because it would require two-thirds support from both chambers.

In addition to Manchin, West Virginia state Treasurer Riley Moore — who has been leading the charge on the state level against ESG rules in addition to already announcing he would be running for Congress in 2024 — slammed the president for making it “clear” that he “stands with the woke capitalists and their radical globalist agenda instead of the best interests and financial security of the American people.”

“A bipartisan majority in Congress spoke loud and clear that they thought this rule was harmful and went too far, yet President Biden chose to ignore the will of the people’s elected representatives,” Moore further explained. “Congress is supposed to write the laws in this country, not unelected agency bureaucrats serving deep-state agendas.”

“This rule will allow Wall Street elites to use the pension and retirement plans of millions of hard-working Americans to advance left-wing social agendas that undermine our citizens’ values and way of life,” the state treasurer added.

Exclusive – Mike Cernovich: DeSantis Should Not ‘Even Bother Running’ if Trump Is Arrested

March 20, 2023 by Robert Kraychik Leave a Comment

Author and filmmaker Mike Cernovich said on Monday’s edition of the Breitbart News Daily podcast that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) should not run for the presidency in 2024 if former President Donald Trump is arrested, predicting that such an event would lead to a Democrat “blowout” victory.

Marlow said the left wants Trump to be the Republican presidential nominee for 2024, and intends to use an arrest of the former president as a catalyst to ensure Trump’s victory in the GOP race for the party’s presidential nomination.

“My take is it makes it more likely [Trump] will win a primary and less likely he will win a general,” Marlow assessed of a possible future arrest of Trump. “I think that’s been how the left has played this ever since he left office, to basically assure that Trump will be the nominee, and then assure that he will lose a general, because if Trump is the nominee then that gets all the anti-Trump vote out, and so then they don’t even have to worry about a pro-Biden vote or whatever, because Trump’s the nominee. That always feels like that’s been the tactic for me. It seems like that’s what’s playing out.”

Cernovich replied, “Yeah, I agree with you 100 percent. Trump wins the primary in such a landslide, so I would hope DeSantis, who I’m quite fond of, wouldn’t even bother running, because all he’s going to do is get a bloody nose over nothing.”

He continued, “Trump will win the primary, and then the other Democrats are going to come out to vote. If they see Trump as getting scalped, they’re going to love it — steady blood loss — and there will be a get-out-the-vote effort for the Democrats like you haven’t seen.”

Widespread Democrat contempt for Trump would generate a Democrat victory in 2024 if Trump secures the Republican presidential nomination, Cernovich held.

“Democrats aren’t high-propensity voters, necessarily, except when Trump’s on the ballot,” he remarked. ‘That’s why people go, ‘How did Joe Biden get more votes than Obama?’, because people hate Trump that much — I’m sorry — if you don’t know anyone who hates Trump, then I would encourage you to please get out of whatever bubble you are in.”

He went on, “I don’t understand why people don’t get it. Trump is the most-hated president in our lifetime by far, and if you don’t know people who hate him, then maybe you have bad social skills, and people are afraid to tell you because they think you’ll get angry or something at them.”

Cernovich warned that if Trump is the GOP’s presidential candidate, Democrats will win a “blowout” for the White House, U.S. House of Representatives, and possibly the U.S. Senate.

“But that’s what will happen in 2024, and there’ll be a record turnout of people who can’t wait to dance on that guy’s grave,” Cernovich concluded. “It will be a major Democrat get-out-the-vote. We’ll probably lose the House, and the Senate is supposed to be a better match for the Republicans in 2024, you might lose the Senate too. It’ll be a complete blowout.”

Biden White House Presser with ‘Ted Lasso’ Cast Goes Off the Rails: ‘You’re Making a Mockery of the First Amendment’

March 20, 2023 by David Ng Leave a Comment

A White House visit by the cast of the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso quickly devolved into chaos Monday when a reporter stole the spotlight by accusing Biden spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre of “making a mockery of the First Amendment.”

The Ted Lasso cast, including stars Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham, stood in awkward silence as Today News Africa reporter Simon Ateba berated Jean-Pierre for discriminating against certain journalists, saying she had not called on him for seven months.

“We’re not doing this,” Jean-Pierre repeatedly said in an attempt to quiet Ateba.

But he would not be silenced. “This is the U.S. This is not China. This is not Russia. What you’re doing is not right,” he continued. “What you are doing is you’re making a mockery of the First Amendment. It’s been seven months you’ve not called on me.”

Ateba didn’t appear to receive any support from his fellow journalists. In fact, they rallied behind Jean-Pierre and the celebrity visitors.

“Sorry to our guests. We apologize,” NBC News correspondent Kelly O’Donnell said.

Later, Jean-Pierre called Ateba’s outburst “unacceptable.”

“What has just occurred this last 10 or 15 minutes is unacceptable. It is unacceptable. So we are going to either continue to briefing, or we can just end the briefing right here,” she said.

Simon Ateba has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration, especially its COVID-related travel bans to certain African countries. He has repeatedly accused Jean-Pierre of trying to silence him,

The Ted Lasso cast was at the White House to promote the series’ third season, which began streaming last week. Officially, they were in Washington to discuss mental health issues.

Even President Joe Biden helped promote the show with a tweet taken just outside the Oval Office.

Joe Biden Issues First Veto to Reject Bill Reversing ESG Rule

March 20, 2023 by Jacob Bliss Leave a Comment

President Joe Biden issued his first veto on Monday, rejecting a bipartisan bill that would have reversed his Labor Department rule allowing left-wing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies to be considered in retirement investing.

“I just vetoed my first bill,” Biden said in a tweet announcing the move.

“This bill would risk your retirement savings by making it illegal to consider risk factors MAGA House Republicans don’t like,” Biden claimed. “Your plan manager should be able to protect your hard-earned savings — whether Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene likes it or not.”

The legislation Biden referred to was H.R. 30, a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution that would nullify Biden’s Labor Department ESG rule.

Ultimately, the rule enables fund managers to weigh climate change and prioritize ESG initiatives, a form of leftist activism in financial investing, when selecting retirement investments and exercising shareholder rights, such as proxy voting. It was also a rollback of a rule made under former President Donald Trump to protect Americans’ retirement plans.
