MSNBC's Reid: DeSantis Creating a 'White Nationalist Environment' — 'Can't Make White Children Feel Uncomfortable in School'

August 5, 2022 by Jeff Poor Leave a Comment

Friday, MSNBC host Joy Reid attacked Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for what she called an “Orban-ization” of the state’s education system, referring to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Reid called it a “white nationalist environment” and labeled it a prohibition on making “white children feel uncomfortable in school.”

“I see the most Orban-ization in somebody like DeSantis who has this sort of propaganda school that he’s sending teachers to in the summer where they teach them that Thomas Jefferson and George Washington opposed slavery and don’t bother to mention that they owned slaves, where he’s essentially forcing teachers to accept this indoctrination,” Reid said.

“He fired a U.S. state attorney who refused to prosecute people related to abortion,” she continued. Where he’s doing these openly authoritarian sort of Orbanist things, pushing what does feel like a version of white replacement theory, that you can’t make white children feel uncomfortable in school, that you can’t say anything about racism in the workplace, that you have to sort of create this sort of white nationalist environment everywhere or else.”

NBC reporter trips over facts when using Joe Biden's COVID-19 infection to slam Donald Trump: 'Let's remember'

July 22, 2022 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

NBC News correspondent Yamiche Alcindor tried to use news of President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 infection to slam former President Donald Trump.

But her attempt fell flat after Biden did exactly what she criticized Trump for doing.

What did Alcindor say?

Reacting to news of Biden’s infection on MSNBC, Alcindor drew a distinction between Biden and Trump, bringing attention to Trump not wearing a mask after he became infected.

“[T]hink about the fact that we now have two U.S. presidents in a row that have had tested positive for COVID, and I think what we’re gonna see here is likely a different sort of approach to it,” Alcindor said.

“Let’s remember his predecessor took off his mask even though it was sort of in the period where he could’ve possibly infected other people,” she added. “He didn’t want to talk about getting vaccinated at the White House.”

On the other hand, Alcindor afforded Biden the benefit of the doubt, claiming he would be different.

“President Biden, I suspect, just in talking to White House officials, is gonna remind people, ‘Yes, I could get it, which means you can get it, which means we all have to be vigilant about this,'” she said.

What did Biden do?

Just hours after the White House announced the infection — and that Biden is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms — the White House posted a photo of Biden working.

People quickly noticed the fact that Biden is maskless in the photo, meaning he potentially exposed the photographer to COVID. The White House confirmed the photo was snapped on Thursday.

u201cFolks, I’m doing great. Thanks for your concern. Just called Senator Casey, Congressman Cartwright, and Mayor Cognetti (and my Scranton cousins!) to send my regrets for missing our event today.nnKeeping busy!u201d

Being maskless while COVID-positive also violates guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Regardless of vaccination status, the CDC advises individuals who test positive for COVID to isolate from everyone in their home for five days, wearing a well-fitting mask when around others. Even when symptoms subside, guidelines recommend taking precautions for 10 days.

“Wear a well-fitting mask for 10 full days any time you are around others inside your home or in public. Do not go to places where you are unable to wear a mask,” the guidelines state.

Still, the White House defended the maskless photo.

“He took off his mask so that the American people could see him and see directly, you know, see the work that he’s doing and that he’s sitting at his desk continuing to do his work,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday at the daily press briefing.

MSNBC anchor openly questions if she is doing 'more harm than good' as media confidence plunges to record low

July 19, 2022 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

MSNBC anchor Katy Tur openly questioned recently whether she is doing “more harm than good” as a journalist.

What is the background?

Recent polling shows that American trust in media institutions has fallen to record lows.

According to Gallup, just 16% of American adults have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in newspapers. Only 11% said they have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in TV news.

Interestingly, the poll found that Democrats are much more likely than Republicans or independents to place confidence in newspapers or TV news. Perhaps the deviation is related to the mainstream media’s progressive bias.

What did Tur say?

Speaking in a recent interview about her new memoir, Tur explained why she considered quitting journalism when the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

There were two factors driving her consideration. First, she cited the “demoralizing” nature of many stories covered by the mainstream press. Then she explained how the growing distrust of the media played into her consideration.

“It’s something that I don’t have a concrete answer to, and that’s not because I don’t love journalism, I do, it’s just convergence of two issues,” Tur explained. “One of them being that we cover very dark stuff, in succession, and it seems like it’s getting darker and darker and it can be hard on your mental health.

“Then on top of that, there was just a Gallup poll out today that shows that the trusts in media — newspapers and television — is hitting an all-time low,” she continued.

“People don’t trust us. They don’t believe us,” she added. “And it makes me wonder if this job — as I’m currently doing it — is effective? But if it’s doing more harm than good.”

Not only do most American adults not place confidence in the mainstream press, but another Gallup poll found last year that American trust in the media to accurately and fairly report the news has dropped to a near-record low.

Newspaper and TV news journalists are also seen as among the least-ethical professionals.
