Parents abandon baby at Tel Aviv airport after failing to buy infant’s ticket: ‘We have never seen anything like that’

February 1, 2023 by Paul Sacca Leave a Comment

The parents reportedly did not purchase a ticket for their baby. Ryanair requires that travelers pay a $27 fee for an infant to sit on the lap of an adult on its flights. The check-in counters were already closed when the couple arrived, and a ticket for the baby could not be purchased.

The parents then allegedly left their baby at the check-in counter and rushed toward the boarding gate.

Israel’s Airport Authority said in a statement, “They left the baby and went to the security check-in at Terminal 1 to get to the departure gate. A ground services shift manager took the couple back to the flight counters to take the baby and called the police and a security guard.”

A spokeswoman for Ryanair told CNN, “These passengers traveling from Tel Aviv to Brussels presented at check-in without a booking for their infant. They then proceeded to security leaving the infant behind at check-in. The check-in agent at Ben Gurion Airport contacted Airport Security, who retrieved these passengers, and this is now a matter for local police.”

“All the workers were in shock. We have never seen anything like that. We didn’t believe what we were seeing,” Ryanair staff at the airport said, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The couple were reportedly questioned by police after deserting their baby inside the Tel Aviv airport. The baby was returned to the parents.

A spokesman for Israel Police said the matter appeared to be resolved by the time police arrived on the scene. The spokesperson added, “The baby was with the parents and there’s no further investigation.”

The couple and their infant son did not make their flight, according to Israel Today.

Israeli outlet Channel 12 posted a purported video of the baby being abandoned at the airport. Airline employees appear to be shocked that the small baby was deserted by his parents at the ticket counter.

Suburban Chicago school employee accused of stealing $1.5 million in chicken wings

January 31, 2023 by Paul Sacca Leave a Comment

Liddell, a food service director, is accused of stealing more than 11,000 cases of chicken wings, said to be worth $1.5 million, over a period of 19 months.

Liddell, who worked for the Harvey School District 152 for more than 10 years, allegedly started stealing the chicken wings during the pandemic. Students were learning remotely, but the school district was still providing meals for children to be picked up.

In January 2022, the district business manager conducted an internal audit that revealed the school district was over its annual food service budget by $300,000.

An auditor discovered that the school district was billed for “massive quantities of chicken wings,” and Liddell signed the invoices. However, chicken wings were never served to students because they contain bones.

The cases of chicken wings were reportedly picked up from Gordon Food Service by Liddell using a school district cargo van.

“Documents show that Liddell ordered the chicken wings separately from other food that was ordered for school use,” Patch reported. “However, Gordon Foods never questioned the orders, as it believed that Liddell was authorized to order the food as part of her role with the district.”

“The food was never brought to the school or provided to the students,” court records stated.

Prosecutors claimed that Liddell placed hundreds of unauthorized orders for food items between July 2020 and February 2022.

Harvey School District 152 interim superintendent Lela Bridges said she could not comment on the chicken wing theft because there is still an ongoing investigation. Bridges did say the school district was “fully cooperating with the authorities regarding this matter.” The case is being investigated by the Cook County State’s Attorney Office.

According to WGN-TV, more than 80% of the students in the school district qualify as low income.

Liddell is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 2.

Watch: 22-year-old basketball coach fired for posing as 13-year-old girl, high school team abandons season

January 31, 2023 by Paul Sacca Leave a Comment

The 13-year-old player missed the game because she was out of town, according to her father. Boykins posed as the absent girl and played in the tournament game against Nansemond River High School.

Video shows Boykins blocking a teen girl’s shot and racing past other players to score a layup for the Churchland Truckers. After the 22-year-old adult scored on teen girls, she celebrated.

The father of the 13-year-old girl told WAVY-TV, “Coaches always preach to the kids about integrity and those types of things, so I was just shocked.”

Portsmouth Public Schools public information officer Lauren Nolasco confirmed the termination of Boykins to USA Today. Not only was Boykins fired, but the junior varsity head coach and the varsity coach were terminated. The varsity coach was reportedly “encouraging the behavior” during the game.

Following a meeting between school officials, players from the JV and varsity teams, and parents, the Churchland High School girls’ junior varsity basketball team as well as the varsity team decided to abandon the rest of their seasons. The junior varsity team had a 12-2 record before the game involving cheating.

School officials said an investigation into the incident had been initiated.

The girl’s family told WAVY-TV that their daughter will not return to Churchland High School next year. The family is also demanding an apology from the school.

Sailor survives 24 days lost at sea by eating ketchup

January 20, 2023 by Paul Sacca Leave a Comment

A sailor survived 24 days lost at sea by eating ketchup and seasoning.

Elvis Francois, a citizen of Dominica, was working on his boat in St. Maarten in December. Francois said the weather suddenly became tempestuous and his sailboat drifted out to sea.

“I tried to [go] back to port, but I lost track because it took me a while to mount the sail and fix the sail,” Francois said in a video released by the Colombian navy.

“I call my friends, my coworkers. They tried to contact me, but they lost service,” he said. “There was nothing else I could do than sit down and wait.”

The 47-year-old sailor didn’t have any food on his boat except for a bottle of ketchup, garlic powder, and Maggi seasoning. Francois said he would mix up the limited ingredients with water as sustenance while he floated around the Caribbean Sea.

“So, I mixed it up with some water. So I had this to survive for 24 days in the sea,” he explained.

During storms at sea, he collected drinkable rainwater with a cloth. The sailor said that he constantly had to remove water from the small boat to prevent it from sinking. Francois said that he attempted to light a fire on the boat as a distress signal, but it was unsuccessful. He wrote out the word “HELP” on the boat’s hull.

More than three weeks after being lost at sea, the tiny sailboat was spotted by air some 120 nautical miles off the Guajira Peninsula in northern Colombia. The turbulent seas had pushed Francois approximately 700 miles southwest from his original starting point of St. Maarten.

The Colombian navy informed a container vessel in the area of the stranded sailor. Francois was brought on board the merchant ship CMA CGM Voltario and taken to the Port of Cartagena in Colombia for medical attention. Cmdr. Carlos Urbano Montes told the Associated Press that Francois was in good health, but had lost weight.

“Twenty-four days – no land, nobody to talk to, don’t know what to do, don’t know where you are — it was rough,” Francois said, according to NBC News.

Francois admitted that he lost faith while being lost at sea for 24 days, but one thing gave him hope.

“At a certain time, I lose hope. I think about my family,” Francois said on video.

Francois will be handed over to immigration authorities and taken back home.
