Washington Post Editorial Board: Trump Indictment a Poor ‘Test Case’ for Prosecuting a Former President

March 31, 2023 by Kristina Wong Leave a Comment

The Washington Post’s editorial board on Friday called the District Attorney of New York Alvin Bragg’s case against former President Donald Trump “shaky” and a “poor test case” for indicting a former president.

“Public perception and political strategy shouldn’t dissuade a district attorney from bringing a solid case, but neither should they persuade him to bring a shaky one,” the editorial board wrote on Friday.

On Thursday evening, news broke that the grand jury in Bragg’s case had voted to indict Trump. While the indictment has not yet been unsealed, it is widely expected that Bragg will bring state criminal charges against Trump for allegedly falsifying business records in 2016 to hide an alleged federal campaign finance violation.

Specifically, Bragg is expected to argue that Trump falsified business records by mislabeling a reimbursement to his then-lawyer Michael Cohen, who paid hush-money to porn actress Stormy Daniels, as legal expenses. Bragg is then expected to argue that Trump’s campaign did not report the payment to Daniels as a campaign expense, in violation of federal campaign rules.

Legal scholars on the right and left have also cast doubt over whether Bragg’s gambit will work, since it has never been proven there was any campaign finance violation, and there is doubt he can use a state criminal charge that is normally a misdemeanor and upgrade it to a felony by claiming it was done to hide another crime — in this case, the alleged campaign finance violation.

Michael Cohen, former personal attorney to President Donald Trump, exits federal court, November 29, 2018 in New York City. At the court hearing, Cohen pleaded guilty to making false statements to Congress about a Moscow real estate project Trump pursued during the months he was running for president. The Post‘s editorial board joined those scholars with its recent piece.

“Pyramiding two transgressions of state rules to go after a federal candidate is legally plausible. But the strategy is also novel, and courts may regard it with skepticism. What’s more, the potential campaign finance charge itself is shaky,” it wrote.

The editorial board noted that when federal prosecutors tried to charge former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) with a campaign finance violation for paying hush-money to a woman he had an affair with, Edwards successfully argued he was trying to prevent his wife from finding out rather than trying to benefit his campaign. The trial ended in an acquittal, and the Justice Department dropped the case.

The Post’s editorial board argued that although campaign finance violations should be taken seriously, there were potential downsides of indicting Trump. They argued that there were better cases to bring against Trump, and this case could put those in jeopardy:

This prosecution is now bound to be the test case for any future former president, as well as, of course, proceedings against this former president in particular — of which there are plenty. Other investigations underway include Justice Department examinations of the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and classified documents discovered at Mar-a-Lago, where the possibility of obstruction of justice is particularly grave. These are straightforward cases compared with the one proceeding in Manhattan. A failed prosecution over the hush-money payment could put them all in jeopardy, as well as provide Mr. Trump ammunition for his accusations of ‘witch hunt’ — in light of which House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was right to urge supporters to refrain from protesting.

It concluded: “This prosecution needs to be airtight. Otherwise, it’s not worth continuing.”

Tulsi Gabbard Slams ‘Politicized Indictment’ of Donald Trump

March 31, 2023 by Jacob Bliss Leave a Comment

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who left the Democrat party last year, slammed the “politicized indictment” of former President Donald Trump on Friday.

Gabbard, the one-time failed presidential candidate, claimed the “politicized indictment” of Trump is “just the latest example of the Dem establishment putting their own personal and partisan political interest ahead of the interests of the American people and our country.”

“It is a despicable, extremely dangerous turning point for our country,” Gabbard added.

The politicized indictment of former President Trump is just the latest example of the Dem establishment putting their own personal and partisan political interest ahead of the interests of the American people and our country. It is a despicable, extremely dangerous turning point…

— Tulsi Gabbard 🌺 (@TulsiGabbard) March 31, 2023

The former congresswoman from Hawaii’s comments was referring to the multiple reports that the Manhattan grand jury voted to indict the former president on Thursday for his alleged role in paying “hush money” to a porn star — Stormy Daniels. The felony indictment, filed under seal by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, will reportedly be announced in the coming days. However, it will reportedly include more than 30 counts related to business fraud.

Following the news Thursday night, Trump made a lengthy statement of his own, claiming the indictment is “Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history.”

He explained that the “Radical Left Democrats,” which he also referred to as “the enemy of the hard-working men and women of this Country,” have been engaged in a “witch-hunt” against him since before he became president — identifying the moment as when he first came down the elevator to announce his candidacy.

“You remember it just like I do: Russia, Russia, Russia; the Mueller Hoax; Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine; Impeachment Hoax 1; Impeachment Hoax 2; the illegal and unconstitutional Mar-a-Lago raid; and now this,” Trump added, while also acknowledging that the indictment of a former president has never been done before in the history of the United States.

Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle previously wrote that it remains unclear how and when Trump would face the reported charges but acknowledged that reports in recent weeks indicated the U.S. Secret Service has been working with officials in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office to coordinate such a possibility.

Nolte: Democrat Party’s Prosecutorial Abuse Crusade to Rig 2024 Election Has Only Begun

March 31, 2023 by John Nolte Leave a Comment

There are 19 months between now and Election Day 2024. Trust me, what the Democrats have in store to rig the 2024 presidential election through prosecutorial abuse has only just begun.

To begin with, you have to remember just how vile and depraved the Democrat party has become. To appease their demonic base, Democrats like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi openly advocate for child mutilation, gay porn in elementary schools, mentally ill men invading the girls’ locker rooms, and exposing little kids to the kind of depraved drag queens who want to expose themselves to kids.

What’s more, to hold on to a U.S. Senate seat, Democrats were willing to kill John Fetterman.

Additionally, Democrats have openly aligned with the rioters, murderers, and cop killers in Antifa and Black Lives Matter.

Democrats are so eager for power and to replace Americans with more compliant illegal immigrants, they are willing to flood our country with the poison of fentanyl and enable sex trafficking, including the trafficking of children.

When you are dealing with a political party and corporate media this boldly evil, nothing is off limits. Their only morality is that which furthers the fascist cause, and if mutilating and trafficking children further that cause, that makes the mutilation and trafficking moral.

In this environment, the prosecutorial abuse we have already seen and will continue to see should not surprise anyone with an IQ that rises over their body temperature.

Manufacturing a nonexistent crime to indict former President Trump, who just so happens to be the opposition party’s frontrunner, is only the beginning of the beginning of this prosecutorial abuse.

We have 19 months to go.

Wrap your minds around that: 19 months.

Look at the lay of the land, and then game out the possibilities…

The lay of the land is that people eager to mutilate children hold political and prosecutorial power. The possibilities are, therefore, endless…

We already know Trump will be booked, fingerprinted, possibly frog-marched before the cameras, and forced to pose for a mugshot.

We already know a criminal trial will happen, and the corrupt Democrat District Attorney Alvin Bragg will seek a Manhattan venue to seat a jury filled with rabid Trump haters.

Over 19 months, we can easily see a trial taking place and a verdict coming down.

Over 19 months, you can bet your life Bragg will pursue additional indictments.

Over 19 months, you can expect another indictment from a corrupt Democrat district attorney in Georgia, then possibly another trial, this one in Atlanta.

As our country regresses into a cesspool of recession, war, and violent crime, as His Fraudulency Joe Biden becomes weaker and more embattled with dementia, the Democrats have decided to rape every political norm they can get their hands on to ensure Trump loses.

Over the next 19 months, we will see corrupt prosecutors, lawyers, juries, and judges abuse their power and office to create as many political tripwires as possible to rig the 2024 election.

Do not be surprised if Trump is convicted, denied bail, and taken to prison in handcuffs.

The goal is to distract attention from the failing state of our country, gin up the Democrat base, and further the cause of Trump exhaustion.

Again, you cannot put anything past a political party willing to hold on to power through the mutilation of children.

We are in for a long 19 months.

Jim Jordan: Is Alvin Bragg Investigating Hunter’s Anonymous Art Sales in NYC?

March 31, 2023 by Wendell Husebo Leave a Comment

House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) questioned if Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is probing into Hunter Biden’s suspicious art sales to anonymous buyers — drawing a contrast between Bragg’s apparent lack of concern on that subject and his “outrageous” indictment of former President Donald Trump.

In total, Hunter has sold about 12 paintings for less than his asking price of $500,000, Washington Post reported. It is unclear how much money Hunter has made from his art, but estimates suggest he has earned at least five times more than the average American artist — all while being a novice painter.

“Is Alvin Bragg looking into Hunter Biden’s art sales and business records in New York City?” Jordan asked on Twitter Friday. “Outrageous.”

— Rep. Jim Jordan (@Jim_Jordan) March 31, 2023

The artwork sales to anonymous buyers have raised questions about who might have bought the art. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) said he is 95 percent sure Hunter’s sold artwork has found its way to China, potentially compromising the president.

The art market is known for corruption. A Senate subcommittee report detailed in 2020 how the art market can serve as a vehicle for money laundering:

The art industry is considered the largest, legal unregulated industry in the United States. Unlike financial institutions, the art industry is not subject to Bank Secrecy Act’s (“BSA”) requirements, which mandate detailed procedures to prevent money laundering and to verify a customer’s identity. While the BSA does not apply to art transactions by art dealers and auction houses, sanctions do. No U.S. person or entity is allowed to do business with a sanctioned individual or entity.

Despite the corruption in the art market, the White House has defended Hunter’s art sales to anonymous buyers. Others are more skeptical.

— Sam (@SamSullivan) February 6, 2023

“To ask for up to $500,000 is just a blatant payoff,” Adam Thompson, a prominent artist from Miami, told Breitbart News. “The real problem lies in the people who are buying it at the outrageous prices they’re selling for.”

Hunter’s artwork would likely be worth only “$4,000–$5,000” if he was not the president’s son, Thompson added. “It’s nowhere near as good as George W. Bush’s art.”

The president’s 53-year-old son has remained defiant toward his critics, responding “f*ck’em” when asked how he would respond to them.

Media Research Center: Elon Musk’s Twitter Censors *More* than Prior Year

March 31, 2023 by Lucas Nolan Leave a Comment

The Media Research Center has reported an increase in censorship and harsher penalties for users since Elon Musk took over as CEO of Twitter. Tweets critical of the transgender movement resulted in 62 percent of censorship since the company has been owned by alleged “free speech absolutist” Elon Musk.

According to a recently released study by the Media Research Center (MRC), Twitter has tightened its speech restrictions on the platform since Elon Musk bought the platform. The data gathered by the MRC’s CensorTrack.org database shows a marked increase in censorship cases under Musk’s leadership, despite his prior claims that he is a “free speech absolutist.”

From November 4, 2022, to March 4, 2023, there were 293 documented instances of censorship on Twitter, according to the MRC. Comparing this to the 226 cases reported during the same time period the year before, there has been a noticeable increase. The study also showed that censorship practices have gotten harsher.

“In 245 of the 293 (84%) documented cases of censorship on CensorTrack.org, Twitter locked users’ accounts, and in nearly all cases, users were required to delete the content to regain access to their accounts,” the MRC reported. In contrast, only 136 of the 226 (or 60%) documented cases under the previous Twitter administration involved locked accounts.

Furthermore, the MRC discovered that tweets criticizing transgenderism were involved in 62 percent of the censorship cases under Musk. “At least 182 of the 293 (62%) documented cases of censorship recorded in the CensorTrack.org database for Twitter under Musk involved users being censored for speech critical of the left’s woke ‘transgender’ narrative.”

.@elonmusk promised free speech on Twitter, but censorship is on the rise since he took over and @theMRC is currently suspended.

We deserve answers. https://t.co/PrzwnG0prR

— Brent Bozell (@BrentBozell) March 30, 2023

This escalating censorship has impacted numerous prominent users, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Federalist CEO Sean Davis, and several journalists. After a transgender shooter tragically murdered three children and three staff members at the Christian Covenant School in Nashvillle, Tennessee, multiple Twitter accounts were locked for reporting on the “Trans Day Of Vengeance.”

Davis was both locked out of his account and accused of promoting violence by Twitter, both of which he vehemently denies. Twitter justified the censorship by asserting that Davis’ tweet broke the platform’s “against violent speech” rules. “Twitter has a right to ban me for whatever reason it wants, but it doesn’t have a right to viciously lie about me,” Davis wrote in response to the ban.

Other users have also experienced Twitter’s more stringent censorship practices, including the senior editor of the Federalist, John Davidson, who was banned for tweeting that Rachel Levine, the transgender assistant secretary for health in the Biden administration, is biologically male. Davidson has been banned from his account for a full year. Since Musk bought Twitter, Davis and Davidson have both appealed their cases, but their accounts are still blocked.

Musk once referred to Twitter as the “de facto town square” and argued that “failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy.” However, the data and anecdotal evidence provided by the MRC’s study paint a different picture, suggesting that Musk’s vision of a “free speech absolutist” Twitter has not come to fruition.

“No amount of lofty rhetoric or grandiose plans from Musk about his love of free speech and facts can compete with the cold, hard reality that the service he owns doesn’t just oppose free speech; Twitter detests it,” Davis commented on the matter.
