Poll: America Will Blame Democrats Not Republicans for Debt Default, Shutdown

Americans will blame Democrats and not Republicans for the impending debt default and possible shutdown, a Wednesday Morning Consult/Politico poll revealed.

Registered voters were asked, “If the United States were to default on the national debt, would you tend to blame the Democratic party more, the Republican party more, or both parties equally?”

Thirty-three percent said they would blame Democrats. Sixteen percent said they would blame Republicans while 42 percent said they would blame both parties. Nine percent said they did not know.

When respondents were asked, “how much have you seen, read, or heard about” the necessity of Democrats raising the “U.S. debt limit before the borrowing limit is expected to be reached next month,” nine percent said “a lot,” 24 percent said “some,” and 26 percent said “not much,” and 41 percent said nothing at all.

The Democrat-controlled House on Tuesday passed a funding bill to the Democrat-controlled Senate for approval. Both branches must pass a funding bill and also suspend the debt limit within days to stop a government shutdown when current government funds dry up at the end of this month.

The legislation has a small chance of passing the Senate, where Democrats need ten Republican votes. Senate Republican are objecting because it includes a measure to raise the debt ceiling, which would clear the way for Democrats to pass over $4 trillion dollars worth of spending by a tactic called reconciliation, a process by which Democrats intend to bypass the ten Republican votes they must have to enact legislation.

Upon passage of the funding bill in the House, Democrats did not include funding for Israel’s Iron Dome.

Defunding the Iron Dome defense system is an insight into the Democrats’ panicked situation over passing the radical tax and spend measures. In order to help congressional Democrats fund the government, the White House suggested on Tuesday that Biden supports defunding military defense mechanisms for Israel.

The poll was conducted September 18-20 with 1998 registered voters. The margin of error 2 percent.

Poll: 62 Percent of Iowans Disapprove of Joe Biden's Performance

Only 31 percent of Iowans approve of Joe Biden’s job performance, a Tuesday Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll revealed.

In addition to Biden’s low approval numbers, 62 percent disapprove of Biden’s job performance. Seven percent were unsure.

The Des Moines Register reported Biden’s job approval has sunk 12 points since June, along with his disapproval numbers increasing ten points during the same duration of time.

The publication also reported Biden has not seen positive numbers in Iowa since March of 2021, when 47 percent approved and 44 percent disapproved of his performance.

The president’s polling numbers do not improve when zooming out nationally. For instance, Biden is now less popular than his former rival, Donald Trump, according to a Monday Harvard CAPS/Harris poll. Forty-eight percent of those surveyed indicated they have a positive view of Trump, compared to 46 percent who favor Biden.

On Sunday, Fox News asked respondents if Biden had enough “mental soundness” to be president. While 49 percent said yes, 48 percent said no.

The poll also asked if the country had become more united or divided under Biden. Fifty-four percent of the country said it is less united, and 37 percent said the country is more united since Biden took office.

Biden’s poor polling has also impacted the Democratic Party in Congress. The Democrat-ruled branch of government’s approval rating has dropped 13 points since Biden took office. With 35 percent of respondents approving of Congress in January of 2021, that number has since dropped to 22 percent in September.

The Register/Mediacom Iowa poll sampled 805 Iowa adults between September 12-15 with a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.

Biden’s Job Approval Plummets to 31 Percent in Iowa

One of the best pollsters in America finds Biden’s job-approval rating dropping like a rock in Iowa:

Thirty-one percent of Iowans approve of how Biden is handling his job, while 62% disapprove and 7% are not sure, according to the latest Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll.

That’s a 12 percentage point drop in approval from June, the last time the question was asked. Biden’s disapproval numbers jumped by 10 points during the same period.In June, 43% approved and 52% disapproved.

Biden’s job approval has not been in net positive territory in Iowa since March, when 47% of Iowans approved of his performance and 44% disapproved.

“This is a bad poll for Joe Biden, and it’s playing out in everything that he touches right now,” said pollster J. Ann Selzer.

Poll: Trump Dominates 2024 GOP Primary, Pence Leads DeSantis in Trump-less Field

A new national 2024 GOP presidential primary poll shows former President Donald Trump with a commanding lead but also that former Vice President Mike Pence leads a Trump-less field by double digits over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Surveying 490 registered Republican voters on September 15 and 16, the poll showed Trump in a dominant position atop the GOP and Pence on the rebound atop a Trump-less field and in second place behind Trump in a field with the former president. The poll was conducted by Harvard’s Center for American Political Studies (CAPS) and Harris.

“Trump drew 58 percent support when included, compared to Pence’s 13 percent and DeSantis’ 9 percent,” reported Florida Politics. “Sans Trump, Pence secured 32 percent support, while DeSantis had just 20 percent. Pence’s margin tripled.”

Without Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) stood in third place at just 14 percent.

The poll clearly shows that former President Trump still holds command over the GOP, which tracks with current trends showing he would beat President Joe Biden if the election were held again today. As the Hill noted:

Former President Trump is the clear favorite to win the GOP’s 2024 presidential nomination if he decides to mount another bid for the White House, according to a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released exclusively to The Hill on Monday.

Nearly 6 in 10 Republican voters surveyed — 58 percent — say they would vote to put the former president back on the ballot in 2024, suggesting the party is ready and willing to give Trump another chance after his 2020 loss to President Biden.

No other potential 2024 Republican candidate comes close to matching Trump. Former Vice President Mike Pence notches a distant second place with 13 percent support among GOP voters, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a rising star in the Republican Party, scored only 9 percent support in a primary field that includes Trump.

As to whether respondents favored Trump’s performance while in office, the poll shows that 51 percent think Trump was a better president than his successor, while 49 percent favor Joe Biden.

Mark Penn, the co-director of the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey, told the Hill that Trump holds a “strong lead” over potential 2024 candidates, even going so far as to blame social media giants Facebook and Twitter for the former president’s popularity.

“While defeated candidates rarely come back, Trump has a strong lead in the Republican primary especially among the most dedicated Republicans,” Penn said.

“Facebook may have done Trump a favor as since he is out of the daily social media traffic his numbers have risen to an unprecedented 48 percent favorable,” Penn added. “But the polarizing opinions on Trump make him today as likely to sink the Republican Party as help its return.”

Poll: Whitmer Crashing in Michigan, Majority of Independents Turn Against Her

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) job approval is crashing in her state, as she has lost the support of the majority of independent voters.

Less than half (48 percent) of registered voters in Michigan approve of the governor, according to the poll from Glengariff Group. The poll also found that 46 percent of registered voters disapprove of her.

The poll from the Glengariff Group was commissioned by the Detroit Regional Chamber, which endorsed the governor over Bill Schuette, a Republican who ran for governor in 2018.

A significant part of the governor’s decline in numbers is from independent voters. The poll found the majority (51 percent) disapproves of the governor. Only 39 percent approved of Whitmer.

There is a significant shift from Whitmer’s poll numbers a year ago. In September of last year, 59 percent of the registered voters approved of the governor’s performance, and only 38 percent disapproved. This past May, her disapproval numbers grew in another poll, as only 50 percent approved of the governor and 44 percent disapproved.

A pollster with the Lansing-based Glengariff Group, Richard Czuba, told the Detroit News, “Michigan elections are decided by independent voters and how she does with these independent voters moving forward will really dictate” her future moving into the midterm elections.

Additionally, the poll found that 86 percent of the registered voters were worried about inflation, and 58 percent said the economy is on the wrong track.

The Glengariff Group poll was commissioned by the Detroit Regional Chamber and conducted between August 31 and September 3. The poll surveyed 600 registered voters. There is a four percent margin of error in the poll.

Responding to Whitmer’s lousy poll numbers, the Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action, Eric Ventimiglia, said, “Hardworking Michiganders have had enough of Governor Whitmer’s failed policy agenda and her never ending string of controversies.”

“While Whitmer has focused her time and energy on ingratiating herself with the Biden administration and playing to a national liberal audience, she’s left behind seniors, small business owners, and taxpayers across the state,” Ventimiglia added.
