Poll: Trump Takes 26-Point Lead in Republican Primary

March 24, 2023 by Hannah Bleau Leave a Comment

Former President Donald Trump has a 26-point lead in the hypothetical 2024 Republican presidential primary race, March’s Harvard-Harris Poll found.

The survey asked GOP respondents, “If the Republican presidential primary for the 2024 election was held today, who would you vote for?”

Trump garners 50 percent of the vote — up four points from the previous survey. No other potential challenger comes close, as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came in second place with 24 percent support.

Former Vice President Mike Pence came in third place with seven percent support, followed by former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley (five percent), Sen. Ted Cruz (2 percent), Sen. Tim Scott (2 percent), former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (one percent), Sen. Marco Rubio (one percent), and anti-woke businessman Vivek Ramaswamy (zero percent).

Another two percent said “someone else,” and six percent remain unsure:

2024 National Republican Primary

• Trump — 50%
• DeSantis — 24%
• Pence — 7%
• Haley — 5%
• T. Scott — 2%
• Pompeo — 1%
• Rubio — 1%

2-Way:
• Trump — 56%
• DeSantis — 44%

When asked who they would support in a primary absent of Trump, DeSantis takes the sizable lead with 45 percent support. Pence comes in 32 points behind with 13 percent support, and Haley comes in third with five percent support. In that scenario, 14 percent remain unsure of whom they would support.

The survey also asked respondents who they would support in a scenario that just had Trump and DeSantis. In a head-to-head matchup, Trump leads by 12 points, or 56 percent to the Florida governor’s 44 percent support. Trump also demolishes Haley in a head-to-head, leading her by 40 percent, or 70 percent to his challenger’s 30 percent.

Further, the poll found most Republican and independent respondents, 57 percent, predicting that Trump will win the primary. Meanwhile, 41 percent of those who predicted he will lose believe DeSantis — who has yet to announce a presidential bid — will win the GOP nomination.

Notably, this survey shows both Trump and DeSantis defeating Biden in a head-to-head matchup, by four points and three points, respectively.

The survey was taken March 22-23, 2023, among 2,905 registered voters and comes as Trump continues to grow his support in recent polls, particularly following the news of a looming indictment at the hands of woke leftist prosecutor Alvin Bragg. Forthcoming surveys, however, should soon reveal how the public feels about DeSantis — who has been waning in recent polls — and his response to the rumored arrest, as he troubled many conservatives after dismissing it as a non-issue.

“We are not involved in this [and] won’t be involved in this,” he said on Monday, angering some conservatives. “I have no interest in getting involved in some type of manufactured circus by some Soros DA, ok?”

Poll: 2 in 10 Democrats Support Biden in Hypothetical 2024 Primary Matchup

March 24, 2023 by Hannah Bleau Leave a Comment

Only two in ten Democrats support President Joe Biden in a hypothetical 2024 primary matchup, a March survey from McLaughlin & Associates found.

While former President Donald Trump dominates in the hypothetical 2024 Republican presidential field, leading his closest potential challenger, Gov. Ron DeSantis, by 23 percent, Biden does not have as clear a lead in the hypothetical 2024 Democrat primary race.

Just 23 percent of Democrats said they would support Biden in the Democrat primary race, compared to 46 percent of Republicans who support Trump. Former first lady Michelle Obama comes in seven points behind Biden with 16 percent support, followed by Harris (eight percent), Sen. Bernie Sanders (seven percent), Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (6 percent), and twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (five percent). No other potential Democrat candidate listed saw over three percent support. Further, Biden’s 23 percent support reflects a three-point drop over the last month alone:

2024 National Democratic Primary:

Biden 23%
M. Obama 16%
Harris 8%
Sanders 7%
Buttigieg 6%
Clinton 5%
Ocasio-Cortez 3%
Newsom 3%
O’Rourke 3%
Warren 2%
Booker 2%
Klobuchar 2%

The survey also asked respondents:

Now, if the 2024 Presidential election were held today, which one of the following best describes how you would vote in the general election for President between Donald Trump, the Republican candidate and Joe Biden, the Democrat candidate, for whom would you vote?

Trump has a five-point edge over Biden, leading his potential competitor 48 percent to the Democrat’s 43 percent in the survey taken March 16-20, 2023.

Notably, Trump has a two-point edge among independents — 43 percent to Biden’s 41 percent, while 16 percent remain undecided. Further, Trump also sees support from 12 percent of Democrats, while eight percent of Republicans said they would support Biden.

Similarly, Trump also leads Vice President Kamala Harris in a potential matchup, 48 percent to 42 percent.

The survey comes as Biden’s wife, first lady Jill Biden, expresses that she is “all” in for her husband to run again in 2024.

“Well, he said he intends to run. So nothing’s been planned yet,” she said during a February appearance on CNN, adding that it is “Joe’s decision.”

“And we support whatever he wants to do. If he’s in, we’re there. If he wants to do something else, we’re there too,” she said.

When asked if there is “any chance at this point that he’s not going to run,” Biden replied, “Not in my book.”

A recent survey from The Economist/YouGov found 56 percent stating they do not want Biden to run for president in 2024. That includes more than one-third of Biden 2020 voters.

Poll: Donald Trump Gains Support in Last Month, Ron DeSantis Drops

March 23, 2023 by Hannah Bleau Leave a Comment

Former President Donald Trump has gained support in the hypothetical 2024 presidential primary race over the last month, the March survey from McLaughlin & Associates found.

The survey, taken March 16- 20, 2023, asked Republican primary voters who they would support for president out of a wide range of potential candidates. The list includes former President Donald Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley, Sen. Mitt Romney, former Rep. Liz Cheney, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, Virginia Gov. German Youngkin, Sen. Tim Scott, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former national security adviser John Bolton, and anti-woke businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.

According to the most recent data, Trump leads the pack with 46 percent support, followed by DeSantis, who garnered 23 percent support. For Trump, that reflects an increase from the 42 percent support he saw last month — a four-point jump. Meanwhile, DeSantis’s 23 percent support represents an eight percent drop from the 31 percent support he saw in January and three percent drop from the 26 percent he saw in February.

In other words, Trump’s lead over DeSantis has expanded from 12 percent in January, to 16 percent in February, to a 23 point gap in March:

No other candidate comes close, as Pence comes in third with eight percent support, followed by Haley (5 percent), Romney (3 percent), and Cheney (3 percent). Every other candidate saw one percent support or less.

The survey also asked Republican primary voters who they would vote for absent of Trump, replacing the former president with his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. In that scenario, DeSantis takes the clear lead with 35 percent support, followed by Trump Jr. with 14 percent support.

When placed in a head-to-head matchup, Trump leads DeSantis 61 percent to 31 percent. Trump also holds the lead among independents, 48 percent to 39 percent in that scenario:

2024 National Republican Primary:

Trump 46% (+23)
DeSantis 23%
Pence 8%
Haley 5%
Romney 3%
Cheney 3%
Abbott 1%
Sununu 1%
Bolton 1%
Youngkin 1%
T. Scott 1%
Pompeo 0%
Ramaswamy 0%

The results coincide with Tuesday’s Morning Consult survey, which also showed the trend of Trump gaining in support amid rumors of an impending arrest at the hands of woke leftist prosecutor Alvin Bragg. That survey showed Trump expanding his lead over DeSantis from +24 to +28 in the last week:

Poll: Biden Approval Slumps to Near Lowest Point of Presidency

March 23, 2023 by Simon Kent Leave a Comment

Approval of President Joe Biden has dipped to near the lowest point of his tenure in office, a poll released Thursday reveals.

The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research conducted the polling and the results chart fluctuations in voter support for Biden over recent months.

The president notched an approval rating of 38 percent in the poll, after 45 percent said they approved in February and 41 percent in January. His ratings hit their lowest point of his presidency last July, at 36 percent, as the full weight of rising gasoline, food and other costs began to hit U.S. households.

The polling further sets out doubts surround the president’s handling of the national economy and his ability to project authority as he charts the nation’s economic course in an increasingly troubled world marked by inflation and bank failures.

Just Another Tuesday — Biden Stumbles, Coughs Through Boring Speech

White House

Just 31 percent approve of Biden’s economic stewardship, hovering where it’s been over the course of the last year.

Biden has previously lashed out at voters blaming him for inflation and economic misfortunes, as Breitbart News reported.

“I’m sick of this stuff… The American people think the reason for inflation is the government spending more money,” Biden angrily said in a rambling speech 12 months ago at a Democrat policy retreat about issues facing his presidency.. “Simply. Not. True.”

Despite his protestations, the 80-year-old’s handling of the nation’s economic fortunes has been a weak point at least since late 2021, when the inflation the administration had suggested was transitory became a bigger load for businesses and families.

Biden told Americans inflation would be “temporary” exactly one year ago today. https://t.co/FYcnTDsyEw

— Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) July 19, 2022

The AP numbers set out further differences in perceptions of Biden’s economic leadership:

The difference between Biden’s approval overall and his approval on the economy is driven largely by Democrats, 76% of whom say they approve of how he’s handling his job as president while 63% approve of his handling of the economy. Few Republicans approve of Biden on either count.

Democrats under the age of 45 feel less positive about Biden, causing a drag on his approval ratings. Just 54% approve of the president’s economic leadership, compared to 72% of Democrats older than 45. Similarly, just 66% of Democrats under 45 approve of Biden overall, compared to 85% of older Democrats.

The poll of 1,081 adults was conducted Mar. 16-20 using a sample drawn from NORC’s probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population. The margin of sampling error for all respondents is plus or minus 4.0 percentage points.

Poll: Trump Sees Another Boost amid Rumors of Looming Arrest, DeSantis Drops

March 21, 2023 by Hannah Bleau Leave a Comment

Former President Donald Trump experienced yet another boost this week amid rumors of a looming arrest, the latest Morning Consult survey, released Tuesday, found.

This week’s Morning Consult survey demonstrates gains for the former president, as he now has 54 percent support — up from 52 percent recorded last week. Meanwhile, his closest potential competitor, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, lost two points, going from 28 percent to 26 percent. In other words, Trump’s lead jumped from +24 to +28 in the last week:

2024 Republican primary polling trends by Morning Consult

Jan 2:
• Trump — 45% (+11)
• DeSantis — 34%

Feb 25:
• Trump — 48% (+18)
• DeSantis — 30%

March 14:
• Trump — 52% (+24)
• DeSantis — 28%

MARCH 19:
• Trump — 54% (+28)
• DeSantis — 26% pic.twitter.com/wh35GXRYII

— InteractivePolls (@IAPolls2022) March 21, 2023

No other potential candidate comes close, as former Vice President Mike Pence remained consistent, coming in third place with seven percent support. Presidential candidate Nikki Haley followed with four percent support, and former Rep. Liz Cheney came one point behind with three percent support. No other potential candidate saw greater than one percent support.

Morning Consult described Trump’s lead as such:

Trump Continues to Lead DeSantis: As Trump awaits potential indictment on charges related to a 2016 hush money scheme with adult-film star Stormy Daniels, he has posted one of his largest polling leads in the 2024 Republican primary. The latest survey shows 54% of potential primary voters support the former president, compared with 26% who are backing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, tying his expected opponent’s lowest level of support since tracking began in December.

As has been relatively consistent in prior surveys, a plurality of DeSantis voters, 43 percent, choose Trump as their second-choice candidate, and 46 percent of Trump voters choose DeSantis as their second choice.

The survey was taken March 17-19, 2023, among 3,394 potential Republican primary voters. Notably, Trump announced the impending arrest on Saturday, March 18, meaning this survey was taken in the midst of that news. However, DeSantis did not weigh in on the issue until Monday, March 20, meaning the survey does not necessarily reflect the GOP’s reaction to DeSantis’s position on the matter.

Many conservatives are frustrated with the governor after he condemned the woke leftist prosecutor Alvin Bragg but ultimately concluded that his administration is “not going to be involved” with a “manufactured circus by some Soros [backed] DA.”

“But what I can speak to is that if you have a prosecutor who is ignoring crimes happening every single day in his jurisdiction, and he chooses to go back many, many years ago, to try to use something about porn star hush money payment,” DeSantis said, concluding that he has “real issues” to deal with in Florida.

WATCH: Ron DeSantis Breaks Silence on Rumored Trump Indictment:
Ron DeSantis / Rumble

That did not sit well with several high-profile Republicans, including Trump’s sons and others:

So DeSantis thinks that Dems weaponizing the law to indict President Trump is a “manufactured circus” & isn’t a “real issue”

Pure weakness. Now we know why he was silent all weekend. He’s totally owned by Karl Rove, Paul Ryan & his billionaire donors. 100% Controlled Opposition. https://t.co/3fT06rlbH5

— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) March 20, 2023

Shouldn’t matter if you hate Trump or not, there isn’t any issue more real & more important to push back against than Dems weaponizing the government to target their political opponents. Any Republican who can’t figure that out, doesn’t truly understand what we’re all up against. https://t.co/CwNJgWiqGn

— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) March 20, 2023

Until that day where they do the exact same thing to him, his friends and his family… at which time he will neither have the backbone, nor the resources, to fight off the corrupt system. He’s not the guy I though he was… https://t.co/VDPPcuMbG7

— Eric Trump (@EricTrump) March 20, 2023

DeSantis, America’s greatest governor, believes using selective prosecution against Republican candidates is a “sideshow.” He greatly misunderstandings the threats to this country arising from Soros DA’s. Democrats want to put conservatives in gulags. There is no bigger issue.

— Cernovich (@Cernovich) March 20, 2023

Anyone surprised by this? Been saying this forever: Desantis is a good Governor but he is establishment and will be a major disappointment to those who think otherwise.
