Video: Thieves target charity, quickly realize they underestimated a 76-year-old nun and the power of prayer

January 22, 2023 by Paul Sacca Leave a Comment

A 76-year-old nun thwarted an attempted robbery at a charity in Buffalo, New York.

In the early hours of Jan. 14, two thieves used a ladder to climb onto the roof of a charity in Buffalo. Thieves targeted the Response to Love Center – a faith-based charity that assists the impoverished in Buffalo. The robbers allegedly wanted to steal copper pipes.

Sister Mary Johnice Rzadkiewicz, the director of the center, woke up early to pray. She heard the commotion outside the charity and went to investigate.

Sister Johnice told WKBW-TV, “So, I opened the door and saw a ladder — here’s a ladder over here, and I walked out, and I looked up, and said, ‘Get out of here. How dare you do this to God’s property — this is his mission!'”

The elderly nun summoned all of her strength to yank the ladder off the building, leaving the crooks stranded on the roof.

She told the Buffalo News, “I threw the ladder down, which was huge as could be, and lo and behold, they ran away.”

The nun added, “When I took that ladder and knocked it down — I amazed myself when I see it now.”

Sister Johnice said she was “fearless” because her “adrenaline was going.” The nun noted that she could “feel the evil.”

The Response to Love Center shared photos of the suspects on its Facebook, and asked for the public’s help to identify the would-be thieves.

The Facebook post called the suspects “morons” because the thieves likely tried to steal copper downspouts from the Response to Love Center. However, the center’s downspouts are made of aluminum and “worth only pennies.”

Mike Gilhooly, the assistant director at the Response to Love Center, described Sister Johnice as a “tough cookie.”

The fearless nun said of the suspects, “But it has to be somebody who’s greedy — selfish — somebody who is very broken — I’m sure desperation did it. You know it’s only gutters — it’s only pipes, but what if it’s a life? But God does not want this to be a battlefield for people — a fearful place.”

“They could have come here for food or clothing. They could have come for a kind word, some guidance, but they chose a different route,” she said. “That is not of God, that is evil. I just wish I could meet them.”

Sister Johnice said, “Every day I’ve been praying for these two thugs.”

The nun is keeping the ladder. She calls it “Jacob’s ladder,” after the story in the Bible about Jacob dreaming about a ladder stretching from heaven to earth.

Last week, “divine intervention” prevented a thief from stealing a St. Michael the Archangel from a church.

Thief tries to steal St. Michael the Archangel statue from church — then karma strikes with great vengeance

January 19, 2023 by Paul Sacca Leave a Comment

A would-be robber nearly pulled off the theft of a St. Michael the Archangel statue from a church in Mexico. However, the pilfering was thwarted by one consequential misstep by the thief.

During the early hours of Jan. 14, a man broke into the Christ the King Parish in Monterrey, Mexico, approximately 150 miles from the border with Texas. Carlos Alonso, 32, reportedly hopped over a fence, smashed a glass door, and broke into the Christ the King Parish.

The man tried to steal a statue of St. Michael the Archangel. According to local reports, the thief was intoxicated during the attempted robbery.

While attempting to steal the holy statue, Alonso allegedly tripped and fell on top of Saint Michael’s sword. During the stumble, the man seriously injured his neck.

ABC Noticias said, “The tip of the Archangel’s sword pricked the neck of the alleged 32-year-old thief.” The Mexican media outlet called the thief’s karmic self-sabotage “a matter of divine justice.”

A passerby witnessed the severely injured man clutching his neck at the church and called for emergency medical help.

The Catholic News Agency reported, “Monterrey Civil Protection personnel arrived at the scene, cut the padlock on the main gate of the fence, and saved the would-be thief’s life.”

The man initially declined medical treatment for his wounds. However, the drunk man was taken to a clinic for medical treatment of his injured neck.

Monterrey Police will reportedly turn over Alonso to the public prosecutor’s office once he is out of the hospital. The statue of St. Michael the Archangel was unharmed. The owner of a store that sells religious items across from the Christ the King Parish believes that karma struck down the would-be thief.

“That happened to him for doing bad things,” the store owner said. “Saint Michael is for protection, to combat evil, I think that’s why that happened to him.”

A neighbor added that St. Michael the Archangel is “the great protector.”

Saint Michael is an archangel, protector, and leader of the army of God against the forces of evil. Saint Michael is often depicted with a flaming sword and scales of justice.

St. Michael triumphantly defeats Satan and his hordes, banishing them from heaven, according to the Bible.

Revelation 12:7-10:

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found anymore in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the Earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”

No charges for gas station clerk who blasted suspected armed robber: ‘I’m not happy I had to shoot him, but I’m not stressing’

January 19, 2023 by Joseph MacKinnon Leave a Comment

An Arizona clerk proved unwilling to end up buried while working the graveyard shift this week at a gas station in Avondale.

Brian (who has also been referred to as Ryan in some reports) was working at the Chevron gas station Wednesday morning on 107th Avenue and Indian School Road. Around 5:15 a.m., a potential robber barged in, waving a handgun and jabbering about money.

While the robber was unintelligible on account of his face covering, Brian told KSAZ-TV that “he didn’t need to say anything.”

“The moment he pointed the gun at me, it was pretty obvious what he was there for,” the clerk told the station.

When the suspect took aim at a customer, Brian reckoned it was pretty obvious what he in turn had to do.

“I had the opening to pull my gun and shoot,” the clerk told KPNX. “That’s pretty much the whole thing.”

Brian elsewhere underscored that he has long trained with a gun.

According to police, the “suspect became distracted by another person in the store and the store employee took the opportunity to pull out and use his own firearm, shooting and injuring the suspect.”

“I’m not happy I had to shoot him, but I’m not stressing. The moment he pulled the gun on me he set the situation and I just followed it. He made the situation what it was,” added Brian.

An employee told the Arizona Republic that “everybody is fine,” except, of course, for the suspect who was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Brian will reportedly not be charged for restoring order at dawn.

Despite this outcome, Joshua Black, an employment attorney, suggested to AZ Family, “My advice would be to someone working at a gas station would be, do not carry a gun. Do not bring a gun. There is nothing at that job that is worth risking your life.”

There is no shortage of robbery survivors who might feel compelled to discount Black’s recommendation.

A clerk at Blackhawks Tobacco & Vape in Rock Island, Illinois, was reportedly confronted by three robbery suspects Tuesday night, one of whom threatened him and his customers with a gun.

When one of the robbers allegedly took aim at a customer, the clerk readied his firearm and “emptied the magazine” into the suspect. No innocents perished in the incident.

TheBlaze reported in July that a female clerk in Texas was reportedly robbed and attacked by a knife-wielding suspect. Owing to the clerk’s quick thinking, she survived survived with only minor injuries, having shot the robber, who was later taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Extra to those Black’s recommendation may not resonate with, there are also unarmed robbery victims who might have otherwise benefitted from firepower like Brian’s.

For instance, a 67-year-old Exxon gas station clerk working the graveyard shift in northeast Philadelphia was fatally gunned down earlier this week during a similar robbery.
