YouTube demonetizes Russell Brand over sexual assault allegations that he denies: ‘Off-platform behaviour harms our users’

September 19, 2023 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

YouTube announced Tuesday that it has demonetized Russell Brand and blocked him from earning money on the social media platform.

“We have suspended monetisation on Russell Brand’s channel for violating our Creator Responsibility policy. If a creator’s off-platform behaviour harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action to protect the community,” YouTube said in a statement.

The company confirmed the action is related to “serious allegations” made against Brand.

Brand’s main YouTube channel boasts more than 6.6 million subscribers. The account is likely a significant source of income, which is now cut off. YouTube said its decision “applies to all channels that may be owned or operated by Russell Brand.”

Over the weekend, multiple British news outlets published a joint investigation into the 48-year-old British comedian in which multiple women accused Brand of sexual assault and rape. The alleged incidents took place between 2006 and 2013.

According to the story, the women “felt ready to speak only after being approached by reporters. Several said they felt compelled to do so given Brand’s newfound prominence as an online wellness influencer, with millions of followers on YouTube and other sites.”

Brand has vehemently denied the allegations.

He said in a video over the weekend that all of his relationships have been “absolutely, always consensual.” He accused the media of “trying to construct” a “coordinated attack” against him.

Since the allegations surfaced, Brand’s management agency has dropped him, and his book publisher has suspended “all future publishing” with Brand. The BBC even removed some content involving Brand.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police in London confirmed a police report was filed on Sunday — one day after the joint investigation was published — about a sexual assault in 2003 allegedly involving Brand, the BBC reported.

The Metropolitan Police, however, have not confirmed a formal investigation into the allegations or Brand.

Celebrities support Russell Brand after he is accused of raping 4 women, actor ‘absolutely refutes’ allegations that he calls a ‘coordinated attack’

September 16, 2023 by Paul Sacca Leave a Comment

Russell Brand has been accused of rape by four women. The British actor has already vehemently denied all of the alleged sexual assaults that are said to have happened a decade or more ago.

The sexual assault accusations were presented to the public by a joint investigation by The Times, The Sunday Times, and Channel 4 Dispatches. According to the report, Brand is accused of sexually assaulting four women between 2006 and 2013.

A woman alleged that Brand raped her against a wall inside his home in Los Angeles, California. She was reportedly treated at a rape crisis center on the same day.

Hours after leaving his house, the woman allegedly texted Brand: “When a girl say[s] NO it means no.” Brand reportedly replied that he was “very sorry.”

Another woman claimed a 31-year-old Brand assaulted her when she was 16. She alleged that she punched Brand in the stomach to force him to stop during oral sex.

The article does not indicate where the purported sexual assault happened. The age of consent in England is 16.

A third woman accused Brand of sexually assaulting her when they worked together in Los Angeles. She said that the actor threatened to take legal action against her if she told anyone about the accusation.

The fourth female said Brand sexually assaulted her and subjected her to physical and emotional abuse.

The women were anonymous.

According to The Times, “All said they felt ready to speak only after being approached by reporters. Several said they felt compelled to do so given Brand’s newfound prominence as an online wellness influencer, with millions of followers on YouTube and other sites.”

Before the accusations were published, Brand addressed the “very serious criminal” allegations in a video. He denied the accusations, and said all of his relationships were “absolutely, always consensual.”

“I’ve received two extremely disturbing letters, or a letter and an email, one from a mainstream media TV company, one from a newspaper, listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks,” Brand said in the video posted on Friday. “But amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks, are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.”

“These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies,” he continued. “And as I’ve written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous. Now during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely, always consensual.”

“I was always transparent about that then — almost too transparent,” the 48-year-old actor stated. “And I’m being transparent about it now as well. And to see that transparency metastasized into something criminal, that I absolutely deny.”

Brand explained, “I don’t mind them using my books and my stand-up to talk about my promiscuous, consensual conduct in the past. What I seriously refute are these very, very, serious criminal allegations.”

“Also, it’s worth mentioning that there are witnesses whose evidence directly contradicts the narratives that these two mainstream media outlets are trying to construct apparently, in what seems to me to be, a coordinated attack,” he said.

“Now, I don’t want to get into this any further, because of the serious nature of the allegations, but I feel like I’m being attacked and plainly they are working very closely together,” Brand said.

Brand concluded, “We are obviously going to look into this matter because it’s very, very, serious. In the meantime, I want you to stay close, stay awake, but more important than any of that, if you can, please stay free.”

Brand made a name for himself as a comedian and actor. However, in recent years he has branched out to video commentary. He has over 6.6 million followers on YouTube and nearly 1.4 million on Rumble. Russell’s videos tend to focus on being anti-establishment, being anti-war, questioning the media narrative, challenging big pharma, being critical of the military-industrial complex, and finding common ground between the left and the right.

Other celebrities have questioned the motive behind the accusations surfacing years later.

Elon Musk tweeted with a reference to the mainstream media, “Of course. They don’t like competition.”

Tucker Carlson said, “Criticize the drug companies, question the war in Ukraine, and you can be pretty sure this is going to happen.”

Jordan Peterson stated, “Someone wants Russell Brand destroyed.”

Lara Logan replied, “Millions see through this – literally millions. These tactics no longer work the way they used to.”
