Boos erupt when Trump mentions Sen. Lindsey Graham at South Carolina rally

September 25, 2023 by Alex Nitzberg Leave a Comment

A chorus of boos erupted after former President Donald Trump mentioned GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina during a speech in the senator’s own state on Monday. Trump described the lawmaker as a friend.

Earlier this year at another Trump rally in South Carolina, audience members booed Graham when he appeared at the podium ahead of Trump’s speech. Then later during the same event, Trump mentioned Graham and was met by boos from the audience.

The senator has served since early 2003, and his current term ends in early 2027.

“A big day for President @realDonaldTrump in South Carolina. @AGAlanWilson and Secretary of State Mark Hammond coming on board is great news, followed by consequential and influential state legislators. The Trump team is getting bigger and better every day in SC!” Graham tweeted.

Even Graham’s tweet was met with negative sentiment.

“You got booed relentlessly!! We don’t understand why Trump still supports you, because the majority of us can’t stand you.. you’re not American first, you’re Ukraine first,” one person wrote in response to Graham’s post.

“Trump would be smart if he dumped you. RINO,” someone else wrote.

Graham has claimed that it is “imperative” for the U.S. to continue aiding Ukraine’s military.

“Those who call for the end of U.S. assistance to Ukraine are simply setting the stage for even bigger wars in the future. That will lead to more future expenses and even more loss of life in Europe and possibly one day, Taiwan,” Graham has claimed.

Poll: Ron DeSantis Falls to Third Place in South Carolina

September 21, 2023 by Hannah Bleau Leave a Comment

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is in a distant third place in the early primary state of South Carolina, a September Fox News poll revealed.

As has been consistent with virtually all other surveys, former President Donald Trump stands as the dominant frontrunner in the Republican primary race with 46 percent. That puts him 28 points ahead of former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who maintained her second place status, jumping four points since July to 18 percent support.

In July’s survey, DeSantis came in third place with 13 percent support. At that time, he was just one point behind Haley. But now, Haley’s lead has expanded, as she leads him by eight points, with DeSantis falling to ten percent support. South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott trails DeSantis by just one point, with nine percent support.

Most South Carolina primary voters, 58 percent, said they would “definitely” support Trump, but only 33 percent said the same of DeSantis.

Even absent of Trump, DeSantis fails to emerge as the favorite second candidate of choice. When asked to choose their second choice candidate if Trump were not in the race, 27 percent choose Haley, followed by DeSantis (22 percent), Scott (14 percent), and anti-woke businessmen Vivek Ramaswamy (11 percent).

📊 2024 South Carolina GOP Primary

Trump 46% (-2)
Haley 18% (+4)
DeSantis 10% (-3)
Scott 9% (-1)
Ramaswamy 5% (+2)
Christie 4% (+2)
Pence 4% (=)
Hutchinson 1% (=)
Hurd 1% (+1)

The survey was taken September 14-18, among 809 likely GOP primary voters and has a +/- 3.5 percent margin of error.

It comes as DeSantis fails to build momentum, even in the first three states, despite identifying that as his strategy months ago, in July. His failure to do so has even confused potential donors, including Republican megadonor Ken Griffin, who said, “I don’t know his strategy. It’s not clear to me what voter base he is intending to appeal to.”

South Carolina is not the only state where DeSantis is struggling, as a recent CNN New Hampshire Primary Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center, found the presidential hopeful collapsing to fifth place in the Granite State.

Military mocked after asking if anyone has seen its missing F-35 stealth jet valued over $78 million

September 18, 2023 by Joseph MacKinnon Leave a Comment

A U.S. military base is asking nearby residents to give them a ring if they happen to find the Marine Corps’ missing F-35B Lightning II.

Officials’ apparent inability to track down the stealth aircraft has resulted in some lampoonery online, ranging from posting photoshopped camping selfies with the F-35B to invoking the ages-old rule of “finders keepers.”

The missing jet,
one of 353 belonging to the USMC and priced at over $78 million, was “involved in a mishap” on Sunday afternoon, according to Joint Base Charleston.

While the pilot thankfully managed to eject and is now in stable condition, it’s unclear where his jet from the Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing ended up.

“Based on the jet’s last known position and in coordination with the FAA, we are focusing our attention north of JB Charleston, around Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion,” JBC
indicated in a statement on X.

The search has so far been focused on
Lake Moultrie, which spans 60,000 acres and has a maximum depth of 75.47 feet.

Jeremy Huggins, a spokesman at JBC,
told the Washington Post the jet’s transponder was not working “for some reason that we haven’t yet determined,” hence the public request for help.

“The aircraft is stealth, so it has different coatings and different designs that make it more difficult than a normal aircraft to detect,” added Huggins.

Newsweek
reported that the jet could travel for hundreds of miles on autopilot, meaning Americans farther afield might similarly play a role in its location.

The Air Force, which is helping the Marine Corps find the runaway vessel, defines a “mishap” as “an unplanned event or series of events that results in damage to DoD property; occupational illness to DoD personnel; injury to on or off-duty DoD military personnel; injury to on-duty DoD civilian personnel; or damage to public or private property, or injury or illness to non-DoD personnel, caused by DoD activities.”

This particular mishap would likely fall under the category of a Class A Mishap, as the aircraft is no doubt destroyed, costing well over the minimum $2,500,000.

An F-35B Lighting II Joint Strike Fighter also crashed in Texas last December. The pilot safely bailed out in that instance as well,
reported USNI News.

In response to JBC’s request for help finding the missing aircraft, one user
wrote, “Finders keepers.”

Another user
tweeted, “Gray with white spots, approx. 24,000 pounds, answers to the name ‘Stealthy.'”

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.)
tweeted, “What are the F-35’s pronouns?”

“Dude, Where’s My F-35?” read one meme, referencing the 2000 Ashton Kutcher film “Dude, Where’s My Car?” about a pair of irresponsible wastoids who lose track of their vehicle after a night of debauchery.

Another user
posted a “Where’s Waldo?” scene incorporating the downed vessel.

A
satirical Facebook Marketplace advertisement for a “Gently used F-35 Fighter” also made its way to X.

JBC has invited anyone who might have seen a smoldering multimillion-dollar wreck north of Charleston to call 843-963-3600.
