Teen Booted from Pokemon Competition for Laughing at Pronoun Question

March 29, 2023 by Paul Bois Leave a Comment

A Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) tournament booted a teenager from the competition after he laughed at a pronoun question from a judge.

According to Makani Tran, he let a nervous laugh when asked about his preferred pronouns by a judge as he tried to come up with a third pronoun to go with he/him.

“On our way over to the stream area, the judge asked us for our preferred pronouns. I said, ‘Um he or him or uh,’ and I paused trying to think of the third pronoun (the third pronoun being his),” he recalled on social media.

“As I just stood there looking stupid, trying to think of the third pronoun, I felt embarrassed because I was failing to think of a simple word. Due to the nerves and me being embarrassed I let out a little laugh just a normal nervous laugh. My response together ended up being, ‘Um he or him or uhhhh haha his,’” Tran continued.

Tran said that later the judge asked him and another player, Alex Schemanske, for their preferred pronouns, which prompted another nervous laugh.

“The little laugh at the end was because I was trying not to be awkward and because I was just stating the exact thing Alex had just stated, and it was kind of silly to me in that scenario,” Tran wrote.

Tran said that the judge called him a “jerk.”

“Okay just wanted to check to be safe. I go by they/them, so don’t be a jerk about it,” the judge reportedly said.

Later, the head judge approached Tran to confront him about the encounter and escorted him off the stage when Tran explained that he laughed out of nerves.

“This is where it really escalated. The head judge tells me that he was sorry and that it sucked but I was disqualified due to pokemons [sic] policy,” he said. “At this point I’m at the verge of tears but I tried my best to keep my composure. I just couldn’t understand what was happening. Was the judge just not listening to anything I had just told him? Was he trying to look at my side of the story at all?”

Tran said he has no problems with using people’s desired pronouns and believes that he was mistreated by the judging team.

“The amount of frustration I felt and still feel is just insane. I have NEVER been treated so unbelievably unfairly and had such an opportunity just taken from me. For something I didn’t even do,” he said. “The judge said that while he believed that I had no bad intentions, it didn’t matter because, at the end of the day, someone was offended and upset.”

“This is ridiculous to me, I was very sympathetic for the judge I had upset and never meant to upset them or anyone and all the head judge cared about was that someone was upset and I caused it. I told him that I was also upset and that he just ruined my entire trip and I wouldn’t get over this for a long time,” Tran added.

According to Fox News, a judge named Will Post later said on Twitter that he agreed with the decision to disqualify Tran.

“Whether you agree/disagree with a ruling, a Pokémon judge should not have to worry about people coming to workplace over a call they were involved with at a Pokémon tournament. If you think doxing people over judge calls is the right play, go home and rethink your life,” Post said in a now-deleted tweet.

“This community complains about the quality of judge calls all the time. I promise no quality judge wants the pressure of breaking even taking a lead role in an event to worry about their safety and professional life following an event if a call goes sour,” he added.

FIFA Denies Indonesia’s Bid to Host U-20 World Cup Over Resistance to Israel’s Participation

March 29, 2023 by Warner Todd Huston Leave a Comment

Soccer’s international governing body, FIFA, has denied Indonesia’s bid to host the Under-20 men’s World Cup due to the predominantly Muslim country’s attacks on Israel and support of the Palestinians.

Any nation that hosts a FIFA tournament must host all FIFA-affiliated teams. But over recent months, Indonesia has been agitating against allowing Israel’s team to enter the country for the Under-20 games, according to ESPN.

Rallies sponsored by radical Muslims waving Palestinian flags have erupted in the country’s capital of Jakarta, demanding that the government pull the welcome mat for Israel’s World Cup team. And threats of violence have been made.

Any supporters thinking of travelling to Bali should think again: Its governor is refusing to allow Israel’s soccer team to play. We will not travel to Bali. https://t.co/ktkYlRiIOJ

— Avi Abraham Benlolo (@AviBenlolo) March 29, 2023

Consequently, FIFA has rescinded Indonesia’s permission to hold the Under-20 tournament.

“FIFA has decided, due to the current circumstances, to remove Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023,” a FIFA statement reads.

“A new host will be announced as soon as possible, with the dates of the tournament currently remaining unchanged. Potential sanctions against the PSSI may also be decided at a later stage.”

Zainudin Amali, deputy Indonesia’s PSSI chief and former sports minister admitted to KompasTV that FIFA canceled the games because Indonesia was not meeting its agreements. “FIFA decided Indonesia didn’t follow through with its earlier commitments while bidding,” Amali said.

While it is good to see FIFA living up to its commitments and criticizing Indonesia for its assault on human rights, this is the same sports organization that approved the radical Muslim-led nation of Qatar to host the World Cup.

NHL Commish Hints League Could End Pride Night Events Amid Growing Number of Opt Outs

March 29, 2023 by Warner Todd Huston Leave a Comment

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman recently noted that the league might begin reevaluating the idea of holding gay pride nights with the increasing number of players and teams opting out either for religious or foreign pressure reasons.

Recently, several players have opted out of wearing gay pride jerseys during gay pride night, and at least three teams joined these players to eschew the jerseys. Two reasons have been offered to explain these actions. First, several teams and players have cited a new law in Russia that outlaws “gay propaganda” and pinpointed the law as worrisome for the safety of their Russia-born players and those players’ family members who are still living in Russia. They fear players being seen in gay pride jerseys could cause Russian authorities to target them. Secondly, players have cited their personal religious beliefs for opting out of wearing gay pride jerseys.

Commissioner Bettman has defended the decision to opt-out. But the growing number of those choosing to do so is forcing the league to face a dilemma, and Bettman noted that the issue is something the NHL “will have to evaluate in the offseason.”

“This is one issue where players for a variety of reasons may not feel comfortable wearing the uniform as a form of endorsement,” Bettman said, according to Fox News.

“But I think that’s become more of a distraction now because the substance of what our teams and we have been doing and stand for is really being pushed to the side for what is a handful of players basically have made personal decisions, and you have to respect that as well,” he added.

To date, three teams have opted out of the gay pride jerseys. First, the Chicago Blackhawks decided not to wear them during the team’s gay pride night out of fear that their three Russian-born players may be put in jeopardy due to the new law in Russia. Previous to that, the Minnesota Wild also opted out of wearing the jersey. And in Jan., the New York Rangers opted out of wearing the gay pride jersey.

Three individual players have also taken a stance on the gay pride jersey. San Jose Sharks goalie James Reimer opted out of wearing the jersey, citing his religious convictions.

In January, Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov also decided not to wear his team’s pride jersey for similar reasons. And Buffalo Sabres player Ilya Lyubushkin decided to opt out this month, but he cited the law in Russia for his action.

REPORT: Male Powerlifting Coach Breaks Women’s Record to Protest ‘Trans Inclusion Policy’

March 29, 2023 by Robert Kraychik Leave a Comment

Avi Silverberg, head coach for Team Canada Powerlifting, “self-identified” as a woman and broke the provincial record in Alberta, Canada, for women’s bench press in the heaviest weight class to protest the growing penetration of men competing in women’s sports via “transgender” policies.

Reduxx, a media outlet describing itself as providing “feminist news and opinion,” reported on Tuesday:

Avi Silverberg, a powerlifting coach who has worked with Team Canada, self-identified as a woman last week to participate in the women’s category at the Heroes Classic Powerlifting Meet held in Lethbridge, Alberta. Silverberg was attempting to highlight the unfair advantage males have when competing in women’s athletics. In participating in the Saturday event, Silverberg unofficially broke the Alberta women’s bench press record for the 84+ kilograms category.

The Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU) announced a gender self-identification policy earlier this year, explicitly allowing any males to participate in women’s competitions on the basis of “gender” alone.

The previous record-holder for bench press in the 84+ kg weight class is Anne Andres, a man described as a “trans identified male.”

“Andres was in the front row and witnessed Silverberg’s demonstration at the Heroes Classic Powerlifting Meet,” Reduxx reported.

The bench press competition was held under the sanction of the Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU). In February, the CPU began allowing men describing themselves as women to compete in women’s powerlifting competitions.

The CPU’s “trans inclusion policy” declared its acceptance of left-wing neologisms and associated concepts such as “cisgender,” “gender expression,” and “gender identity.”

Competitors in CPU-sanctioned events “should be able to participate in the gender with which they identify and not be subject to requirements for disclosure of personal information beyond those required of cisgender athletes,” according to the powerlifting organization’s policy.

Swimmer Riley Gaines: Protecting Women’s Sports from Transgender Radicals is ‘Spiritual Warfare’

March 28, 2023 by Paul Bois Leave a Comment

Riley Gaines, the Kentucky swimmer who tied with transgender athlete Lia Thomas in the women’s 200-meter freestyle event at the NCAA championships, likened the protection of women’s sports to “spiritual warfare.”

Speaking to a crowd of more than 70 people at an event hosted by Turning Point USA (TPUSA), Gaines said the fight has morphed from right vs. wrong to “moral versus evil.”

“What we’re being asked to do is to deny objective truth. It’s to deny the sky is blue, is to say that men and women are the same,” Gaines said. “We’re equal, but we’re not the same … I feel like we’re in this battle of really spiritual warfare. It’s no longer good or bad or right or wrong. This is like moral versus evil.”

— Independent Women’s Forum (@IWF) March 27, 2023

Gaines added that people like her who speak out against the problem are nearly crushed by left-wing activists, citing Pennsylvania Rep. La’Tasha Mayes’ recent speech calling for Gaines to be canceled from speaking at the University of Pittsburgh.

“Someone who is supposed to uphold the law and the Constitution and what America was founded on — which is freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to protest, freedom to organize all of the amazing freedoms that we have in this country — someone who’s supposed to uphold those presented on why I should not be able to use my voice and why it’s so important that I use my voice,” Gaines said. “That’s terrifying.”

When Dylan Mulvaney comes to UPitt, he gets paid $26,000 from school funding. When Riley Gaines comes to UPitt, she gets protested, threatened with violence, and attempted to get the event canceled by students, faculty, and lawmakers.

Something tells me Im doing something right https://t.co/RWqUx8AxgQ

— Riley Gaines (@Riley_Gaines_) March 28, 2023

Throughout her talk, Gaines touched on a range of issues and especially scolded the Biden White House for interpreting Title IX to ban discrimination based on gender identity. She also warned against men pretending to be women in the prison system.

“I’m not saying that every trans individual transitions to win trophies or to get in women’s bathrooms or to get in women’s prisons. I’m not saying that for every trans individual. But do we not see how the system we have in place, people will take advantage of that system?” Gaines said. “We know that we live in a country where there are very deluded people … People will take advantage of the system that we have in place, that the only requirement to be a woman is to say you are a woman.”

In a recent speech at Kentucky University this year, Gaines also warned against the eradication of women.

“If you believe in science, you know there is man and woman,” Gaines said. “To deny that is to deny science, it’s to deny logic, it’s to deny reason and, quite frankly, common sense.”
