Stephen A. Smith rips apart Dem Party for pushing Biden’s re-election — then admits he would vote for a Republican

June 7, 2023 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith admonished the Democratic Party on Tuesday for propping up President Joe Biden’s re-election bid.

“I think there’s an abundance of people who can do better,” Smith declared on Fox News.

“I’m looking at him and I don’t like what I see. I’m not impressed with what I see, and I’ve been very concerned with what I’ve seen, and the fact that he’s going to be 82 years of age at election time,” he continued. “If he were to win the election, and then he’d be in the White House until he’s 86 years old.

“I think in the year 2023 it is utterly embarrassing that the liberal side has him as their best candidate. What does it say about you when that is the best candidate that you can give the left? That is ridiculous!” Smith exclaimed.

The ESPN talking head said his comments were “not a knock against Joe Biden” per se, but rather “an indictment against the Democratic Party.”

Stephen A. Smith EXPLODES on Biden, Democrats: ‘Utterly embarrassing’www.youtube.com

So who will Smith vote for?

Calling himself as a “registered independent,” Smith said he is willing to vote for Chris Christie.

“He’s certainly not a liberal,” Smith said of Christie. “The bottom line is this: I think that he’s competent and, more importantly, he’s going to be talking about issues as opposed to having us distracted with a whole bunch of nonsense that we don’t need to be distracted with as a country. Now, whether he wins or not — I know it’s a long shot.

“But I tell you this much: I’d vote for him before I’d vote for any of the Democratic candidates that I’ve seen,” he admitted.

The comments came on the same day that Christie, the former New Jersey governor, joined the 2024 presidential race. He is a long-shot candidate, but will definitely make an impact and has an outside shot at winning the nomination.

Smith voted for Biden in 2020 and is open to voting for him again if he opposes the winner of the Republican nomination — especially if it is Donald Trump.

Dem political expert explains why Sen. Joe Manchin is a ‘dead man walking’: ‘Nowhere for him to go’

June 5, 2023 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

If Democratic political expert David Axelrod is right, Republicans can expect to flip at least one U.S. Senate seat currently held by a Democrat next November.

According to Axelrod, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is a “dead man walking” — politically speaking, of course.

“I don’t want to be unkind to Sen. Manchin, but he’s kind of dead man walking in West Virginia. There is nowhere for him to go,” Axelrod said Monday on CNN.

The current political landscape in West Virginia supports Axelrod’s thesis, he explained, noting the overwhelming margin by which Donald Trump won the Mountain State in 2020.

“[Manchin has] got a popular Republican governor in a state that Donald Trump carried by almost 40 points. He didn’t win by very much last time. So he knows that he can’t win re-election in that state,” Axelrod explained.

The former campaign manager for Barack Obama was responding to comments that Manchin made over the weekend.

Although he is up for re-election in the Senate, Manchin’s name is being tossed around as a potential third-party candidate in the presidential race.

The New York Times reported last month that No Labels, a bipartisan group focused on political unity, is hoping to field a “unity ticket” for the 2024 presidential election. The person at the top of the list to lead that ticket is Manchin, the newspaper reported.

Over the weekend, Manchin did not rule out running as a third-party candidate.

Moreover, Axelrod is right about Manchin’s re-election hopes, which are worse than bleak. Just last week, a new poll showed that Manchin is trailing Gov. Jim Justice (R) in a hypothetical Senate matchup for the 2024 election by more than 20 points. Justice is popular and has a good chance of winning the Republican primary.

James Comey says Biden ‘has to’ win re-election over Trump, but his narrative trips over inconvenient facts

June 5, 2023 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

Former FBI Director James Comey emphatically endorsed President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign on Sunday.

Speaking with MSNBC host Jen Psaki, Comey argued Biden is the only logical candidate to win the election because he is a politician who unequivocally abides by the law and Constitution.

“It has to be Joe Biden,” declared Comey, a lifelong Republican.

“It has to be somebody committed to the rule of law, committed to the values of this country,” he continued. “And I’m not talking about policy. People can disagree about policy. There are things above those disagreements that all of us should think about the same way. The president must be someone who abides the law and our Constitution. And there’s no one else but Joe Biden.”

James Comey to Jen Psaki: Trump could be wearing ankle bracelet at GOP conventionwww.youtube.com

Comey’s argument fell on deaf ears.

After all, Biden himself became the subject of a classified documents scandal earlier this year when sensitive documents — including some rumored to be so highly classified that they were only supposed to be viewed in a SCIF — in his post-vice presidential office. Then, investigators found more documents at Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, some of which were reportedly from Biden’s tenure in the U.S. Senate.

Retaining classified documents is a direct violation of federal law.

Meanwhile, House Republicans have accused Biden of using his status as vice president to exchange “money for policy decisions.” Those accusations stem from an FBI document that purportedly alleges Biden engaged in a “criminal bribery scheme” as vice president.

And just last month, Biden publicly toyed with the idea of exploiting the Constitution’s 14th Amendment to circumvent Congress to solve the debt ceiling crisis. Most legal scholars believe the legal maneuver is questionable at best and unconstitutional at worst.

Moreover, Biden outright admitted in 2021 that his extension of the pandemic-related eviction moratorium likely did not “pass constitutional muster.” The Supreme Court later intervened and ended it.

Republican governor offers voters a warning about Trump praising Andrew Cuomo to attack Gov. DeSantis: ‘It’s bull***t’

June 1, 2023 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) condemned Donald Trump on Wednesday for praising Democrat Andrew Cuomo’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic to slam Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

What did Trump say?

Last week, Trump claimed Cuomo, as governor of New York, “did better” at handling the pandemic than DeSantis.

The attack, of course, is revisionist history. Not only did DeSantis institute lockdown measures at a later date than most other states, he completely ended pandemic-related restrictions earlier than most states. He was sharply criticized at the time for not taking a heavy-handed approach.

On the other hand, Cuomo instituted strict control measures for long durations, including the nursing home scandal.

What did Sununu say?

Speaking on Fox News Radio, the New Hampshire governor, a moderate Republican, explained the significance of Trump’s attack.

“It’s bull***t,” he said. “That alone should tell you what you’re getting with Donald Trump. … [He] is siding with, of all people, Andrew Cuomo, for this bizarre political attempt to discredit Gov. DeSantis.”

Republicans, then, must seriously consider the implications of supporting a candidate who boosts Democrats because Trump’s attack against DeSantis is “simply nonsense,” according to Sununu.

“It’s really a discredit and a disservice to all the other red states that really handled this the right way,” he said.

“And it says a lot about Donald Trump. That’s what folks have to take home: Donald Trump is not about the Republican Party. He’s not about a strong ticket. He’s not about that ‘R’ — he’s about the ‘D’ in Donald. That’s what comes first with him. And now he’s put Andrew Cuomo over other Republican interests. That’s telling. That’s absolutely telling to me.”

What did DeSantis say?

DeSantis called Trump’s attack “very bizarre,” defended himself, and even went on the offensive.

“First of all, Florida had less excess mortality than California or New York,” DeSantis said last week. “Part of that is because states like California had excess mortality derived from the lockdown policy, which is really, really avoidable mortality.

“But if he thinks Cuomo handled it better, that’s an indication if something like this were to happen again, he would double down and do what he did in March of 2020,” he added.

‘Horrible for Joe Biden’: CNN breaks down new poll showing ‘big warning sign’ for Biden’s re-election hopes

May 26, 2023 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

A new CNN poll shows that a majority of Americans believe President Joe Biden winning re-election would be bad for America.

According to the poll, 66% of Americans — or two-thirds! — believe that Biden winning a second term in the White House would be a “disaster” or “setback” for the nation. Just 33% of respondents said Biden winning re-election would be a “step forward” (27%) or a “triumph” (7%).

“Horrible news, horrible for Joe Biden,” CNN anchor Jake Tapper reacted on his show Thursday.

Biden’s approval rating may explain why such a large number of Americans believe he should not win re-election.

The poll found that just 35% of Americans approve of Biden, while 57% disapprove — a seismic 22-point gap. Those figures are by far the worst for Biden in CNN’s poll since his presidency began in January 2021.

Explaining that Biden’s approval rating is “remarkably low,” CNN political director David Chalian explained on Tapper’s show how the breakdown along political lines shows it is actually worse than it first looks.

“Look at this by party: We looked from December to now. So a little take down among Democrats, 82% to 79% favorable. That’s his hometown team,” Chalian explained.

“But look at this decline among independents from December, 35% favorable in December — he is now down to 26% favorable with independents,” he continued. “Critical voters in the electorate, Jake. That’s a big warning sign.”

Unfortunately for Biden, the CNN poll is not an outlier.

Two weeks ago, an ABC News/Washington Post survey found Biden’s approval to be 20 points under water. It also found, in hypothetical matchups, that Biden would lose to both Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis by sizable margins.

Meanwhile, an NBC News poll last month found that 70% of Americans don’t want Biden to run for re-election.

The onslaught of poor polling is invoking fears among Democrats that Biden will lose re-election — or, even worse for Democrats, lose to Trump in a 2024 rematch.
