The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) is an important law that we have in the United States. Yes, with any type of regulation that either restricts or expands a class of people’s rights, there’s room for abuse, but overall, allowing the differently abled to have a fair shake is not a bad thing. Without digressing into a diatribe against what 2022 America deems is equitable across the spectrum of every population, marginalized or not, the ADA is something to celebrate. And celebrate is exactly what our Department of Justice is doing.
Today, the Department of Justice commemorates the 32nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the preeminent civil rights law requiring equal opportunity for people with disabilities. Recently, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the opioid epidemic have exacted a steep toll on many people with disabilities and shed light on the continued urgency of ADA enforcement.
“The Americans with Disabilities Act embodies a national promise to eliminate discriminatory barriers and support full participation, community integration, independent living and economic self-sufficiency for people with disabilities,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “We will continue using this bedrock civil rights law to eliminate barriers and safeguard the rights of people with disabilities across the country.”
That was nice of them to pump in the normal swampy rhetoric about what’s à la Mode today. No Biden-Harris release wouldn’t be complete if COVID-19 wasn’t invoked. All we’re missing are mentions of President 45, the INSURRECTION, and the so-called “gun violence epidemic”.
The lauding of the ADA continued in bringing up topics such as web accessibility, fair treatment for drug addicts, promoting the access of rideshare to the disabled, and fighting segregation. Something to pay particular attention to is their warning of using artificial intelligence (AI).
Warning About the Risks of Artificial Intelligence in Hiring
The department has also prioritized ensuring that state and local government employers do not use new technologies to discriminate against job applicants or employees with disabilities. In May, the department, partnering closely with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, issued guidance about disability discrimination when employers use artificial intelligence and other software tools, including algorithmic decision-making tools, to make employment decisions.
Much like using AI in hiring practices, the DOJ would shy away from using AI to trend crime statistics and leadership in given jurisdictions. What would AI suggest to a Biden-Harris administration if AI were used to make decisions that remove the human element from the process? I think AI would tell most progressive democrats it’s time for them to pack their bags. AI would be a headshot to most leftist policies and ideas.
What was absent in this salute to the ADA was the DOJ seeking to protect the interests of the differently abled that wish to be able to use the AR platform. No, there’s not a mention of the importance of expanding access to the Second Amendment to those in need. They should be lauding both the advent and use of pistol braces. Garland, the DOJ, the ATF, et.al. seem to be quite mum on the topic of protecting the interests of all persons’ access to not just jobs and toilets, but rights enumerated by the Constitution. Instead they have vilified the devices, seeking their abolishment from America.
We all know that the progressive machine is fighting against any and all deregulation when it comes to the Second Amendment. This just happens to be a good time to point out the hypocrisy of anti-civil rights members of the anti-freedom caucus, and remind everyone the “justice” portion of their Department of Justice, only matters when it’s for their cause celebs.
