Biden State Dept. To Spend $12 Million Teaching Climate Change, Gender Studies in Iraq

June 4, 2023 by Ben Kew Leave a Comment

The Biden administration will spend as much as $12 million educating the Iraqi population on combating climate change and promoting “gender diversity” as part of an initiative to promote democracy in the troubled Middle Eastern nation.

Last month, the department released a grant proposal of up to $4 million each to three Iraqi universities. Recipients are expected to establish “fields of study, course offerings, and/or majors” emphasizing “gender issues” and climate change impact “adaptation and mitigation,” according to the grant proposal.

Meanwhile, the department is also encouraging Iraqi universities to create student recruitment programs, focusing on those interested in advancing “greenhouse gas reduction” and other climate change-related areas of study.

For a program to qualify, it must also adhere to “progressive curricula” and contribute to enhancing the student body’s diversity at American-style Iraqi higher education institutions. It also stipulates that 40 percent of all funds awarded must directly benefit Iraqi women, although that does not necessarily include biological women.

“[The grant] requires that all activities fully address intersectional gender and inclusion considerations, ensuring that individuals of all genders and diverse backgrounds benefit from support to the extent feasible, and that gender and inclusion awareness is a built-in component of project activities,” it reads, adding that this applies to both “gender” and “gender identity.”

The posting also emphasizes a requirement for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to be implemented within Iraqi universities, identifying them as necessary for access to funding.

Under the “equity” category, the department highlights the importance of equity for “transgender and queer” Iraqis. In assessing grant applications, potential recipients will be assessed on their capacity to integrate “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility” into their staffing structures.

The grant was first reported by The Washington Free Beacon, which asked the department for comment on how the grants will advance America’s interest in the region.

“We know that more inclusive governments are better equipped to address global challenges,” a department spokesperson told the outlet. “Diversity, equity, and inclusion are not only a matter of human rights and fairness, but when present together promote stability, prosperity, and security.”

Iraq is not the only Middle Eastern country where the Biden administration is investing in progressive dogmas usually confined to the liberal West. Last month, the State Department offered a $500,000 grant to help teach English in Pakistan, in part by providing “intensive professional development courses for Pakistani transgender youth.”

“In this specific grant, the Department provides funding for English-language learning, an integral skill that helps unlock educational and employability opportunities, for marginalized communities, in this case transgender youth,” a State Department spokesperson said at the time.

In 2021, a government report by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction found that the U.S. had invested more than $787.4 million in the pursuit of gender equality in Afghanistan, achieving disappointing results. Efforts made by the U.S. Agency for International Development to train women to join anti-Taliban militias led to unrest among the almost exclusively male ranks. The report highlighted how, notwithstanding U.S. endeavors, there was a noticeable decrease in the political engagement of women from 2004 to 2019.

Moore to the Point – Memorial Day

May 26, 2023 by Susie Moore Leave a Comment

Years ago, I attended a Bar Association event where the featured speaker was the Chief Prosecutor of the Iraqi tribunal that tried Saddam Hussein for war crimes. At the time, I was impressed by his emphasis on and appreciation for the Rule of Law – a concept he tied to the Code of Hammurabi, which dates back to 1750 BC and came from what we now know as Iraq.

A lot has transpired in the 11 years since I heard that speech, but I thought it appropriate to share some of what I wrote at the time:

Listening to the speakers that day, it slowly dawned on me just how much we, carefully ensconced in our well-established constitutional republic, truly do take for granted.  Freedom, jealously guarded by the Rule of Law, is all we’ve ever known.

As I reflect on [their] comments this Memorial Day, they remind me just how very precious our freedom is. We have our fair share of worries — economic recession, upcoming elections, for instance — but we live lives blessedly free from fear of true tyranny.  Most of us are celebrating this holiday weekend with cookouts and ballgames and pool time with friends and family. How fortunate we are, and how thankful we should be that this amazing, wonderful, FREE nation of ours is kept safe by the sacrifices of those courageous men and women who’ve chosen to serve and to fight for it. God bless them. God bless the fallen. And God bless the USA.

Joe Biden Once Again Falsely Claims Son Beau Died in Iraq War

May 22, 2023 by Bob Hoge Leave a Comment

According to the NY Post, President Joe Biden once again falsely described the circumstances behind his son Beau’s death, claiming that his firstborn died during the Iraq war when in fact the 46-year-old succumbed to brain cancer in 2015 at the Walter Reed military hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.

Biden has said in the past that he decided not to run for president in 2016 because of Beau’s passing.

While Beau’s death certainly must have been traumatic for Biden—he’d already lost a daughter and wife in a 1972 car accident that left sons Beau and Hunter injured—it does not excuse Joe’s continued mangling of the truth. The Post reports the president made an informal visit with US Marines at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in Japan last Thursday and flatly said something that was not true:

My son was a major in the US Army. We lost him in Iraq.

The outlet was able to obtain a video of the moment. Watch:

As the newspaper noted, the misinformation might have gone unreported because “the White House press office did not put out an official transcript, almost allowing the error to escape public notice.” Meanwhile, reporters were kept far enough away that they couldn’t hear his tall tales.

It’s far from the first time that Biden has made this jarring claim. As RedState‘s Bonchie reported, the befuddled leader of the free world made a similar comment in October 2022 when he was delivering a speech at an event concerning national monuments. Beau “lost his life in Iraq,” he said.

Just imagine — I mean it sincerely, I say this as a father of a man who won the Bronze Star, the Conspicuous Service Medal, and lost his life in Iraq — Imagine the courage, the daring, and the genuine sacrifice, genuine sacrifice they all made.

President @JoeBiden incorrectly said his late son Beau “lost his life in Iraq.” https://t.co/oZ9GRyRjcI pic.twitter.com/8OvjbQgUaT

— Washington Examiner (@dcexaminer) October 12, 2022

In November of 2022, he doubled down, claiming during a speech in South Florida regarding inflation that “I’m thinking about Iraq because that’s where my son died.” Later during the event he correctly stated the cause of death, cancer, but appeared to blame toxic burn pits that Beau may have been exposed to during his Iraq service for the disease.

There are two explanations for the president’s repeated use of false information. One is that he is so addled and dementia-ridden that he really does get confused by the facts around pivotal events in his family’s life. If this is the case, then the man has no business being president of the United States. We cannot hand the keys to the nuclear codes to a man who cannot recall how his beloved son died.

A second explanation is that he is aware that he is not telling the truth—but can’t stop himself. He knows people will sympathize with him, and as we know, a newsworthy moment gets headline treatment, but a correction gets buried on page 16. If you repeat something often enough, a certain amount of people will believe it regardless of its veracity. Could he be that Machiavellian?

If there is one thing I sympathize about with Joe Biden, it’s that he lost a wife, a daughter, and a son to untimely deaths. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, and can’t imagine the pain.

That being said, his repeated use of this fable about Beau’s death is deeply problematic because either he’s so calculating that he’s willing to use his late son as a political weapon, or he’s too senile to know basic facts—in which case he is clearly unfit for the presidency.
