Sen. Kennedy Wrecks Mayorkas Again in Epic Fashion on Border and Assault Weapons

As I reported on Tuesday, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) just decimated the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during a grilling before the Senate Judiciary Committee when Kennedy asked him if he supported banning assault weapons. When Mayorkas said yes, he did support such a ban, that’s when Kennedy sprang the trap. Then: Could Mayorkas define what an assault weapon was? Kennedy asked.

That, of course, left Mayorkas stammering and without an answer. The best he could come up with was to mention an AK-47, but he had no idea how to define it. To be fair, no Democrat does because it’s essentially a made-up term that means “the guns I don’t like right now.” So perhaps it’s understandable why he can’t find a definition for such a feckless term.

However, that wasn’t the only issue Kennedy pursued. He also destroyed Mayorkas when it came to the border. This is classic Kennedy.

“You really should try to do a better job of answering the questions,” he told Mayorkas. We have had the most people entering illegally in the history of ever, Kennedy said. We have had the most “gotaways” in the history of ever.

Mayorkas claimed that their effort was delivering precisely the result you seek at which point Kennedy just nuked him from outer space.

“Did you just parachute in from another planet? Because you’re the only person in the Milky Way who believes that we’re not having massive, massive illegal immigration into America!” You have to watch what people do and not what they say, Kennedy said, “and everything else is just cottage cheese.”

Now, you might think that Mayorkas, knowing that he was going to have to face Kennedy again on Wednesday, might prepare somewhat better for the next round.

But when Kennedy gave him another chance on Wednesday to answer that question about the definition of an assault weapon, Mayorkas was yet again at sea.

“Can you give me an example,” Kennedy asked. Mayorkas claimed he had told him an AK-47, but he still couldn’t give a definition. So Kennedy tried to plumb what was objectionable about an AK-47 to Mayorkas. Naturally, Mayorkas couldn’t give a real reason. He seemed to look at prepared notes saying he wasn’t going to “take an examination” as to “questions I’ve already answered to the best of my ability.” But he didn’t answer the question. Now he could have studied overnight and tried to come up with some sort of answer. Instead, that’s what he pulled out

Mayorkas claimed it was “self-evident why an AK-47 should be banned.” “Except you can’t explain what one is,” Kennedy said, finishing him off.

That in a nutshell is the Biden team’s incompetence all wrapped up in Mayrokas’ responses.

But Kennedy had one final moment for Mayorkas as Kennedy had to head out when Mayorkas was still testifying. He caught him by surprise when he clapped him on the shoulder and shook his hand, and Mayorkas looked like he was afraid Kennedy was going to do him in a little more.

That had this kind of feel to it.

House Republicans have filed Articles of Impeachment against Mayorkas. They don’t have the Senate to be able to take him out but that doesn’t necessarily stop them from moving ahead with it anyway.

Fire at Southern Border Kills at Least 39 Migrants, Injures 29

There’s more tragedy at the southern border Tuesday as the Mexican Government’s National Migration Institute (INM) reported that at least 39 people are dead and 29 injured after a raging fire broke out at a migrant facility in the city of Ciudad Juarez.

From Reuters:

In a statement, the INM said there were 68 adult men from Central and South America staying at the facility and that 29 of them were also injured in the blaze and taken to four hospitals in the area.

A Reuters witness saw bodies lined up in body bags and confirmed that the fire, whose origins are under investigation, had been extinguished. Many of the migrants at the facility were Venezuelan, according to the Reuters witness.

NPR meanwhile reported that there are bodies outside the facility:

Images published by the local Diario de Juarez newspaper and shared by the Associated Press showed bodies under silver sheets, ambulances and firefighters outside the facility, which is located just across the border from El Paso, Texas.

The fire broke out just before 10 pm Monday evening. Most of the victims are believed to be Venezuelan.

The sad death toll is unfortunately part of a pattern under the Biden administration; as I’ve written, it’s a human tragedy at the Rio Grande as migrants are dying in droves.

The media often reports on the increasing number of illegal aliens and the hundreds of thousands of “gotaways” entering our country at the southern border under President Joe Biden’s watch, but what doesn’t always get as much attention is the number of people dying as they attempt the perilous trek.

Many get swept away by the powerful currents of the Rio Grande, perish by falling from cliffs along mountain passes or die from dehydration, or by getting lost at sea. Now, sadly, we can add fire to the list of deadly obstacles.

“It’s like a graveyard,” said Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber, who grew up in the area. “I’ve been working on the border for almost four decades and never saw tragedies of this magnitude.”

On Sunday alone, as RedState’s Jennifer Oliver O’Connell reports, two migrants are dead and 14 are in critical condition near Uvalde, Texas after being found in a train car east of the town of Knippa.

In one of the worst cases, which I reported on in September 2022, 53 illegals were found dead in the back of a semi that had been abandoned by the driver so he could go on a meth bender. In another case, 53 illegals were swept away by the Rio Grande, with nine of them drowning.

Meanwhile, Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz admitted to House Homeland Security Committee this month that the U.S. does not even have “operational control” at the southern border.

It’s criminal, what this administration has allowed to happen at our boundary. While Biden and his minions regularly accused former President Donald Trump of cruelty for his border policies, it’s actually Biden’s own disastrous approach that has led to untold misery and lives lost. A situation like this was bound to happen.

More information is coming in regularly, and the death toll could certainly rise in this tragedy.

Biden Mercilessly Mocked for Tweet Claiming Republicans Would Cut Border Funding

Joe Biden is as frustrating a president as you could dream up in a lab as he constantly gives his self-satisfied Joker grin while spewing things that are often incomprehensible and just as often simply flat-out false.

Sunday was no different as he—or should I say some of his staffers who think they’re being sharp-witted—blasted out a tweet that was so ludicrous that the Bumbler in Chief was quickly ratioed into next month. (Ratioed means that the tweet received far more negative comments than it did positive ones.)

If there’s anything that sums up Biden’s failed administration, it’s his maladministration at the southern border, where millions of illegals have slipped through unfettered under his watch, hundreds upon hundreds are dying, and the deadly drug fentanyl is smuggled into our county in unprecedented quantities.

Yet here’s Joe:

It’s almost mind-blowing, just how tone-deaf this post is. He has failed so miserably during his self-created border crisis that as I’ve written one can only come to the logical conclusion that he wants it this way. And yet he thinks by somehow laughably attempting to blame this on the GOP that voters will just forget his pathetic performance.

In his seemingly endless political career, Biden has only visited the border once, and that was in mid-January and only after relentless criticism. He used a photo from that farcical visit in the above tweet.

Criticism was quick, and it was harsh. Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake was especially pointed:

Fox Digital points out how ludicrous it is for Biden to suddenly claim he’s strong on the border, and the GOP is weak:

In December, after nearly two years in office, the president said he hadn’t visited the U.S.-Mexico border because “there are more important things going on.” At the time he had already taken 59 trips to Delaware and stopped for ice cream at least eight times.

Meanwhile, Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz admitted to House Homeland Security Committee this month that the U.S. does not even have “operational control” at the southern border.

And yet Biden thinks this is a time to take a victory lap. Although the Republicans have not yet issued their budget proposal, Joe is claiming that they want to eliminate funding for over 2,000 agents; that is what he’s referring to in this (and previous) Twitter posts. Arizona Republican Representative Andy Biggs wasn’t having it:

Biden has very little to crow about in his failed administration, but the border crisis is one thing he should just keep quiet about. It takes a stunning amount of gall to take to social media to brag about one of your biggest catastrophes.
