Roe v. Wade

Gov. Kristi Noem flips the script on CNN host who uses tragic story of 10-year-old rape victim to corner Noem on South Dakota's pro-life laws

July 4, 2022 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) turned the tables on CNN host Dana Bash Sunday when the journalist attempted to corner Noem over South Dakota’s pro-life laws.

During a segment on “State of the Union,” Bash asked Noem about South Dakota’s pro-life “trigger” laws, which are set to take effect because the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Bash invoked the story of a 10-year-old girl, the victim of child rape, who was forced to travel outside of her home state of Ohio for an abortion because the Buckeye State outlawed abortion after the Supreme Court’s historic decision.

“Will the state of South Dakota going forward force a 10-year-old in that very same situation to have a baby?” Bash asked.

But Noem, sensing the attempted ambush, flipped the script — and Bash agreed with her.

“You know what I think is incredible, Dana, in this tragic story? Because I heard about this last night,” Noem responded. “What’s incredible is that nobody’s talking about the pervert, horrible and deranged individual that raped a 10-year-old.”

“What are we doing about that? What are we doing about those individuals that do this to these children?” the governor added.

“Right,” Bash responded. “I agree with you, I mean, of course. That is an important discussion to have.”

Noem went on to predict that incidents of child abuse will never begin to decrease unless America addresses “those sick individuals that do this to our children.”

“Right. I couldn’t agree more,” Bash said again.

Despite agreeing with Noem, the CNN host still asked her whether the 10-year-old girl should be forced to birth the child.

“Every single life is precious. This tragedy is horrific. I can’t even imagine. I have never had anybody in my family or myself gone through anything like this. I can’t even imagine,” Noem responded. “But, in South Dakota, the law today is that the abortions are illegal, except to save the life of the mother.”

Noem added that she is not “OK” with the young girl being pregnant, saying the story “breaks my heart.”

“I don’t believe a tragic situation should be perpetuated by another tragedy,” Noem said. “And so there’s more that we have got to do to make sure that we really are living a life that says every life is precious, especially innocent lives that have been shattered, like that 10-year-old girl.”

In the end, Noem defended what the Supreme Court ruled about abortion, namely that states should decide for themselves what restrictions should or should not be placed on abortion.

“That situation, the doctor, the family, the individuals closest to that will make the decisions there for that family,” Noem said of the 10-year-old girl. “That’s what’s interesting about the time we live in right now, is every state will have different laws on the books. The decisions will be made by the legislators that are closest to the people. That’s appropriate. It’s the way our Constitution intended.”

PHOTOS – Church Vandalized with Anti-Pro-Life Graffiti: 'We Join in Prayer for Those Who Did This'

July 4, 2022 by Amy Furr Leave a Comment

Police are investigating damage to property at a church in Madison, Wisconsin, that was evidently perpetrated by a pro-abortion group.

“St. Bernard Catholic Church’s front door and signage were damaged by graffiti, which contained ‘anti-pro-life and anti-police’ messages, according to officers,” WMTV reported Saturday.

The messages were scrawled across the front door and entrance in blue spray paint.

Photos showed the graffiti read, “Pro Life My [blurred] Let’s Talk About All The Native Kids You’ve Killed”:

“St. Bernard Parish is saddened over the graffiti on the front of the church. We understand people’s anger over the recent ruling by the Supreme Court, but this does nothing to solve any issues. We join in prayer for those who did this, that the Lord may heal their hearts. An investigation is ongoing with Madison Police,” said Pastor Michael Radowicz.

The United States Supreme Court recently overruled Roe v. Wade, holding that the Constitution does not provide a right to abortion.

The decision returned the issue to the states, Breitbart News reported June 24:

Roe was handed down in 1973 in a 7-2 decision, holding that the U.S. Constitution includes a constitutional right to abortion, despite the fact that abortion is not found in the text, structure, or history of the Constitution, and the nation went more than 180 years without ever noticing it existed. It has been one of the most divisive legal issues in American history.

Following the decision, states may pass any abortion restrictions which voters choose to establish.

Meanwhile, a faith-based center for pregnant women in Colorado was recently vandalized and burned, and the case was being investigated as arson, according to Breitbart News.

Longmont, Colo.: The Life Choices pregnancy resource center was attacked & set on fire early on June 25. The threat “If abortions aren’t safe, neither are you” was written on the damaged building. Per the WMTV report, citizens with more information were asked to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014 or go to p3tips.com.

Law enforcement said anyone with information resulting in an arrest could qualify for a cash reward.

Poll: Roe Decision Will Have 'Net Neutral' Impact on Midterm Voting

July 4, 2022 by Katherine Hamilton Leave a Comment

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade will have a “net neutral” impact on midterm election voting, a new Harvard/Harris poll projected.

Pollsters asked 1,308 registered voters between June 28-29, 2022: “Does the decision make you more likely to vote in the midterms for a Democrat, for a Republican or not affect how you vote in the midterms?” Thirty-six percent said Democrat, 36 percent said Republican, and 29 percent said no effect.

The results are contrary to Democrats’ strategy of drumming up fear before and after the Supreme Court’s decision, in order to stir support for the November elections. A Rasmussen Reports poll released this week similarly shows that a generic Republican candidate holds the same 5-point lead over a generic Democrat candidate as the week before Roe was overturned.

The Harvard/Harris poll shows that 55 percent of voters oppose the Supreme Court’s decision and 45 percent support it. However, when voters were asked who should set abortion law in the United States, the greatest amount of voters said “state legislatures” (44 percent). Only 31 percent believe abortion law should be set by Congress and 25 percent by the Supreme Court, even though the court is not a lawmaking body.

Disapproval of the Supreme Court’s decision is especially notable given that Roe’s overturning does exactly what 44 percent of voters prefer: it sends the issue of abortion laws back to state legislatures. The confusion could be in part because one quarter of Americans mistakenly believe overturning Roe would make abortion illegal nationwide, according to a University of Massachusetts Amherst survey.

Sixty-three percent of voters said the nation’s highest court is still legitimate, compared to 37 percent who said it is not. Fifty-four percent of Democrat respondents said the Court is legitimate and 46 percent said it is illegitimate. Only 24 percent of GOP voters said the court is illegitimate, and 76 percent said it is legitimate.

A majority — 59 percent — of voters said it is wrong for Democrats to call the Supreme Court illegitimate, including 34 percent of Democrat voters, 82 percent of Republicans, and 61 percent of independents. Sixty-six percent of Democrats polled said Democrats’ claim the Supreme Court is illegitimate is “right.”

'I Eat No For Breakfast' — Kamala Harris Defends Abortion Rights as Fundamentally American in Interview with 'Lightyear' Star Keke Palmer

July 4, 2022 by Charlie Spiering Leave a Comment

Vice President Kamala Harris traveled to New Orleans on Saturday for an interview with Pixar’s Lightyear movie star Keke Palmer, speaking primarily about fighting for the right to an abortion.

Harris encouraged abortion supporters to stay active and engaged in politics and not get disillusioned by the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

“Don’t hear, ‘It can’t be done.’ Don’t hear, ‘Nobody like you has done this before,’” she said. “I like to say, ‘I eat no for breakfast.’”

Plamer, who conducted the interview with Harris, voices the character Izzy Hawthorne in the Lightyear movie, a lesbian character who shares a same-sex kiss on screen.

During the interview, Harris spoke about her concern about the Supreme Court ending abortion rights for women, calling it “outrageous on every level.”

“What essentially has happened is the statement has been made that the government has a right to come in your home and tell you, as a woman and as a family, what you should do with your body,” she warned.

Harris participated in the interview as part of ESSENSE Fest of Culture before returning to California for the rest of the Independence Day holiday weekend.

She argued the right to abortion was fundamental to the founding of the United States.

“We have to recognize we’re a nation that was founded on certain principles that are — that are grounded in the concept of freedom and liberty,” she said.

Harris also compared abortion to slavery, recalling the government once tried to “claim ownership over human bodies.”

“We had supposedly evolved from that time and that way of thinking,” she said. “So this is very problematic on so many levels.”

Harris also expressed concern that low-income mothers would miss work if they had to travel to another state to get an abortion.

“We’re looking at the fact that if she works, which she probably does, she’s going to lose time from work, potentially without leave — without paid leave,” she said about pregnant mothers.

The movie Lightyear tanked at the box office, as moviegoers were turned off by the film’s “woke” agenda and the decision to replace voice actor Tim Allen with actor Chris Evans. Harris previously promoted the movie with Palmer and Uzo Abudaba at the Naval Observatory, hosting a screening of the movie with a NASA astronaut.

Harris spoke about the importance of multitasking as vice president but did not mention the migration crisis on the Southern border once.

“For me and for the president, one of the biggest issues that has been treated as maybe a small issue is — is anything that affects children,” she said.

“I think, you know, sometimes in public policy, I think folks think because they’re small people, it’s a small issue. No. If you impact in a positive way the needs of a child, the entire community benefits for generations.”
