Will Biden ‘confiscate’ semi-auto guns? WH provides sketchy answer: ‘We’re going to remove assault weapons’

March 30, 2023 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

The White House refused to say on Wednesday if President Joe Biden would support the confiscation of so-called “assault weapons.”

What is the background?

While running for the 2020 Democratic nomination, Beto O’Rourke went farther than any of his fellow Democrats on gun control, pledging that as president he would oversee the confiscation of some guns.

“Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” O’Rourke said during a primary debate. “We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans any more.”

What did the WH say on Wednesday?

A reporter asked press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre whether Biden supports taking extreme measures to prevent future massacres. Biden supports gun control and an “assault weapons” ban.

“Does the president support not just banning the sale and manufacture of semi-automatic weapons but, further than that, confiscation?” the reporter asked.

Instead of providing a clarifying and moderate response, Jean-Pierre offered a vague answer, one that is open to interpretation and may suggest that Biden would support the confiscation of some guns.

“Let me just be very clear: What we’re talking about — AR-15s, the assault weapons ban — they are weapons of war, and they should not be on the streets across the country in our communities,” she said. “They should not be in schools. They should not be in grocery stores. They should not be in churches.

“That’s what the president believes,” Jean-Pierre continued. “He’s happy to sign that legislation that says, ‘OK, we’re going to remove assault weapons. We’re going to have an assault weapons ban.'”

03/29/23: Press Briefing by Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierrewww.youtube.com

But what does it mean to “remove” “assault weapons”? Unfortunately, the reporter did not follow up and Jean-Pierre did not provide any clarification.

The problem, of course, is that if Biden wants to “remove” “assault weapons” from American society, what will the government do about the tens of millions of “assault weapons” already in the possession of law-abiding citizens? Grandfather in those firearms? That seems unlikely considering the idea behind an “assault weapons” ban is to prevent the ownership of such firearms.

Jean-Pierre actually addressed that issue at Wednesday’s briefing, saying it is “unacceptable” to say that “there’s nothing that we can do” because there are too many firearms in circulation.

White House Press Secretary: Biden Wants Congress to Pass More Gun Control

March 27, 2023 by AWR Hawkins Leave a Comment

White House Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Monday that President Biden wants Congress to pass more gun control after an attacker shot and killed three students at the Nashville-area Covenant School.

Breitbart News noted that Nashville police indicated the attacker was a female armed with multiple firearms.

During her Monday press conference, Pierre referenced the gun control Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) worked with Democrats to secure in the summer of 2022, but stressed that Biden wants Congress to act to pass even more gun control.

She said, “He wants Congress to act because enough is enough.”

Jean-Pierre asked, “How many more children have to be murdered before Republicans in Congress will step up and act to pass the ‘assault weapons’ ban, to close loopholes in our background check system, or to the require the safe storage of guns?”

She added, “We need to do something.”

Breitbart News reported FOX News’ John Roberts’ observation that there were no armed resource officers at the Covenant School when the attack occurred Monday morning.

Ron DeSantis Reacts to Trump’s insults

March 23, 2023 by BlazeTV Staff Leave a Comment

Ron DeSantis hasn’t announced that he’s running for president, but that hasn’t stopped Trump from attacking the Florida governor as if he is.

This is all despite the firestorm Trump is facing from those on the left, who are grasping at every straw to finally get him behind bars.

DeSantis sat down with Piers Morgan at the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee, Florida, yesterday to discuss a potential run and react to the latest commentary coming from the left’s favorite boogeyman.

Piers asks DeSantis if he could beat Biden, and DeSantis responds, “I think so.” To which Piers then asks, “So you’re running?”

DeSantis coyly responds, “I didn’t say that.”

Piers then asks DeSantis what his favorite nickname is that Trump has given him: “Ron DeSanctimonious” or “Meatball Ron.”

DeSantis says, “I don’t know how to spell DeSanctimonious, I don’t really know what it means, but you know, I kind of like it. It’s long, it’s got a lot of vowels. I mean, so we’ll go with that.”

He continues, “You can call me whatever you want, as long as you also call me a winner. Because that’s what we’ve been able to do in Florida, is put a lot of points on the board and take the state to the next level.”

According to Dave Rubin, Trump was even workshopping these nicknames by literally bringing a bunch of people together to brainstorm them.

Rubin points out that the nicknames just aren’t working any more. What people really want is competency. And DeSantis has proved that he is incredibly competent.

The world is not even close to being the way it was when Trump was first elected. After Biden’s disastrous few years, it’s in far worse shape, and calling political opponents names like “Little Marco” or “Lyin’ Ted” just doesn’t cut it any more.

People want a free country, not a country divided by childish nicknames.

Reporter issues groveling apology after colleague confronts Jean-Pierre for ‘discrimination’: ‘This is not China’

March 21, 2023 by Chris Enloe Leave a Comment

A reporter personally apologized to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Monday after one of his colleagues accused her of discrimination.

What happened?

Simon Ateba, a correspondent for Today News Africa, began the press briefing by shouting his request that Jean-Pierre call on reporters who, like him, are rarely given an opportunity to ask questions.

“You’ve been discriminating against me and discriminating against some people in the briefing room,” Ateba accused. “I’m saying that this is the U.S. This is not China. This is not Russia.”

“What you are doing, you are making a mockery of the First Amendment,” he also said. “It’s been seven months. You’ve not called on me. You blow off my messages. I’m saying that that’s not right. That’s not right.”

How did the press corps react?

While Jean-Pierre refused to address the substance of Ateba’s concerns, other reporters did her bidding.

Jeff Mason, who works for Reuters, told Ateba to take his “legitimate questions” to Jean-Pierre at another time. Journalist Brian Karem shouted at Ateba to “mind your manners” and stop “impinging on everybody in here.” Karem’s criticism was ironic because he made headlines in 2017 for unapologetically shouting at then-press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

When the question-and-answer portion of the briefing finally began, Associated Press reporter Zeke Miller issued a groveling apology to Jean-Pierre.

“I just want to express our apologies in the press corps to the folks watching at home for the display we saw earlier,” Miller told Jean-Pierre.

“Our responsibility is to them. We’re here to ask questions on their behalf, to hold their government accountable because they can’t all be here. You know, this isn’t about us,” he added.

The press secretary thanked Miller for his apology and claimed Americans “appreciate” it and the “important message” it sends.

“I appreciate that,” she said. “I think the American people appreciate that because that is an important message to send to all of them who are watching.”

White House Press Conference Descends into Chaos After Reporter Confronts Karine Jean-Pierre

March 20, 2023 by Kristina Wong Leave a Comment

The White House daily press conference descended into chaos after an African reporter confronted White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for not calling on him to ask a question for what he claimed was seven months.

Simon Ateba, White House correspondent for Today News Africa, confronted Jean-Pierre at the beginning of a press conference where the White House had brought in actors to talk about mental health.

He was scolded by fellow reporters, who apologized to the actors.

However, after the actors left the room, Ateba tried again, and reporters shouted him down.

Jeff Mason, a Reuters correspondent and former White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) president, told Ateba, “If you have grievances, you should bring them to her later. Right now this is for the entire press corps and the press corps is tired of dealing with this.”

Ateba responded that he had sat there in the briefing room for seven months without a question.

Brian Karem, a White House reporter who first gained public attention for an outburst at Trump White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, told Ateba, “Mind your manners when you’re in here.”

“If you have a problem you bring it up afterwards, but you are impinging on everybody in here who is only trying to do their job,” he said.

Associated Press correspondent Zeke Miller, also a former WHCA president, apologized to Jean-Pierre for the disruption.

“I just want to express our apologies from the press corps to the folks watching at home for the display you saw earlier. Our responsibility is to them,” he said.

After the press conference, current WHCA president Tamara Keith sent a memo to WHCA members saying the “extreme breakdown of decorum…created a hostile work environment for everyone in that room.”

Ateba slammed his fellow colleagues for rebuking him.

He tweeted, “Instead of standing for me, @whca @tamarakeithNPR of @NPR attacks me in letter to her WHCA members.”

He posted a screenshot of her email, which said the “extreme breakdown of decorum” created a “hostile work environment.”

Ateba also slammed the Associated Press’s Zeke Miller.

“He believes he’s better than me. But he’s not. He apologized to @PressSec Karine Jean-Pierre today for discriminating against me for seven months,” Ateba tweeted.

“In the past 7 months, as I sat behind him, I watched him him ask those questions at every press briefing, he became entitled, believing that he’s better than those who get no questions. This is insane!” Ateba wrote.

This @WhiteHouse Correspondent @ZekeJMiller for @AP is a disgrace to the First Amendment and journalism. He believes he’s better than me. But he’s not. — Simon Ateba (@simonateba) March 20, 2023

Ateba tweeted that he would appear on Fox News’s Tucker Carlson Tonight to share what happened.
